It was so emotional to see u dismantle your betta rack ....as you were the one who inspired me to start betta breeding 🥺...hope to see u make a brand new fish room once again that too pretty soon 😃😃.... Btw thnks for the advice of using air stone for water changes ....😃😃I can't wait to see how my first breeding batch grows 😁😁😁😁😁I would start feeding them brine shrimp pretty soon 😋 thnks alot your videos and advices in comments helped me alot 😊
Can you do something like this with 5 gallon tanks? I've seen Cory (Aquarium Co-Op) make something like this forever ago and I've always been curious if I could do the same with a wall full of 5 gallon tanks.
You mentioned looking for nesting containers. Have you looked at the clear containers used in commercial kitchens? They are square come in different sizes and have measurements printed on them. They are very sturdy and last forever. Amazon has them. Rubbermaid makes them. I'm glad you're doing videos again!
This is super fantastic! I'd like to see what's inside the large container holding outflow water. Do you recycle it there ang pump clean and heated water back to the jars? I also have 50 3.5L jars and impossible to put water heater in each 😁
Brilliant design. I hope you sell your house soon, and can buy a home with a perfect location for your next fish room. I can't wait to watch the videos you make when you start setting up "Fish Room II", the sequel.
girl, i can't tell you how much i love your setups. my fish room was so much of a mess, it still is but i made a big change to it, the last two days ( resting today cause i'm dead lol ) were spent moving stuff around, and re planting/scaping a bunch of tanks, cleaning, ect. had to drain all the tanks ( 40 gallon, 30, 20, two 10s, four 5.5s ) and i added a 26 bow front that i had wasting away in my closet with just a java fern in it lol its SO much better, like i can barely believe its the same tiny space, it looks so much more efficient and big now. its nothing awesome like your room, no special barracks system or anything, but i'm happy with the result, even if its still in progress. the room is shared so its pretty cramped but making it work somehow :P a lot of the plants i had in my other tanks got pretty big ( praise baby jesus for fluval stratum xD ) so i split them up and replanted, and finally made us of my dragon stone / Ouko Stone i bought online a while back. I have a bunch more plants coming in the mail Monday or Tuesday, so i'm excited for those! also got some drift wood from the river near me earlier in the day before starting the fish room and chola wood in my plant order. want to add some neocaridina shrimp to that 26 once the plants grow in a bit more, maybe some chili rasboras and swap around the fish currently in there with others in my other tanks. If i ever get my own space, i will definitely do a betta barracks system like what you've done, certainly a good video for someone like me to have handy, doing them by hand is such a chore, and i'm about to start jarring my koi plakat babies, its somewhere around 150 babies, i still have like 50 male double tails and a couple halfmoons to move haha I honestly really wanna go hard core with breeding, and try aliens, not enough time to do spawns one by one. Sadly the likelihood i'll ever be able to do that is pretty slim. If I was able to get my own trailer, i probably could, the one i'm renting a room in now has water included in the pad rent so its definitely ideal for betta breeding lmao but because this isn't my place, and i don't pay the bills i'm at my limit for tanks. maybe one day i'll be able to upgrade!
I bet it feels really nice to "reset" things! Heck, I'm going to reset my steel rack soon and basically start it fresh. I'm looking forward to it. Congratz on all the koi plakats!! Heck you don't need to burden yourself with more than one spawn at a time if your spawns are that huge : P
@@SimplyBetta oh yes it definitely does! way easier to be motivated to do changes with a better setup. Almost done finally haha, just finishing up bit by bit now. my package showed up early today too, so i got all my plants! was missing a net tho, and they gave me flourish tabs instead of root tabs, and they have copper so don't really want to use them since i plan on getting snails and shrimp, they said they'd send out my missing items Monday tho which is good. i didn't know " tissue culture " plants came in a gel base, it was so gross lmao. I also just jarred 38 males ( gotta get more of my jars out of storage ) And yeah, It's a lot of work, but its rewarding work, and it gets me off my butt since the work i do is digital art here at home. so if i could have the setup to do more, efficiently, i don't think it would be as much of a burden. i'm just glad i didn't get 550+ again like i did with my DT spawn, almost grateful i had to cull so many from spinal deformities from that one lol.. i tend to get around 100-200 average, i don't usually get more or less than that.
I built a similar system with the help of your video. When I turn off my pump I have to deal with “back siphon” from the hoses that put water back in… it looks like your little drip hoses are similar to mine where they sit in the water. Do you have any advice for this?
The fish room cometh! Sometimes change opens new, better opportunities. (Btw, I don’t get the RWBY references in the comments on your more recent videos but glad to see you’ve been given access to a new group of viewers and fans.)
Thanks for posting this great video! Someday I would like to try breeding betta and you have definitely been a great source of knowledge and inspiration!
Thanks for sharing. I hope that when you set it all up, at your new home, that you'll be able to get going full tilt with your breeding program. It is so cool that in addition to getting quality breeding stock from established Betta farms, stores like Petco, and some Mom and Pop stores are now able to sell really beautiful fish at reasonable prices. So even the average fish keeper can purchase their own breeding stock. Looking forward to watching all of your future videos and watch your channel continue to grow and inspire current and future Betta keepers. Best of luck with your move, and happy fishkeeping to all of your viewers.
It's awesome. I watched a few days ago and forgot to comment, so I've been thinking for a few days that something like this would be great for an axolotl breeder too. :)
I want to make a betta rack as well but the only space I would have is in my bedroom. My question is, how loud is the sump? Is there ways that I can silence the sound of running water? Or should is it a bad idea to put it in the bedroom?
I want to rescue a beta but I can’t use a heater because I live in Florida & my tanks are all at 80* almost constantly (we have AC but we don’t go crazy lol) is that ok for a betta? Also, all my fish will eat is tetra-min flakes (I’ve even bought frozen brine shrimp & frozen worms & many other different foods but they won’t touch it!) even my shrimp prefer tetra min to the Shrimp King food I spent $18 & they refused to touch the Hikari shrimp food, either lol Thanks in advance for answering my 2 questions ❤️
Did you medicate your new bettas? I've heard various options as they are jarred at a young age... Then typically kept alone. (Except us crazy fish lovers). I do, but found them sensitive. Thanks
I'd pump like 20 gallons out at a time, nearly the whole bucket. I would add a water conditioner (Brightwell) and fill it back up with proper temperature water and turn it back on!
This is incredibly cool, and a brilliant piece of engineering! I particularly like how you did the catchment pipes, so you could just shut off the valve to a jar and easily lift it right out if you needed access to it. So convenient! Did you have to spend any time fine-tuning the power/flow-rate of the pump to make sure you had enough water pressure all the way up the rack to keep everything flowing, or to avoid putting too *much* water pressure through those valves and airline tubing, or overflowing the catchment PVC pipes? Or was the design super forgiving in terms of the flow-rate and valve settings?
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! When I was looking at pumps I made sure to choose a pump that had enough power to pump water up to the top shelf - pumps have this info, it's called the "head" or something. I chose one that could do 9ft vertical (or so). I chose a good one because I never had a problem with too much water pressure!
Why was the trash can sump a pain? Serious question because I've been planning a rack like yours for a while now and it includes the trash can sump lol. It's definitely the more cost effective choice, but why should I consider not using it specifically?
I wish I would have had a nice custom sump made with proper baffles. My trash can had trays of biological media that the outflow water would pour over which worked alright, but I feel like it would have been more effective with a proper sump. DOn't let me discourage you though, you might have a better design or something
"And I can't have this fish room in it because people arent going to want to but a house with this weird fish room in it. Unless it's one of YOU weirdos." Please I just came here-
There are a lot of designs to think about! One thing I like about individual cells is that they can be easily removed one at a time. But in the end it is up to you and what works best!
I cannot bring the vinegar eels into my country without jumping through alot of governmental hoops is there anyway to culture the eels without a starter pack?

How often are you changing the water in the sump? I plan on making my own betta barracks for my collection of bettas and the sump will probably be made of two storage bins or a basic sump tank.

Hey thanks! I had a few spills as I was getting everything set up initially. I had to tilt the outflow PVC more, patch a few joints I didn't put enough glue on, stuff like that ; )
Great betta rack system and sounds like it was waaay more efficient and easier with water changes. But any reason why you didn't make it an auto water change system? Being in the bathroom you had access to a drain and water = no water changes for you! Maybe for bathroom fishroom 2.0? :P
When I build my room I just didn't know much about auto water changes so I didn't design with it in mind! In my next one.. maybe? I'll have a lame update soon

with grow out racks do you wait until they are old enough to sell? and if they dont sell do you keep them in there?
May I ask what size of uni seal do you use ?

Hey thanks! I had a few spills as I was getting everything set up initially. I had to tilt the outflow PVC more, patch a few joints I didn't put enough glue on, stuff like that ; )
surely you are not using untreated tap water. is your home on a well?
bettalovers...🤩🤩🤩
How often do you syphon the bottom of the container out
Every few days I'd use a turkey baster to remove waste

Did the valves leak?
Nope!
What size containers
This may sound like a newbie question - but what happens to all the female betta that hatch? If that's not an inappropriate question to ask?
They can usually all grow together in the same tank without aggression problems, it's just the males that get removed because they're twerps :)
