    Google French Cleat my dude. You could have gotten away with less than a single 2x4. And it would be clean AF against the wall. Looks great tho. Nice job.

    Just add a sensor when you walk in or out of the door so it turns on when you are in the room and off when you are not...maybe even hook it up to a light switch or something.

    Got something for you to think about. Instead of painting the wood, maybe cover/wrap the span between the the vertical wood with material and even mount acoustic panels between them. Would remove the 2x4 look and make it look like contemporary deco. Just a thought. 😬

      Jason worried about 100w, and his house draws 3000w all the time......

    • @bigbigspoon
      @bigbigspoon ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I think even a cheap sturdy mount would have worked. I would have gone with a mount for sure, maybe a Cheif one if money wasn't an issue. But in the BMB fashion, why buy a mount when he could rabbit hole some 2x4's together for a mount that are not actual 2x4's and then place some recess lights behind it and create a monstrosity. Of course trying to pick that thing up alone and place it on said wall mount would be near impossible.

    • @Anna-abc
      @Anna-abc ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just looked at Amazon for sturdier kinds of wall mounts and even they were specced for maximum of 100-150 pounds of weight, even if the manufacturer promised it could withstand a 90" tv, still the weight capacity wouldn't be enough. I know Jason's solution doesn't look the best but seriously a normal tv mount designed for normal tvs wouldn't work here. It's maybe hard to imagine how much of a weight difference there is through the video, but I think if you tried to lift that thing and then thought about hanging it with cheap thin metal you would think otherwise too.

    You need to create a user with just dashboard access. Have the tv auto sign in with that so you don't get the menu on the left. Just a dashboard.

    Editing is a fantastic skill to learn..... It's also something you never quite learn well enough because there's always something more to learn about what to keep what not to, etc to tell the same story.
    Feels like this 27 minute long video could have probably been seven or 10 minutes...... I mean the walk with the dog to the garage to get boards, keep it? The few seconds of being worried the board might accidentally bump into the car?....keep it?
    Absolutely love the content as far as the technology and the setup and the potential of the grand ambition you're going for, but editing is very important to maintain good quality which keeps the audience around.

    • @dalemorton6241
      @dalemorton6241 ปีที่แล้ว

      came here to say the same thing. A french cleat of modest size with 2 lag bolts to the wall (ofc in studs) can typically support upwards of 200 lbs.... if you did one cleat with 2 lags at top and one cleat with 2 lags at bottom... should EASILY support that screen and eliminate the unsightly 2x4s

    I think the better idea would have the horizontal runs attached to the TV and then the vertical run on the wall, but only slightly longer than the horizontal boards are apart. Put notices in the studs on the wall with inverted matching notches on the bottom edge of the horizontal pieces so they interlock. The horizontal stud fits into the notch holding it against the wall, and gravity keeps the TV in the notch. I am sure there is metal hardware that can do the same thing.

    Instead of the two buttons to refresh, you can hold down your finger and it will bring up the context menu in Chrome, where you have refresh. To go full screen, just go to the top right, click the three dots, and select full screen. Just in case you ever run out of space.

    • @Anna-abc
      @Anna-abc ปีที่แล้ว

      It's also super customized to Jason's situation and most of the code probably wouldn't work well for you without tweaking, and if you knew how to tweak it in the first place, you could probably do something similar yourself. It's a problem with these super custom configurations, they cannot just be simply thrown to another situation and work the same way.

    I'd like to look into something like this (home assistant not the touch screen) I'd like to find out what you have for solar and how it's integrated. I have SolarBear using the app "my SolarEdge" but have no idea how I'd get ANY of it setup (actual home assistant included). I'm mare or less looking for something to show how our panels are doing and to notify me if there's any issues with any of them, from there maybe integrate other things.

    You might want to consider putting the framing and wiring except for the comp & lights, behind the drywall. The "red hats" are not for that application. There are smooth bushings, clamps or rubber lined fittings that should be there instead. I get the impression that your carpentry and electrician skills are lacking so please do a bit of research on these topics so you can get a much more finished end result. I mention this so that you can improve your knowledge and skill sets as well have safer wiring for your family. Beyond that you did a great job and I envy your ability to code. The giant touch screen is super cool but seems very impractical. I'm guessing that most of the automation controls will never be used from that location, so I don't quite understand why a more focused control panel wasn't used. My guess is that it's a sort of master control panel to help troubleshoot a problem within the house by ruling out either the other controller or the device. Either way, your house, your toys. I would probably do the same thing if I had a large touch screen sitting around. Good luck with your current and future projects.

      Don't even bother with the docker. Just spin up a VM running Home Assistant OS. You wont have the community app store if you run docker only. I only know this cause BMB and FIRST NATE walked me through it Friday night on the BMB discord. You will want that store. It also helps streamline editing the YAML file and stuff.

    I just hope there won't be any problems of the TV clicking itself in the middle of the night due to some hair landing on it... But it looks really sick, I would love to look at a dashboard every now and then while doing other stuff. Have fun with your new addiction lol (At least this one is moderately safe, well until it clicks your doors open in the middle of the night but you know what I mean)

  • @MikeHarris1984
    @MikeHarris1984 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Why not make a French cleat mount???? You have the 2x4 on the wall right. You would only need one 2x4. Cut two pieces about 26" to give you play room, cut a 22.5° angle down the center line of each 2x4 long ways. So you have 4 matching 26" pieces. Mount to on tv and two on wanna with angle going down into wall. So the tv hangs and just wedges itself on the mount.

  • @MikeHarris1984
    @MikeHarris1984 ปีที่แล้ว

    It feels like your 12 volt going out look at what the amperages for each one and then just get a 12 volt AC to DC converter with enough amperage to hold all the lights. Remember amperage will only draw how much it needs so you can get a 12 volt 50 amp brick but if you only need 12 volt 12.5 amp that's all it's going to pull so you can always have some extra head room to add more lights. Rather than wiring up all those individual AC to DC converters from the start and then you could even get one of those spider cables where it's got the barrel jack going in and then five or six barrel jacks out split usually for security cameras but they work for here too

    I have two 7 inch Pi screens I mounted on my walls. One at entry and one in master. Each one shows the dashboard relivant on boot. They are PoE. Mounted flush in wall. So leaving, push a goodbye button and tv turns onto dog channel, sets valume, Alexa plays classical music everywhere else (this keeps dogs calm) and locks the door in 45 sec. So I push, leave, and all doors lock, everything is turned off / on and I get a notification saying all is good. Same with goodnight in master. Screen turns off after 2 min. Walk up and tap to wake up.
    I also have a Ubiquiti 7" connect flush mounted in kitchen. That this is awesome. I have a connect 27" in master showing my 18 protect cams around my house. I am able to use sensors in protect cams. I.e. person detection, smoke, movement, dog detection, light levels, sound hearing, etc for my automations.
