i would kill for them to do a commander aoe grimlock with better articulation, more complex engineering, the missing accessories, and a better dinosaur mode
Subjectively I think SS got off to a really rough start, and really only started to get good around the first Bee movie. That said the ROTB releases of 2023 and on going 86 series have been pretty phenomenal showing Hasbro can do so much better with the Movie designs. A rerelease for this guy is great for those who really want one or missed out but here's really hoping Hasbro decides to give some of these Bayverse designs another go. Would love to see this Grimlock as a Commander class, and Hound as a Leader down the road.
The line without a doubt improved drastically over the years but I don't think I'd say it had a rough start. Even the first few SS figures were lightyears ahead of anything that came before (regarding the movie figures). The line has always been impressive and has had few duds.
Though there are some odd parts to this design, there's a reason this is my favourite studio series of 2018. Also, i got the original version of the mold (alongside Jetfire, in a great deal), and i like the colours more than the Buzzworthy version which i don't have.
I want new ones so badly. That comment from the design team was wild. Either commander class to scale core class or Titan class to scale with voyagers.
6:24 ya funnily enough I got my hands on Commander Motormaster since he was reissued and his heads seemed to have glue as well because I had to turn them so hard they felt like they were going to break. And I even saw superglue bubbles ooze out of the Menasor head and I popped them and now I have the white crap on him as well it even smelled like super glue.
Eversince Grimlock was revealed as a Studio Series figure. I really wanted Studio Series make the rest of the Dinobots. It would be so cool to see modern movie accurate Dinobots for my collection. As of now, they haven’t made the rest of them and I’m still waiting. It’s been years Hasbro!!!
Thank you for that reminder. People comparing Hasbro toys to far more expensive unofficial products are completely ignoring the economy that comes with pricepoint.
I remember getting the Age of Extinction and The Last Knight Grimlock toys, and both there left legs broke off in the first five or so minutes of playing with them
I still do love my Studio Series AoE Grimlock, It's not the G-Creation monstrosity but it's good enough to enjoy and considering it was one of the two first leader classes of the new line, they did pretty well with him. Also I don't really collect Studio Series that much so it means something to me if I do buy any Studio Series stuff. 7:06 well no shit the mouth's gonna be that way since you didn't properly lock the arms into the torso since there's a notch there that people usually miss since it's a tight fit, of course that shit wouldn't line up properly. It would make the neck hole a bit better hidden and that arm part more compact. Other than that the dinosaur mode is serviceable for what it is, a $70 Canadian mass release from the first wave of the line ever. If he got remade with the modern engineering of 2023, he'd be a lot smaller so the only actual way they make him to extreme standards is with a commander class.
Feel like this grimlock figure should have come with his maul weapon. Here's hoping they do slug, scorn, and strafe from age of extinction for studio series.
They will do it after they completed 86 🙄 They still need to hurry up with 86, I really don't care if they rush the 86 figures, im pretty sure no-one cares about 86, what characters do they even have to do next? Like we pretty much have every character from Legacy, Earthrise and Kingdom It's really fustrating, I'm even a G1 fan but I more or so grew up with bayverse, like why didn't they make 86 its own line.
I noticed that this Grimlock loosely follows the voyager Scorn they released. Keeps the dino bigger with the hips higher. There wasn't enough left after the big legs to fill the T-Rex out.
If Hasbro/Takara never does a Commander AOE Grimlock, both Wei Jiang and Black Mamba upscaled and modified the SS, so maybe y'all should consider those as an option?
Greetings. I bought Studio Series Leader Class Grimlock in late 2018 when he was on sale at Target and I haven't looked back. Both modes still look decent, in my opinion. What's still tricky for me is moving his legs around during transformation because of those hinge joints.
If his horns moved like the original figure and he had the wrecking ball as an accessory and his mace with engineering similar to 109 Megatron he'd be the ultimate Grimlock
I got mine as part of a lot that included the TLK Dinobots (minus Grimlock); it was about a month or two before we found out this was getting a Buzzworthy release.
I still have my Studio Series Grimlock from its original wave. I always thought this figure was awesome. The robot is amazing, and even though the dinosaur mode isn't perfect, it does what I need it to do and looks very cool. Only thing I always disliked was the lack of accessories. That never made sense. Overall a great figure to this day.
I sold my original one, but I'm considering buying him again. He is pretty good, especially compared to current leaders. The biggest problem I had was all his ratchets shattering
I had one for a while, also sold it off a lil while ago. I really liked it at first, he’s big and that drybrushing is nice but the dino mode was always kind of ass, even with upgrades. The Gcreation Wrath is more than a worthy replacement, and I got mine for 240 Canadian 😤
This figure is pretty amazing. I see a lot of recency bias with the community to be honest because people are raving about ROTB figures but so many of them aren't even better than this.
all I know getting both Legacy Eco (repainted SS86) and this one in like the same week is, 86 Gridlock is more funny, but 07 looks cooler just standing there
Here me out but if we going for the scale accuracy then scorn gotta be commander too🙏🏾 bc him and grimlock were the same size but I completely agree with you a brand new go at this to get the articulation right to get certain designs flaws corrected ouuweeee
How the hell did the butt flap on you copy stayed up there in dino mode??? Mine was also a BB reissue copy, but mine decided to dangle his butt flap on the ground
I bought this dude then returned him a day later after not liking this dino mode nor his poseibility and got armada megs but glad they rereleased this guy for those who wanted hom
I got this guy for my birthday a few months ago and he's definitely one of my favourite figures in my collection. The many ratchet joints make him feel solid but I do feel that the rerelease could have had given him his mace from the film.
I WISH I could only pay 50$ for this guy since we don't get leaders here & if we did they would cost more than 100$. Keep in mind SS 86 Voyagers cost 70 Euros here so a Leader would be impossible in my countries retail.
The Chinese oversized knock offs (bmb and weijiang) of this mold are actually so much better than the original that it’s funny. If you were to compare them this one would look like the cheap fake. They took the mold made it bigger and included more accessories that improve the Dino mode. And for only like $70
Negl I don't own this(my cousin does) I've played with it at his house and HOLLYY F U C K do I love this toy. But everyone has their own opinions so whatever
In my opinion I just really dislike this grimlock design in general. Its messy, unorganised and when it comes to making a figure of it there is always so many sacrifices made to the robot mode just to make it possible to transform into something vaguely t.rex shaped.
This thing is a very heavily retooled/remolded version of TLK Scorn, which is itself a fantastic figure (a lot of the TLK figures were actually), but it does not suit the bayverse Grimlock, I passed on this one from the get go. Maybe like he said we'll get commander versions of the dinobots, even if it takes years I wouldnt mind
Huh. That transformation really reminds me of BW Megatron...if AoE Grimlock were a Dollar and a Quarter Tree KO of BW Megatron. And while it's far from perfect, it's a sizable improvement over the AoE/TLK Voyager, a definitive improvement over the trash that were AoE Leader & AoE Stomp n Chomp, and a just far cooler take than the previous best offering in AoE Construct-Bots Dinofire Grimlock.
i would kill for them to do a commander aoe grimlock with better articulation, more complex engineering, the missing accessories, and a better dinosaur mode
May I join your kill spree? Imagine all of the aoe dinobots 0w0
I'm still waiting for a new scorn figure
Makes more sense than leaders
also a more accurate transformation.
G creation grimlock is your answer then

86 is stupid
Ironically for me SS started off with a bang and progressively went downhill after the first 2 years.
@@octobotimus I can't disagree more with you but to each their own opinion.
How are mirage and nightbird phenomenal? The sillouetes are out of wack and the backpacks are camping grade

His design in the film was gorgeous, but they did him dirty by not letting him talk🤦
They did all of the dinobots dirty but that's Michael Bay for ya
@@richardch.4356They replaced half of the team with whoever the hell scorn is and a technobot
@@tyrannomon267 yeah but despite that scorn was pretty badass I don't like what they did to Grimlock especially in last knight
"me grimlock cgi"
But he was very eloquent in the film. He said “rragh” “aarrrgh” and “yrrraahhhh”
So glad I was able to get this guy at long last Buzzworthy Bumblebee came in clutch
For once buzzworthy bumblebee came in handy
yeah lol

2:10 missed opportunity to put 2008 takanuva there because his shoulder pads are also heads
Does anyone remember when we thought that the rusty truck was Grimlock?

the dna design upgrade kit makes hom so much better

One thing I wonder... Why the heck did DNA Design not make a new skirt piece! It makes so much sense to.
Have you seen the baiwei ver? It’s oversized! It comes with a lot of accessories and a clear plastic 32 Optimus prime.
I noticed that this Grimlock loosely follows the voyager Scorn they released. Keeps the dino bigger with the hips higher. There wasn't enough left after the big legs to fill the T-Rex out.
Great review man. The people commenting here are loads more intelligent than the ones commenting on Instagram! 😂
Water as far as I'm aware the Black Mamba version of Grimlock which is even bigger than that third-party one it's only like $90

I bought this loose on ebay for like $80 or something a couple of years ago. I got burned! Who knew they would re-release it?

Saw grimlock in hand @ Target and instantly remembered why I didn’t pick it up the first release lol
I sold my original one, but I'm considering buying him again. He is pretty good, especially compared to current leaders. The biggest problem I had was all his ratchets shattering
Get the Black Mamba version. I have him and my GOD......he's the most imposing figure I own
I think he will have a normal hand if the hand mace is removable, and he can do the traditional transformation when the normal hand becomes leg
DNA Design upgrade kit really helps.
I had one for a while, also sold it off a lil while ago. I really liked it at first, he’s big and that drybrushing is nice but the dino mode was always kind of ass, even with upgrades. The Gcreation Wrath is more than a worthy replacement, and I got mine for 240 Canadian 😤
would love a whole series of these Dinobots
The dino head on my buzzworthy grimlock was warped and I couldn't transform it.
Studio series Grimlock isn’t a great figure. But damn is it an awesome statue.
I got the upgrade kit for this one, it was well worth it. If the upgrade kit is still available, you need to get it.
You should get the Black Mamba OS Ko. It's huge and they fixed a lot issues from the original.
I heard that from the Hasbro Q n A if they would do the APE Dinobots they’d do them in Titan class which would be insane to see lol
1:34 nah ss is probably like the same price in the aftermarket😭
I WANT IT SO BAD BUT ITS DAMN EXPENSIVE HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES LIKE 3,350 PESOS?
Looks like it has more of a Beast Wars S1 Megatron transformation rather than Grimlock's traditional transformation.
Any of the oversized versions of this mold go hard
It’s actually big and ss grimlocks is way then the original ones he finally has two full heads instead of split the head in half
Was he the last leader class figure that felt like old leader class?
I do hope we get an update for this guy. I think the commander class would work for this guy.
This figure is pretty amazing. I see a lot of recency bias with the community to be honest because people are raving about ROTB figures but so many of them aren't even better than this.
He was my first studio series figure
So is there any news about his restock? He was sold out as soon as he was available to preorder😢
there is a platinum edition of the dinobots coming out but is on clear plastic, would It be worth it?
all I know getting both Legacy Eco (repainted SS86) and this one in like the same week is, 86 Gridlock is more funny, but 07 looks cooler just standing there
Atleast on your copy the rear skirt price stays up. On mine it was loose and kept hanging down in dino mode.
My original one kept doing that
OK but hear me out
Commander Grimlock, Leader for the rest of 'em.
I feel like Grimlock deserves to be the biggest AOE Dinobot.
Here me out but if we going for the scale accuracy then scorn gotta be commander too🙏🏾 bc him and grimlock were the same size but I completely agree with you a brand new go at this to get the articulation right to get certain designs flaws corrected ouuweeee
Please review the studio series bread, tortilla, brioche, and baguette
Did you have voyager class grimlock? He was such a weird and wacky toy imo and had I "unique"and mostly simple transformation
I’m getting him for my birthday so I can’t wait
How the hell did the butt flap on you copy stayed up there in dino mode???

Does your nacelle have the molding issue

What intro music is that ?
Mainline Mirage review when
This is the leader class figure that I really want to get and robot mode is fantastic but dino mode is a bit crap but still it's so good
1:10 Virgin first party vs Chad third party
Is it just me or that 3rd party Grimlock looks kinda ugly. By that i mean the body proportion looks so weird
I really like this fig even tho i havent bought him yet lol great review
The transformation reminds me of that one Power Rangers toy megaZord from Dino charge
GUYS HE SAID THE THING! 5:44
I got this guy for my birthday a few months ago and he's definitely one of my favourite figures in my collection. The many ratchet joints make him feel solid but I do feel that the rerelease could have had given him his mace from the film.

My youngest brother loves this figure, that's all that matters
its definantly better than all of the mainline ones thats for sure!
can the mace come off of the hand?
No sadly 😢
The mace IS the hand
The right arm just kills it for me, it ruins it
How much for this
I disagree that the third party one looks better, at least in robot mode.

Personally, I like this guy a lot.
black mamba and weijang has more beautiful dino mode lol
Ancient Leader is SUPERIOR
almost similar to Beastwars Trex Megatron
I like this design tbh
The paint job saved this one.
I had this, I didn't like it, I returned it
Even as a diehard Bayverse design defender, I never liked how they did the dinobots so I don’t really care about missing out on this fig
Option 3: just crumple up some aluminum foil in to the vague shape of a dinosaur. It would look about the same.
