A girl I was dating punched me just out of the blue one night after I told her no...that's it.....I just said I wasn't going to do something she wanted. I literally ran out of the house, got in my truck and left. WHY? Her Mother's cousin was the chief of police in that town. Sometimes, no matter what you do, you'll be in the wrong.....distance is the only remedy at that point. She hit me hard, too. I had to lie about the bruise on my cheek to my co-workers.

No man is ever supposed to hit a woman.
I remember my dad hit my mom when i was 8-9 years old. He wasnt an abuser in any way and is actually the kindest man i know. As a kid all I knew was my dad hit my mom and no excuse. But when i got a little older I realized that my mom was being completely insane and violent herself and my dad was trying to calm her down for a while before he gave her a slap to the face. He didn't reach back and put his body into it, just a quick stern slap. My mom stopped dead in her tracks and was in disbelief. I think she was doing what Burr said, taking advantage that a man would never hit her.
While I don't condone it, I can totally understand it. Children can do the same thing, even teens. We got a couple of bratty 14-15 year olds in the neighborhood who keep wrecking stuff and making noise throughout the day and there is basically nothing you can do about it and they know it. Knowing consequences and the physical punishment of it is one of life's best lessons.

Had an ex that got wayyyyy too wasted at a friends party, had to trick her into getting in the car to leave, tried to crash us the entire time home, finally got home, she started clawing like a psycho, warned her I was going to call 911, she started punching, clawing and screaming, ran out while talking to 911, she chased me, tripped over a curb and fell down pretty hard. Some old dude came out accusing me of hitting her and everyone who saw told him she tripped over the curb, he still walked up to me with his fist cocked back talking about “you wanna hit a woman?” I said go ahead and try me buddy I’ve got the cops on the phone right now, I was ready to legally defend myself with the dispatcher on the phone but she said no no no no run away, get away, thankfully I listened, she spent the night in jail, and I got out of that relationship shortly after. W men for once.
Jesus man what a nightmare. I only experienced 1% of that and I still get anxiety thinking about it. I was at a stop sign and I got lightly rear ended by a lady in a truck. As we got out to politely exchange information, some guy across the street stopped his car to point at ME and said I hit her. We ignored him, but the absurdity of it and the lack bought having an on-scene “witness” lie about me still makes me think.

The way Bill Burr’s brain works is both a mystery to me and a revelation. He seems to say out loud the thoughts that lurk unexpressed in the back of my mind. He’s right too. We really NEED that conversation about the rights and wrongs, do’s and don’t’s of what to do about the seemingly increasing numbers of threatening, physically aggressive women in the world.
Honestly we live in a world where you have to pretend to be a woman just so you can legally defend yourself from women.

My ex wife punched me 1 time about 5 years into the relationship and never did it again. After like 2 seconds I got over the shock, picked her up carried her to the bathroom. Put her in the shower turned cold on full and held her there until she quit swinging. After about 2 min she just crossed her arms and pouted, like a toddler behavior she was displaying. Full clothing and all, acting like a two year old get treated like a two year old.
That is why Coach Greg Adams calls them children with breasts.

I appreciate you sharing this. This stuff is rarely sung. I'm no longer friends with my best friend because his wife thinks it's ok to hit me or throw things at me. He doesn't even see it. I've asked her not to. So now their kid is down an honorary uncle. And I miss my friend and my "niece".
My older sisters would hit me all the time until i hit back and then they would immediately play the victim. It was so frustrating. I begged God for a good woman to marry and I got one. 15 years married never hit her and she is a true woman and kind to me. I now know that some women are just mean and others are actually awesome.
My sister was 1ft taller than me, 13 years older than me, 10 years less mature than me, and also had a black belt and years of fighting experience. You can imagine how that turned out

Almost every romcom has a scene of a woman slapping a man and his response is to put his head down and walk away. I've been seeing this programming as far back as I can remember and I've always taken shit for calling it out. It's unacceptable.
It was very common in soap operas as well.

I had a girlfriend a while ago who was practically ethereal. She was a grown adult but weighed barely more than 50 kg and had the build of a woodland faerie, whereas at the time I was 188 cm tall and built like a fridge from the fifties. One night we were having an argument, she got angry and hit me in the face. It wasn't that strong a strike, but that's really not the point-I was outraged that she would cross that line because I would never have done it to her, and even more than that I was offended that she would hit me and assume there would be no retaliation. Just the sheer fucking arrogance of it.
Pure, white hot anger exploded in my head, just for a moment before I managed to seize control and push it down. I don't know how I looked in that moment, but I suddenly noticed my girlfriend had lost all of her enthusiasm and she looked actually terrified, like a child faced with an angry bear. I took a moment to steady myself, quietly said "do not ever do that again," and then left the room.
I realised later that seeing me then truly lose my temper for the first time was the moment it twigged for her that despite my being reasonably peaceful, she wasn't actually untouchable and if she continued provoking me eventually she would go too far, possibly causing the kind of consequences that no amount of lawyers could ever undo.
Once a relationship has crossed into physical attacks, either from one person, or the other, or both. That relationship is doomed to fail.

Having a younger brother taught me not to push men to the next level. We fought growing up, but at a certian point he suddenly become much stronger than me. I thought we could still fight but he wouldn't hit back because he knew how strong he was. He finally pushed me back (I deservrd it), and I went through the door.
I was assaulted by this girl at a party in college. We were just friends and I had recently told her to f*** off because she was a b***. She confronted me at this party a month later. She got in my face and was saying "I dare you to hit me" and stuff like that. I physically ran away from her at first. One of my friends got between us, so I could bail. She followed me out to the porch. She slapped me so hard, that I fell over. I reacted with a punch to her nose. She had to go to the hospital. I was charged with a felony. She was not charged with anything. I had to get a lawyer, and I subsequently became an alcoholic. For 6 months, I thought I was going to prison for 2 year sentence. I was worried about getting graped (because I'm a pretty boy). I gained like 20 pounds from drinking lots of beer to deal with the stress. Luckily, all the witnesses helped me beat the case. The best way to defend yourself is to avoid women entirely. That's what I do now. But also, wearing a body cam would help too. You can get really tiny ones that record HD video nowadays.

They call for violence toward men on movies, television, twitter. I go out of my way to avoid them. The body cam is just another tactic for protection. Years ago my wife once smacked the back of my head out of anger and I INSTANTLY put her into the wall with my face in hers. Gave her the one and only warning “you ever get physical with me again and I will get physical with you”. She immediately knew she crossed the line and apologized. Been married nearly 30 years so far and no one has been hit again.
I respect women but demand they respect me. Cross my line and all protections come off. I simply do not tolerate anyone hitting me. Gender is irrelevant.

If a woman is physical when she's angry you will know pretty early on in the relationship and there's only two things to do.....one, and the smartest decision is to leave. Two....which my buddy did and it worked. Is the moment they hit you, you hit them back in the same manner, same place but just harder. I saw this with my own eyes. My buddy's girlfriend when they first started dating would smack him in the leg for whatever reason....when she did that he would smack her in the leg but harder...she would be shocked and angry than hit him again to which he hit her again but harder.....she never hit him again I was told after that never. That's an education right there.
I’ve always found that annoying. Women who slap a man’s leg, arm, or shove them out of a little frustration or anger. It shows that’s what they quickly resort to and is a red flag of what’s to come.
Don't hit the women back. Not going to help anything. Either she gets therapy and works on herself, or he leaves. Do. Not. Hit. Her. Back.

He brings up a lot of good, thought provoking points. Because if there's a woman who has a behavior pattern of, being extra confrontational and violent towards men because she thinks she's never going to get hit, since men aren't supposed to hit women, when does SHE draw the line? When is SHE able to stop herself and tone it down? When did SHE win? When is the confrontation over? Because the man retaliating is an equal consequence of her unruly, confrontational, violent behavior, so if she never receives some sort of consequences for acting extremely out of pocket, how can she ever control herself to know enough is enough? It's super unfair because women like that could go on for hours acting like immature temper-tantrum children if you let them.
If she doesn't have the moral wherewithal to know when enough is enough on her end (i.e. Stop HER violent actions & verbal abuse), the only thing the man can do is either:
1) Hit her back (highly unrecommended), 2) Just take it until she's done (in their shared living quarters which is supposed to be a sanctuary for both of them), 3) Leave his sanctuary he pays the bills for them to live in.
If she's the type to take advantage of the fact that men shouldn't hit her, and goes full-blown petty because of that mercy, do you think she's the type of person who has wisdom to know when to stop herself from taking it too far on her end? Most likely not, so it's a super unfair position for the man. He's better off not being in a relationship with her ever again.

Its super true because everyone should be aware that actions have consequences. I just constantly wonder how we got from the 1950s where slapping your wife was encouraged to now. And yes I support slapping women, and men. It brings people back to reality.

I have met one woman in my life. I repeat- one woman who seemed rational. She was my english professor in college. Do you think all women are prone to this irrational violence? My grandpa hit my grandma, like beat her. My uncle beat my aunt, like with a bat. When I was a kid I was brainwashed to believe this is the man being terrible. But when I grew up I realized that some women just love being beaten. Like they love drama and pushing buttons and getting hit. I agree that some men are just psychos, but even in most of the scenarios you are supposing, I would say its a fraction of that.

he got an STD from her, and she was disrespectful when he confronted her about it. The argument led to her saying some really disrespectful things and he lost his cool. The events are detailed in statements she made to the police.

In middle school, I recall that this girl became upset with me for saying something, I can't remember if it was a joke or criticism. I managed to get away from her by running around the school, but I got caught when I tried to flee down the auditorium stair ramp because the door was locked. She then started punching me while everyone else was screaming, "Fight fight!" I didn't want to fight her because, well, she was a female plus she was tomboy, so I just put up with the beating and scratches until she grew weary and left me alone. 😅 Subsequently, when we were in high school, she was beaten severely by a guy I knew, resulting in swelling around her eyes and a lump on her head. He had only said something that she didn't agree with, and he had warned him not to touch him after she got angry and she putting her hands all over his face and mush him . He didn't hesitate to hit her because she was one of those aggressive girls who can't calm down once she’s mad , so he beat her like a man.😅

I will preface this with I am a bigger guy about 6'2 and 230lbs. I use my size to avoid situations I prefer not to get into any physical altercations and avoid fighting. My ex slapped me in the face after a silly argument. She hit me so hard it broke my glasses. My instant reaction was to grab her by the neck and lift her off the ground. It was only a second and I didn't squeeze enough to choke her but the look on her face when she realized the difference in physical power was scary. I remember that I turned cold and emotionless and said, "I never raise my hand to anyone but if anyone ever raises their hand to me... You get a pass this once". It did not work out and we separated after.

My mother would say things that were so evil to my step-father that he should have moved out, and I would have gone with him. How that man dealt with her, I don't know. I was in college at Ga Tech, playing baseball and my roommate was a GIANT 6’6” 300+ lbs Nose guard for the football team. Anyway we were at a party and his 5ft gf slapped the crap out of him, and he grabbed her, and had her upside down. Everybody was like “whoa, big fella. Chill!” And he was like like “I’m not finna so nuttin’…except this” And rips the longest fart, and the he was holding her, her face was by his hip so her face was right there! he had her arms pinned to her side, and she didn’t want to kick too much b/c she had a tight skirt in with a thong on so she kinda had to just take it. Then he put her down and she left sobbing. Her friends took after her, and then then it was a great party after that.

Man here, an above average sized man, 6', 250, and built like a linebacker. I was in a long term relationship with a tiny abusive woman, who assaulted me countless times. She never took any responsibility for any of it, and I never struck back, but I would defend myself. On numerous police involved events, cops told me regardless of who the perpetrator was, I'd spend the night in jail because she was a woman, and I was twice her size. Yes I understand that my situation is unique, and not applicable 95% of the time, but everyone, man or woman, needs to take responsibility for their actions, and be safe.
Fast forward to her being with another man, and they destroyed their home with assaulting eachother. Glad I knew it wasn't my issue anymore

As a general and statistical fact the leading type of IP is 2 violent people meet and date and hit each other. We know this from longitudinal studies. The next most common is a woman hitting a man. the 3rd most common is a man hitting a woman, but as that is pretty taboo and dangerous, these guys tend more to be psychos - and there aren't enough of them for even struggling, traumatized women to draw from the dating pool 1 after the other. The general picture of IPV in culture and politics is so opposite of what is known from research, that it can't persist without a lot of people of both sexes being dishonest. Many of the women you are talking about are lying or, are truly abused but hiding the fact that they are also a perp.
