    It's an "ok" card if you ignore the previous gen price/performance. If it was 12GB with slightly better memory bandwidth, it would be borderline good.
    Only worth thinking about if you're upgrading from a 2060 class (or below).

    • @danielcobia7818
      @danielcobia7818 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Even then (for the 2060 and below comment) you might want to avoid this card as there are still plenty of PCI-e Gen 3 setups out there that have legroom but might be chocked up by the 8X lanes (vs 16X standard) as it would drop it back to that gen but still only have 8 lanes of bandwidth. 5800X3D is still a great gaming chip but only has PCI-e Gen 3 available. Same goes for the 4060 Ti.
      I'd say, it "might" be a tiny bit interesting if you're/ve:
      1) Bought into the NVIDIA software and love the exclusive features.
      2) Are building a completely new system
      Even with those considerations the 6700 XT looks like the better buy IMO.

    I have a 3090 and I have a rule about graphics cards, I have to wait at least one generation before upgrading so I'll wait for the 50 generation or the AMD equivalent. The main issue with this 4000 series isn't the just price/performance,it's that the introduction of the RTX 4070Ti which takes place right where the
    RTX 4070 normally would be,thus making every card down the stack a lower end product with a higher number and price tag. Now,you can say names are just arbitrary,but they aren't if you price the products by their names and not their performance tiers and specs.
    this in turn makes the RTX 4060 the RTX 4050,by specs and performance. the RTX 4060 we should've gotten costs 400$ and is the RTX 4060Ti,which in itself is
    marketed as the RTX 4070 and goes for 600$. the 4070Ti is what should've been just the regular RTX 4070,and they could've never managed to get away with selling it for the absurd price of 800$,so first they tried calling it the "4080 12GB" but that didn't work out and they ended up changing it,but still fucking us over just the same.
    Also,all cards have a crippling amounts of VRAM.
    Imagine if Toyota took the 2024 Yaris,up it's price to match the 2023 Corolla,and called it a Corolla although it's the same size
    as a Yaris,then change the name of the Corolla to Camry,and price it like a Camry although it's just a Corolla inside and out,then make the real actual Toyota Camry
    The "Camry Premium" or something and price it almost twice what it was the previous year. That's the 4070Ti situation.
    This is exactly what Nvidia is somehow getting away with and it's mind boggling.

    I'm not an experienced PC player so someone explain this: What is the significant difference between playing high resolution "low" settings vs. low resolution "high" settings? Sharper image with worse textures, or better textures with blurrier image? How do they not cancel each other out?

    • @flameshana9
      @flameshana9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Textures make a huge difference. Sharpness can be somewhat subjective, especially if there's good anti-aliasing involved. So for example a game with clean lines (anime, cartoon and such) the lines look fine if upscaled properly, but textures must be set to high otherwise everything looks flat, washed out and empty.
      Resolution is for the edges, textures is for the detail of the objects. Like bricks for example. Low res looks a bit blurry but still like bricks. Low textures looks like a red blob.
      For examples of what low res textures are like watch a Nintendo 64 game played at 4k. Nice sharp edges but horrible blobs of colors painted over every wall and surface. Then try watching a modern detailed game like Cyberpunk or something and lower the video res to 720, then 480 then 360. Proper upscaling can take that lower res image and blow it back up pretty accurately, so for example watch for a while at 480 then switch to 720.
      I hope that makes sense.

    On a brighter note the 2nd hand market is now full of 220$-250$ both 3060 and 3060ti's, I can only hope DLSS 4 is crazy good, because the 4060 seems like a good sub 200$ option for late 2024 already.

    Depends on the price in your area. With me its around the 3060 price. But to be honest I would just get a 3060 ti. Which this one doesn't beat and the 3060 ti is only a bit more money.

  • @wanggaard
    @wanggaard ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm having trouble making sense of the upgrade from a 3060 to a 4060. That sounds like a waste of money from your review. I understand you have a non-Ti variant, but the power increase for this generation sounds almost negligible in the 4060s. I understand people that need max power selling a 3090 or 3080 to get the latest, but I would expect budget minded people to be more frugal. Great channel BTW.

    Yeah, all the coverage I've seen is very hostile toward this card. The recommendation I've seen everywhere is to get the 6700XT or 6750XT instead. It's the same price or cheaper with the recent price drops and it will match or beat it nearly across the board. The only exception being heavily raytraced titles.

    The only way this card could have appealed over RTX 3060/ Ti was if NVIDIA had something equivalent to AFMF in its DLSS FG solution, i.e frame genaration at driver level instead of depending on game devs to implement it.

    You need to stop saying the 12 pin connector on 4000 series is "proprietary" it is NOT. It is a part of the ATX 3.0 standard its just at this time Nvidia is the only ones who have chosen to implement it.

      Thing is ,the most honest comparison would be rtx 4060( since it uses the xx50 card) vs rtx 3050.
      You get 160% raster performance increase
      While paying 125% msrp.( 300$ vs 250$)
      That being said . If you can get an rtx 4060 for 250 or less. It would be a great price/performance ratio

    Is the 4060 or even the 3060 is enough to handle ultrawide 1440p 21:9 aspect gaming sim racing games mostly like automobilista 2 and 2023 Forza motorsport at least at 60fps (more, would be great) at the highest setting.
    Or should I pass and aim higher ?

    I have two cards in front of me: 3060 and 4060. Consider the same price or a difference of 1000 pounds more expensive on 4060 so
    I buy a 4060 because its performance is better and because of dlss 3. or buy a 3060 but it has lower performance but it has a higher vram.
    Because the topic is confusing, to be honest
    The most important thing is that this 4060 runs on a board like the B450 Pro Teuf Gaming and a Ryzen 5 4650G processor, or will it remain in a huge bottleneck crash my experince gaming ?
