    3D print the parts you need to fix the gaps in the back?

    You have 3d printers, you could always design and print things to either fill in the gaps on the back or just print complete replacements for the power supply shroud and the IO shield area, overall it is looking pretty sweet!

    Jason: Dismisses the concept of using 2x1000w hot-swappable PSUs because "what if one fails?"
    Also Jason: completely mutilates case to mount a single PSU.
    So...now what if one fails? And I won't even mention the "temporary" fan 🤣

    Love this DIY solution but would personally recommend building a smaller RIG in a rack mount case and connecting it up to a Dell PowerVault MD1200, this would allow for better expansion in the future because you can just buy more MD1200's and hook them up to your custom rack mount rig using HBA cards

    Have you thought about 3D printing a PSU mounting
    bracket for the case?
    Also case name suggestions. Zeus's Monsta or Franken Zues.

    • @vetsus3518
      @vetsus3518 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      to add to that.. cases actually have mounting plates for the PSU... so it mounts to the case and then the psu actually mounts to that plate.... you could probably source one from an old case and it would fit on that case and you could mount a standard ATX power supply....

      Given that there were already standard motherboard standoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if the case manufacturer also made different rear panels with standard I/O shield holes too.

    Quick amazon search - Zeus Stickers - comes up with a couple of vinyl stickers that might be a nice addition to your case. Not sure I would go matte black, as every scratch or chip is going to be glaringly apparent. White and gold with blue greek motif trim would be my initial suggestion if you really wanted to go over the top (yeah, I know...easy to suggest when your not the one doing the work... ). Looking forward to part 2.

    dude your nuts man! I tried to hang with you with respect to building my home network as you do. Blade servers, and switches. I almost got kicked out of my own house man! LOL!!! My power bill was crazy high. They were charging over 33 cents per kilowatt.
    By the way bro you look good man. Dropped a few Lbs not sure if it's due to the stress of just making healthy choices. Either way, it's good to see ya having fun making good content.

    Nice Job Jason!
    To briefly check the temp of the CPU, you can just paste "sensors | grep CPU" without quotes into the shell. If it doesnt work you might have to install the lm-sensors package. Just "apt install lm-sensors" for that and run "sensors-detect". Keep the defaults and reboot. First command should work afterwards, if it didnt in the beginning.

    You tried to search for parts for that chassis? I am fairly certain you can get a plate for PSU mounting, rear PCIe and IO bracket, newer SATA backplane, maybe even sas expander version if they have it...

    auto zone sells this rubber channel that you can put on the edge of your car door to protect it from dinging other cars when you get out. you can probably use that to take up the space around the io shield and make the cut look a little cleaner.

    Install netdata on it. That gives you all kinds of monitoring information over time, including temps. I have a similar 24 bay Norco rackmount case, and used Netdata when I originally figured out fan speeds.

    Ryobi has a hot glue gun for their 1+ system. I really wish Milwaukee would release one for their M18 system.
    That case appears to be a Chenbro RM41824, which did have an ATX back plate available.

    You could've used the ltt screwdriver bit if you have one of those. I thought you did but I wasn't sure. I had a old isilon server that had some of this same garbage. upgraded the cpus and fans and it was still too loud/slow. It was a 72tb 36bay nas. I switched to a ryzen build for unraid in a rosewill 15 bay case and haven't looked back. It would be nice to have hot swap drives though

    Do hot plug that 24 pin motherboard connector into your motherboard or you will see magic smoke! I can almost guarantee the printout is different! It may be possible to make it work but it will be so much easier to buy a new PS and modify the case to make it fit!

  • @kkpdk

    Those backplanes look entirely passive, with a microcontroller doing disk lights, so plug a 6Gbps drive into it and see if it handshakes 6Gbps?. I assume you aren't looking for 12Gbps SAS.

  • @Hawkins1
    @Hawkins1 ปีที่แล้ว

    You might have airflow issues given the way that board is set up. If airflow is going front to back, the first ram stick will likely going to block air flow over the other ram sticks. Also, the backplane on that board won't help either. Just a reason to mod some new fans in there :) I know of this airflow issue from similar developments. Had a server board that had ram slots perpendicular to the case like yours and ram overheated. Needed ram sticks parallel to the board from front to back
