Thank you for sharing this vid, step by step! Very helpful! 👍 In the midst of planning a possible trip for '25. Renting a car will definitely give me more exploration freedom, but the (hours of)driving and especially filling up gas in another country, aspect of it all, was kind of giving me anxiety 😄 But again, thanks for all the info!
Cheers! It’s fairly simple now as most gas stations are adapting the Apple Pay system and also more card readers are accepting more options of payments to make it even more convenient 👍
Yes correct some gas stations have two DIESEL handle pumps. One for Trucks and one for cars. The nozzel pipe is also much thicker for the truck gas tanks.
at the N1 stations you still need a PIN number for your credit card. If you don't have a PIN number you need to go inside the building a buy a pre-paid gas card which starts at 5,000 kr and up. Some machines are starting to accept Apply Pay but i noticed that some machines that also have Apple Pay don't work either. OLIS and OB gas stations are the most friendly towards US based cards.
Yes ORKAN also have a similiar issue with US credit cards. Some gast stations across Iceland are upgrading their systems. Also i recommen using Apple Pay if you have an Iphone.
I was in Iceland in 2014 (pre chip for most US cards). When at Orkan, I had to leave the card inserted the whole time, rather than swiping quickly. N1 and other stations were never a problem.
It has a contactless terminal under the pin pad if you see it that's how apple pay works it doesn't mean if they don't say they accept apple pay or have a sticker any where were tap to pay is accepted you can use it just like google pay that's how it is here in Europe every place accepts contactless every card has it unlike the US which was really weird for me

Great video - one of the most helpful on the subject.
I glad it helped out. thinking of making another on this subject.
cheers! glad it helped!
the Truck symbol was above a button. So if you are a truck with a large tank, then you press that button then the Diesel will come out faster

Thanks for sharing. Do you need a Pin for US based credit card to get gas?

Nice work!
thanks
Very helpful
cheers!
Do these have the auto shut off like in the states when the gas is full?
yes
I think they have those in all countries. In Europe anyway.
I found the pumps at Orkan, the pink ones, did not accept my American credit card. Otherwise driving in Iceland was awesome.

Pump shows tap to pay too. Did you try that with your card?
yes both tap to pay and magnetic insert both had the problem. Apparently a few of the gas stations around Iceland are upgrading their systems.
How does Apple Pay work?

Apple Pay is actually one of the solutions in 2024
The pump did ask for a credit card pin?
At the OB it didn’t ask for pin but at N1 yes.
ÓB=Ódýrt Bensín, which means unexpensive gas😅
For US tourist the gas is much more expensive than the states.
