Read interviews of parents whose pit bull killed their kid. They are all the same. "We raised it from a puppy. It was always gentle and never showed signs of aggression." You might as well just keep a grenade with the pin pulled in your hand and walk around the neighborhood as have a pit bull for a pet. I can’t see a reasonable risk vs reward ratio with that as a “pet”. They might be nice to you, then turn around and eat someone else. Nope. I have 3 kids and I wouldn’t allow them
    around those dogs. Period.

I've always thought if i could get a dog when they are a few weeks old. They would never be aggressive. Last year i got a cane corso, blue nose pit mix and his parent were specifically breed to be guard dogs. Yeah, he dont play lol very protective and turns into a demon towards other dogs and ppl his never seen before. Its funny cause at the dog park his cool cause ive taking him there since he was a puppy, but if im walking him its a totally different story. But, Cleo was a legit rescue dog and had extreme energy/emotions and would sometimes lash out at random guest/family members. His wife was pregnant at the time and they were all extremely worried about the newborn baby w/ the pitbull… Long story short he had to give it away to a friend… However, he still keeps in touch with cleo, he did not 100% abandon her innfact, he talks about in his podcast, every weekend or so he would visit her… Unfortunately, a couple years later, she went to heaven

I’ve got a pitbull/boxer mix and he’s weird with dogs when he’s in his territory. Like if a dog walks past our fence? Drooling, growling, barking tryna get at it. But if I have him on a walk? This mf literally whines when he sees a dog. And he’s so nice with them out in public, never had an issue with people either. But if a dog or person walks by my house and he sees them out the window or out in the backyard? He goes ballistic

I work at a dog training/boarding facility and what you're describing is called barrier aggression, it's actually pretty common in a lot of dogs, it's them protecting their territory as you said, at work if I walk a dog past another dog that's in their kennel they go ape shit trying to get to the dog I'm walking. But when we remove that dog from the kennel they suddenly tolerate other dogs perfectly fine.

That's the thing about pitbulls. They are some of the loveliest creatures I've ever seen, but if they decide they don't like something, that something is fucked, and they won't back down, ever. Back when I was a kid, my former pitbull was a total cuddlebug, but once we heard a little commotion in our yard that lasted like 20 seconds max and, when we ran towards it, we found her with some discrete scratches on her snout, thought she got into a quick scrap with a street cat that ran away and thought nothing of it. The next day, we found the cat's cold corpse in the bushes and had to throw it away in a cardboard box. She mauled and killed the fucking cat in less than 20 seconds.

Dangerous animals should not be bred. People breeding vicious fighting animals are cruel and there is absolutely no justification. Ever seen how many pitbulls/crosses are in shelters compared to their percentage of the dog population? I don't get why people are protesting so hard at this. Don't keep breeding them and if 'it's the owners, not the dog', then it follows that people who own them are much more likely to treat a dog in a way that makes them violent and sometimes killers.

Rescues lie about the breeds on purpose, a black pit is a lab cross, a spotted pit is Dalmatian cross, etc. So let's be clear here, you were lied to. It's thanks to people like this that many have the complete wrong impression of how most dogs even behave, or what they even look like, thanks to the disinformation spread about.
Shelters are full of pits because they're incompatible with a domestic setting where they're exposed to triggering stimulus (prey), and too many people (men with fragile egos) just want to feel powerful by making themselves look like a threat with a dog that's hard to control, other dogs are brushed aside as "for pussies", they then surrender these dogs and the shelter does whatever it can to ship them so that they can clear space.
Not saying there's not docile Pitbulls out there, but they're going to be as common as dumb border-collies, or retrievers that don't fetch, because a pitbull was/is similarly bred to do a job, they're bred to tear things apart (and are very capable of doing such), not to "nanny" like the misinformation campaigns want people to believe.

@@Bone89 Yes with pitts. First off, you can’t manipulate the statistic and split a breed down to “the sweet acclimated ones”- that’s just you building a narrative. Second, the other statistic worth noting is that the American Pitbull terrier (one specific breed under the colloquial but incorrect Pitbull umbrella) is the most misidentified breed in the world- a blind study showed there’s 10 different breeds commonly mistaken for pitts even by professionals. Third, Pitbulls receive the most abuse of any dog breed in history because of people like you who perpetuate a stereotype, cherry-pick statistics, and say things like this. Props to @Jay Lalonde for knowing humans need to be more accountable!

Yeah not sure what Joe is talking about here, my pittie goes to the dog park everyday and loves to greet dogs and people. I can literally take her off leash anywhere without a problem. I always dreamed of a dog like that but never found it with any of the other breeds.

Pittbulls ARE NOT A DANGEROUS BREED! I've been a dog owner my whole life and a dog groomer since 2006, They literally are no different than any other dog! Some dogs need patience and training. ( huskys, Belgian malamutes) Pittys need to be socialized/ de-sensatized from day 1 you normalize other people/ dogs/ cats coming in and out of your home, you grab their paws/ clip nails/ TAKE THEIR FOOD BOWL AND MOVE IT, PICK IT UP AND GIVE IT BACK SO THEY KNOW THEY THEIR FOOD IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE THERE! ITS COMMON SENSE, AND THAT IS WHAT YOU SHOUKD DO WITH EVERY BREED OF DOG AS A PUPPY. EVEN AN ADOPTED DOGGIE
