    One other advantage is there's less fumes. Also you don't get the reemer in the set - it's an extra!

    Good video James. Thanks for taking the time to film it. Whilst I haven't made the jump to Press another big advantage is you can press when there's some water in the pipe. Can be a big advantage and a time saver in certain situations. Thanks again, buddy. 👍🏻

    Finally a Plumber who see and talk about cost of labour, flux, solder etc.. I use press since 2000 in my home ( Hungary), Not new for me, we mostly use MLCP press as its much cheaper then copper and faster. Still can't believe that UK plumbers still talking about o ring etc.. We use them since 80s So far the good branded like Geberit and Xpress not failed me. Way overlast solder fitting only due to fact noone flush the flux which cause pinhole 😂 Good video 👌

      Pinholes never seem to happen here in the UK. My theory is that the hard water protects the pipes.

      Wondering how much the internal diameter is reducer by with MLCP fittings? Looks similar to pish fit in that sense.

    I have been lucky to be able to borrow a press fit tool from someone for my self build. I think a key thing you missed is the cost of the tool for a DIY person. I planned to buy one and sell it when i was finished so the fact I could borrow one was a big bonus. I have been buying my fittings at Toolstation and local merchants where I have an account they were WAY more expensive than you suggest in your video., more like £2 for an elbow. That said while I can solder fittings I am 10X faster and safer with pressfit. Your point on being able to remove them is also very important. I had an issue in a cupboard where I had to lower the hight several pipes had been installed at and it got very tight. I manged to remove a fitting from a pipe by being VERY careful with a multitool cutting into the fitting just enough to open it and remove it without damaging the pipe it was crimped to.

    I get the appeal, but the one thing you don’t talk about is the EPDM in the fittings, and it as a nutrient for bacteria. No issue on rads obviously, but as an AP in healthcare, both our technical guidance and our AE’s (Water) do not recommend on our domestic water fittings.
    Worth chatting about?

    @plumberparts have seen a similar tool (Milwakee) used by another YT, however, he marks the pipework with a black marker on a dry fit. That way you can see any movement prior to press fit as opposed to marking post crimping.

    What about ageing? Compression and olive for ever haven’t seen a failed one yet when done properly first time, solder a good while although solder sometimes appears to fatigue after years. These new ones have soft seals of some type - wonder how they age - seals - didn’t bode well on the space Shuttle and are not doing well on Boeings Starliner.
    Endfeed still look the best.

    These are pretty cool tech. Very neat and handy, but not too reliable and it's a little too specialized. But it's good. Some plumbers wouldn't be plumbers because they don't like the other techniques.
    Press fit is a 1/10mm accuracy thing, there's a pressure curve, the materials need to be right, the pressure and diameter needs to be exact, and the press needs to be held clamped until the material settles... If you don't have the correct materials you can't botch a fix. It's basically a pro tool.

    • @marknorris5529
      @marknorris5529 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi if your working on commercial premises and contract work you will need to get the tool calibrated one a year which costs approx £90 a year depending on your tool manufactuer. However if you buy a tool from a Chinese Tool importer and they stop trading how does that tool get serviced.

    My only problem with the alpha press fittings is that if people don't clean/ deburr the outside of the pipe property you risk damaging / slicing the rubber "o" ring ,which may leak in the near future . A guy on TH-cam did a test where he removed the o-rings and still got a watertight seal. It was only when the pipe was moved around a lot that it started to leak. Suggesting the o-ring is just a backup but how realistic the test was I don't know.

    Fortunately I've used this equipment for many years in a commercial environment.the one thing I will stress is the marking of the fittings try to make sure a v is drawn from the end of the pipe towards the fittings reason being if there is ever a failure the company that has supplied the parts will cross cut to make sure it's been installed correctly if it hasn't then an insurance policy will become null and void thus meaning the installer will be liable for repairs and costs
