    I just found out all free parking around Hallgrímskirkja has been added into the paid zone. BUT - you can still use this free parking lot near the centre : maps.app.goo.gl/DpymxFdJBqLffzAj6 It's still seems to be free now in September 2024, but for how much longer, that is the question.

    Just returned from Iceland. Never needed cash. Got gas 3 times. No issue using American credit card. Didnt need my pin and only used contactless. About $8.60 gallon. 😮

      Thanks for sharing Anna! Good to hear, maybe they've updated the system. What gas station you used, do you remember? And the prices...I usually cry when pumping gas

      @janiniceland N1 in Kirkjubaejarklaustar, Orkan in Hvolsvollur, and Orkan outside Reykjavik. If I used contactless it didn't prompt for PIN or ask for amount I wanted to preauthorize; I just filled up.

      @janiniceland it was painful filling up. Did some conversion. I paid 315KR per litre in Iceland. Today I got gas near my home in the State of Delaware; costs the equivalent of 116KR per litre ($3.19 gallon).

    Visited last year in November, the gas station payments were always a challenge. Even at Costco we needed help to use our Costco card issued in the US.

      yeah it seems like a common issue here. I really wonder what is causing it as I've also heard from many people, even those from US, they did no experience the same problem at all...hopefully that will be fixed till your next trip to Iceland :)

    Hi Jan, thanks for the video, this is super informative.
    Can you share more details on where is the free parking lot near the Church in Reykjavik that you mentioned?

    • @janiniceland
      @janiniceland  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! thanks! So the parking I'm mentioning in the video is next to Hallgrimskirkja church. But I've been doing some digging and found an article mentioning that at some point this year they were supposed to make it paid parking. Some people still saying it's free, some saying they got fined. I live 5hrs from Reykjavík to go there an check-it out myself haha. But - I have a second option for you which is not far from centre and is still 100% free (for now) : maps.app.goo.gl/DpymxFdJBqLffzAj6

    I would like to know more about the bank and credit rating. If you are opening an account, which bank is the best/easiest to do so with? and how does a credit rating come about? To get a higher score, you need to rent a place to live.

  • @leondoina
    @leondoina 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Please, can you make a video about this, how long it takes to get something from the bank, what are the conditions there. For example, if you want to buy a car, what score do you need to have, or if you need to take out a loan for something specific, what do you need to do?

    • @janiniceland
      @janiniceland  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm sorry, I don't really have info on that - i did take a loan few years back on the car, it was very easy to do, but i don't remember the conditions and so on. It will also vary case from case and the bank and so it's best to contact the bank directly and they will assist you - everyone speaks english there and they're usually quick to respond, too :)

    Hi Jan. Great video. I didn't know about the parking areas in Reykjavik and Akureyri. I'm going to Iceland at the beginning of October and one of the main questions I have is regarding payment methods at campsites (stay and shower) and at public swimming pools. Can I pay by card?

    • @janiniceland
      @janiniceland  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hello and thank you! Great questions! At the campsite you can pay by card or cash (some you can also book online via Parka app). With the showers, I believe here and there you might still need to have some coins.
      And the swimming pools, you can always just use your card.

    I've not used cash in Iceland since I first went there in 2013. You really don't need it.

    I will be traveling to Iceland next January. I am planning to rent an electric car for that trip, are there any charging stations?
    We will be driving from Reykjavik to “Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður” on the south coast via route 1 for 2 nights.

    Hi Jan, with the fuel it is interesting that the Green nozzle you said is always Gas. In the USA Green is always Diesel and Black is usually regular Gas fuel. Also in the USA we just insert our Credit card to pay for fuel and we don't have to select and amount we want to purchase. Sometimes there are limits to how much you can charge at one time but you can always just do another charge right after.
    Hopefully the Waiter and Waitresses are paid well in Iceland since tipping for the locals is not usually done. Here in the USA they depend heavily on tips as they get paid a low base salary.
    Thanks for all of these helpful tips to travel and buy things in Iceland.

      Thank you for sharing Ben! That sounds like a better system you've got in the US. It's pretty simple here in my opinion, but often people struggle, so hopefully this video will help to some of them.
      The restaurants jobs aren't that well paid, but are paid well enough for people not having to depend on tips.
