A few things I notice. Also I play on pluggy so I’m all pvm.
- I’ve tried both conviction from the pally and conviction from infinity. After many hours of testing through many situations, using an infinity merc with maxed fant allows for greater damage output and higher survivability. Especially with the ias on weapons and gear. There’s a small lag time in the conviction aura if your swapping from teleport to conviction whereas with infinity, it’s basically active at all times.
- yes, the conviction that you can get native to the pally is stronger than your level 12 from infinity, but it’s not that much better, especially at the loss of attack speed and overall dps
- I prefer an ebotd zerker over grief for the survivability of the added leech. It makes a huge difference on higher player counts with very similar damage output to grief.
- you HAVE TO HAVE a source of cannot be frozen. Anything else is a sin to efficiency and survival. Gotta rock a raven bud. With a raven and fant, your AR is also really solid around 7k to 10k depending on charms in your inventory. So you can get away with no ignore target defense from grief.
- secondary ring should also be an fcr ring as it allows you to hit one of the lower breakpoints for teleport making your tele not painfully slow
- i also find crescent moon with dracs and the same merc infinity setup to be superior to your setup with grief for aoe and overall clear speed. But still prefer ebotd.
Just some thoughts, but grief isn’t the way to go here and I definitely prefer fant on character versus conviction on character and infinity on merc. You are less of a glass cannon.

Edit: Hi! me from the future; I still dont like loosing out on reapers toll merc. Still using Grief, not happy with crescent moon, but maybe it needs more testing. Still not using raven cause I cant fit it, unless I wanna loss out on good stats like 10 FCR for 30 FCR breakpoint with Arach belt. ALSO!! Wanna try this build? Hm, interesting enough point with the Merc. Just haft to note that you loss out on reapers toll merc then, that is stupid good dmg and deals with physical immunes etc. Also infinity on a merc can be annoying cause the merc runs away, through we teleport often. I could try it out and re-spec with fanta. I dont know how big a dmg loss lvl 12 aura is vs 25, but I guess its not to bad....Im just more worried about loosing my OP reapers toll merc.
I've never really been a fan of ravenfrost. If I really care about it I will use a cham run in the helm. A note on attack rating; With conviction you shoulden't haft to worry about ATR. Also I never think about ITD, its sucks anyway since it dosent work on bosses or rare/elite
If 2nd ring is then my 10 FCR ring for BP, how will I get mana leech if I used raven also? IIRC 10 fcr + dual leech cant spwan? I dont need the life steal much, but mana leech is nice to have on ring.
To not use grief you loss a lot of zeal dmg. I would never use another weapon, its simply to OP grief, there is no choice. Also its nice to make it in a phaseblade so you can always cap max IAS.

There is just one oversight you made that can cost you life on hc. Running conviction on paladin makes you immune to enemy conviction. That's all.

Wow! Just in time. I've been working on my own Auradin recently. I still need to find another Jah to make my second Dream though. But at least I managed to beat Hell on players 1. I might use a different end game weapon though, maybe Destruction? I'm currently using an Act 3 merc just because I think the Auradin is the only build that can use those caster mercs in their fullest potential because of the Conviction Aura.

This is almost identical to my old Dream zealot. Now after 4-5 years of hiatus from D2 I'd try a different rout (not necessarily saying it's better, but definitely a contender). So... even in my old build I used Fortitude, teleporting is cool, but you can also charge, which is poor man's teleport, and giving up so much damage on a primarily melee character that's not Zerker is hard to justify for me personally (although I do see the valid argument, I'm just on the other side). Then I'd switch over to Fanaticism (and use Infinity merc as said before me). Now we suddenly have amazing physical damage, so pursuing Deadly Strike becomes VERY much worthwile. We also have good attackspeed from Fanaticism, so we can settle for a slower weapon and still hit good IAS breakpoint. Here is where Death comes into the picture, it's amazing here, deadly stike with Death + HLW + Gores is around 90% in endgame and with such physical damage it's HUGE. Now Death also has mana leech, so it frees up a ring slot, and also a whopping FIFTY percent crushing blow, which is just ridiculous. Now suddenly the physical damage output just about matches that of a top classic physical zealot, but also has the uber holyshock. Sure no exile and reaper's toll, but you can still deal with every immunity in the game and absolutely WRECK everyhting that's not PI, and also uterrly destroy bosses with the CB from Death. Also note that the merc would be vastly more powerful with this setup in most cases.
Death is such a heavy metal runeword, I have a fascination with it haha

I like your POV, but having conviction aura at 25, and reapers toll is sooo much better. On top of that I dont like death if I could pick grief. Reapers toll is just to good, especially on melee builds. Its a miny amplified damage. Also your own merc does a lot of damage. Anywho, treat yourself (or go test it offline with editor) to a good reapers toll set-up vs infinity and see for yourself :)

Just need to find one more Jah, but what do you think about an 270 ed zod'd eth death cleaver instead of grief? I play on PlugY, so this is kind of a trophy build for myself that I am looking forward to playing. The deadly strike from from the death cleaver, high lords, and goreriders should be pretty nice.

If you can get a grief, get one. Its broken good weapon, also phaseblade IAS is nice and easy to cap and no repair.

So I tried beating the game with a zealer Pali after getting through hell with Javazon and it was extremely tough but I opted to actually level the tesla shock skill and even got a sword with a plus 4 to shock aura, it isn't as OP as shown here but damn it's better than just standard Pali while I'm still farming for the runes

FYI, the way aura damage works.. not many people know this. Radial damage for offensive auras gets applied once for each item with that aura. So, since you have 2 dreams, you're lvl 30 holy shock aura damage will be applied twice. Also for a holy fire setup (hoj/dragon/dragon) the lvl 44 holy fire aura damage will be applied 3 times. This why holy fire auradin will always deal more damage. Enjoy!

Dominic J That is not correct. The aura levels combine to a single active aura which applies its damage once every 2 seconds/50 frames. You can see this happen in game both from the damage animation and the drop in health of the affected mobs. I find the Holy Fire variant of this build to be more fun due to the huge range of the AoE but the Holy Shock version does more damage within its (smaller) radius and piggybacks way more damage onto physical attacks plus requires fewer expensive runes.

@@JohnMHammer yes, it only applies once but with a multiplier of 3 (2x for holy shock) - is what I mean.. And no the avg damage for holy fire is slightly higher. Go put it into a skill tree calculator with both auradins which I have and the numbers make sense... if it was only a single multiplier for lvl 30 / lvl 44 light / holy fire respectively the numbers would be too low to cause the damage you see in game. Especially Holy Fire. It was also confirmed in one of the d2 wikis.

Because I tried this last night just before I wrote that to be sure and I just tried again and I see no evidence for any of that. As far as I can determine THROUGH ACTUAL IN GAME TESTING there is nothing that leads me to think that is correct. Maybe you just got that stuck in your head somehow, there are a lot of misconceptions about mechanics in this game that live on years after they've been disproven.

Oh, this aint MF build at all - If you dont have some wealth already, aka playing online, dont bother with the build. Some builds in Diablo 2 are made for people who are already rich enough, and just want some new build. The build is not good at anything in particular, but it is the best melee build for players 1-5 for sure. But...note melee build, so many other builds, even hammer paladin, is also good.

Instead of going zealot use a beast runeword and morph into werebear. Use phaseblade with 3 shael rune and 3 ber rune. The attack speed is comparable to zeal. The mass Crushing blow smash bosses fast. Since you don't need zeal you have extra skill points for other skills.

Erhm...no :P You can't cast teleport in that form, something Im doing constantly. Its to clunky sadly. Also grief is way more dmg than that form...Its even does AOE. I also don't badly need extra skills.

T-Gods Belt ( stats and imminue lightning plus ligh dmg)
Dual Raven Frost ( added cold damage and AR and dex)
Goblin Toes (25% Crushing blow) or Infernostride (fire dmg and resist)
Dracs gloves (keeps you alive because you do low physical damage you need the leech)
Highlords Ammy (20% ias for breakpoint)
Demon limb + Dragonscale on switch (fire dmg and AR from enchant)
Faith MErc = last speed breakpoint reached
Hit's over 10k dmg with frozen orbs casting at least once every 1-2 zeals
40% cold absorb
95% light resist
85% fire absorb with inferno
Build is also great with Stormlash / Azure Wrath / Voice of Reason / LAwbringer
With 2 dreams the weapon almost doesnt matter, I just love seeing frozen orbs cast
When you change the weapon some of the other equipment changes
Also, I used an Ormus robes with a 15% IAS jewel at one point... hit 12k+ dmg
You can also lose 1 dream either helm / shield and add more survivability if you want, dragonscale is fun
Looks Cool as fuck when fade is cast

Sorry but rift just don't outperform grief. The weapon is just to OP. If I use rift (A great weapon on my riftsin through) I loss out on a lot of zeal dmg, especially single target. The way I build it means you get the best of both worlds.

Hey, thanks for the guide. I have a build similar to yours. I am not sure what to do with my skillers. I am currently using 6 defensive aura skillers to try and boost the synergies for more aoe damage. But I am not sure how much difference it makes to have an extra 6 pts in salvation and resist lightning. Does it give a meaningful boost to my aoe or would I be better served using combat skillers or trying what you did and focus on attack rating and life? Thank you.

Maybe you can find my old comment in this video...or maybe it was on 1 of my other tesladin videos lol. But the difference was not big, so I preferred just getting stats. Attack rating is pointless through to have really...well thats the theory with conviction aura and just 5k attack rating.

Any chance of a Griswold Tesla build of link to one? 8 rainbow facets in armor, 2 shaels 2 whatever’s in weapon. Load up on offensive aura gc and complete the remaining parts for survive. I’ve seen some people mention it in passing, you lose teleport but it should push past this build by a large margin?

I just had an idea. You can use your switch for faster teleporting. With Spirit and arach's you hit the 48 FCR breakpoint easy. Then you don't need the 10 FCR ring. You could even get 75 FCR breakpoint with a 20FCR amulet, though is it worth giving up highlords? You lose half your AOE shock, but that's probably not a big deal while teleporting right?

Its a good idea for longer teleport games or some, but the point of my teleport setup is to not have to rely on switch weapons. Its kinda clunky to switch weapons for teleport, so I much rather like just the 30 FCR.

I usually switch my CTA with a wiz spike after bo. 85% fcr since i don't mind weapon switch. Also, this build really don't need bo under P4. I do the same with barb but i use dual wiz spike.

@@ricardoortega5691 Oh, I read wrong...dumb me :P Erhm so, in Diablo 2 there is this thing called IAS breakpoints, and some weapons are better due to reaching faster attack speed...Phase blade, berserker axe, cryptic axe, tresher and more are popular bases. All paladins should just use grief phase blade for pvm tbh...its boring, but thats the meta...I have a video on IAS breakpoints and also a video on grief.

I could consider it for this one :) In terms of gear its all about playing online and get involved in trading. You will N E V E R, and I do mean NEVER get the gear level I have on most of my videos on the channel solo self-found offline etc. If you dont wanna play online and trade with others, just accept you can't get to finish some builds, unless you we're willing to grind like....1000 hours, maybe more for 1 build. Anyway if you have questions I dont mind answer them.

I know it was a huge turning point for my zeal sorceress when I realized that I should hear her very differently from a typical melee character, going for skills rather than enhanced damage. But maybe it's different for a paladin with the sacrifice synergy available.

I haven't played dII in over 15 years, but if most of the damage is coming from the holy shock aura/synergies then why use grief? Try hitting 4 fps, as you appear to be at 5 fps for your zeal, and maximize deadly strike. What percentage of your damage is coming from physical? My guess is not enough to warrant a grief. Perhaps a beast weapon would be in order with a conviction merc?

Also, if you are using maximum damage charms with a phase blade, you'd be better off using minimum damage charms. Since your maximum is so close to your minimum damage, once they cross minimum damage will also increase your maximum damage, which is better overall efficiency. I think maximizing the lightning damage is the better effort, but minimum is indeed preferable to maximum in this situation.

i hate to be "that guy" but yellow scepter with +2 pally skills, 2os, + conviction, + holy shock, + foh, 20fcr is better or even crescent moon phase blade for the -lighting res are better choices, also reapers toll seems useless cuz of confusion, seems to me that for this particular build max damage is better for the merc, with ebotd war pike, forty and cham'd vgaze, or even destruction gpa + dragon armor since you already have max conviction to deal a lot of fire damage.

Anyhow, we use grief for its very strong zeal dmg...its a hybrid. I understand those items could do more lightning dmg, but its a balance...Good aoe, good zeal dmg...well zeal is also and aoe but yea.

I finished my single player hardcore tesladin a few weeks ago. (ofc its only a holy shock zeal paladin without conviction)
Lets just say that I aint doing it again.
But I did find some Single player GG items along the way (3 os PB and upped runes to um) for crescent moon.
ALso a rare belt with34 hp/20fhr/20+dual resist which is pretty damn good.
I quit playing d2 on bnet quite a while back, changed my fun to SP HC.
NIce build tho, I remember playing it back in the days =)

The build Djuntas is talking about here is named AURADIN.. Not Tesladin. The main components of this build is basics. Dream helmet Dream shield - BUT. Djuntas doesnt know how it works. It does NOT give you a combined lvl of 30 Holy shock. it gives you 2 Seperate lvl 15s which then are stacked on top of the added melee dmg. Not the aura dmg it self. Also the gear that Djuntas uses are really trash for this build. let me explain.
CoH(Chains of honor) is a chest that is a 100% must have on this char. Reason is. You want the resistance and the +2 skills plus the dmg reduction. Djuntas is using a arachnid belt. Which is completly useless on this build since it doesnt scale the Dream shields lvl 15 aura. It only boosts your active auras. in this case Conviction. Conviction is only needed at lvl 12 since all mobs has a specific amount of resistances. That being uber tristham = 150% resistances to all elements which makes them immune. The best belt for this build "Verdungo's Hearty Cord" Or for better sustain of life and attack speed "Nosferatu's Coil" Both of these belts are 900% better for the build than Arachnid nest. After that. The weapon used should be either Beast or Last Wish. The build consists of Zeal dmg which is a melee ability that makes you hit between 2 - 4 times. Depending on if you miss or the mob evades. The best Jewellery you can use is 2 piece Angelic set. Ring + amulet. Which gives you a TON of hit chance. "+144-1188 to Attack Rating (+12 per Character Level) (2 Items)" "20% Damage Taken Goes to Mana
+3 to Light Radius +75 to Life (2 Items) +1 to All Skills (3 Items)"
Djuntas has no idea of what he is doing when he makes builds in Diablo 2. He copy paste them from other build guides and claim it was him who made them.

First of all - I never steal any guides. I always leave links in the description and shout out the author. Dont even try go that way with me. Only few times past 2017 anyway I have done build guides for Diablo 2 where I did not. This tesladin I made on my own, without really looking at specific guides, so no link was given...Its a known build for years, nobody needs a guide for it really, if you been playing diablo 2 for long.
The aura does stack to 30 - You can google this, if you know how to do such a hard task...You can also test this yourself in-game with radius 15 vs 30.
COH is useless - Id rather use Fortitude, it will give more survival than COH anyway (more dmg = more leech), but we need teleport for PvM badly.
We use arach because other belts wont help us, and this makes teleport much better. You dont need verdungo or say good crafted 24 fhr belt.
Beast is beyond useless on any zeal paladin. Make a standard zealot and learn about grief...If I had to use another weapon Id use Death runeword even over Last wish.
You dont know how conviction aura work, again just google it. You can run with 3000 attack rating and still be fine even with a level 5 aura probably. We use a 25 aura because we can, but fanta aura and then infy merc is also an option over reapers toll.

​ Roy Batty Thats just a standard zealot build? You have worse FCR as well, and lack AOE dmg. Yes it hits harder on players 8 (You also got more survival since you can max holy shield), but try it out on players 1-5 dual dream. This tesladin will be slower on players 8 I would think, but not by a lot :)

@@Djuntas You're missing one major thing. Not only is that TeleZealot cheaper and stronger, he cannot be slowed by Holy Freeze or Decrepify so he will always do more DPS which will offset any AOE from the uber expensive Dual Dream.

But mate, that means a weaker shock aura only at level 15 + you loss reapers toll which is a huge damage loss. Granted fanta aura is nice to have back, but your own fanta aura at 25 skil level is better than 13 from infinity as well.
Anyway why not gulli helm? I dont get your helm choice.
Obviously botd is shit, grief will always be better, especially for pvm to avoid repair and faster IAS bp's.
Phoniex is a nice touch, but the firstrom proc ruins it - I tried to like it a lot my self (See my "best zeal paladin guide")
You dont need IAS on belt if use phase blade grief, so just go with a proper belt - Verdungo I dont really care for either.
Ring choices are up to you, but I preffer if you can afford it, rings with good stats on them.

Also BOTD IAS has no point since phase blade is easy life and no repair cost, and poison damage is heavily nerfed in hell - Nova necro only makes it viable due to their -resist curses. Gulli has more stats than just CB, its default the best damage item in the game besides maybe laying of hands or like forty amour? Also +skills matter very little for any melee paladin builds, its better for hammer only really.

A bit late but i'll leave a comment anyway. Firstly i wouldn't really define a javazon or a riftsin as a melee character, as other commentators have pointed out they are ranged by most peoples definition. Tesladins are probably the best melee build in the game. Good mobility, high lighting and physical damage, pretty much impossible to die. I dont think theres any monster in the game which have lighting immunity that cannot be broken by infinity while also being immune to physical damage. Against lighting immunities which cannot be broken by infinity you can easily deal with by putting 1 point into fanaticism and switching to that aura whenever needed. With perfect gear even with only 1 point in it you can reach a lvl 20+ fanaticism aura boosting your own and your mercs physical damage by more than enough. Secondly i believe that Tesladins using holy shock as their main aura rather than conviction are stronger. 3 key differences being you can use Griffons in your head slot and either exile or a 4 socket shield with lighting facets in the off hand slot instead of the 2x dream runewords. Last major difference is your merc using the infinity runeword. Griffons will boost your damage by a lot, the lifetap and defiance aura from exile will make both you and your merc basically unkillable. Another thing that's cool about using griffons is that you will reach the 75% FCR breakpoint using griffons, arachnid belt and spirit from your switch. Teleporting using enigma at this fcr breakpoint will make your character one of the most if not the most mobile melee character build. You could also use wizardspike instead of CTA on your switch for that 125% FCR breakpoint if you wanted to for some reason. With the right equipment and skillers in inventory your holy shock aura can get above lvl 40. So the pros/cons of this version compared to using the double dream version to make it simple. Pros: More lighting damage Exile for defiance aura and lifetap 75% FCR breakpoint without having to change gear. Cons: Dream runeword provides FHR and resistances which you will lack using griffons and exile. You can make up for this with charms though but if you use dream you can get more charms for damage. You are more dependant on your merc for infinity, it's not that big of an issue though since your merc shouldn't die if you use exile which provides lifetap and defiance aura

If you have an inventory full of high runes but cant clear fast, the build just isnt good. Its not even like its a fun playstyle or anything. Just an expensive zealot. You could make an MF cold sorc or hammerdin for about 1 HR worth of gear and clear faster than this.

Mate, this build is among the fastest on players 1, but slows a-bit down on players 5-8. There was an exploit where players could stack the auras an unintended amount of times. You can still run multiple dream or dragon and the couple auras will in fact stack.
