Jensen Ackles was an amazing addition to the already insanely talented team on The Boys! I think he killed it as Soldier Boy.

Soldier Boy is the only supe who actually keeps his word.
Only issue I had is he wanted the kid dead. That wasn’t part of the deal.

Did he? To me it seemed more like he didnt care if Ryan was collateral in his fight with Homelander. He hit Ryan after Ryan shot him with a laser and then sort of ignored him. Granted he didnt care that Ryan was in the way when he was going to nuke Homelander, but pretty sure if Butcher just took the kid out of the building Soldier Boy wouldnt have cared.
@@Chrono_Mitsurugi he still kept his word on killing homelander. "What the f*ck are you doing? Homelander is right there and now you blink?" collateral damage or otherwise he still was zoned in on what he was asked to do par his and Butchers deal.

i do feel like it is mostly butchers fault solider boy was honest and up front on all counts from the start if butcher had put in a stipulation at the start not to hurt ryan then solider boy woulda acted differently i think and kept his word on that aswell i think butcher just diden't foresee in any situation that homelander would find ryan and that underestemation of homelander cost butcher his revenge ryan and also his health

I hope they give this man a redemption arc or just a interesting dynamic by become the US Military first superhero. Such a great character and Jensen is prefect for it.

Not gonna lie... His torture scenes were fucken brutal. the saw to the neck, the AK47 being unloaded into his throat, everything. It made me empathize with him to a certain extent.
Let's just hope he isn't getting that from Mallory now.
I love that in the entire show soldier boy is the only one who actually lived up to his name. He isnt a super strong pathetic crybaby like homelander but was a competent, skilled soldier who got the job done
Loved season 3 except when Mothers Milk labeled SB racist. Storm was racist, Soldier Boy had equality in his casualties. Even Homelander disagreed with Storm.
I agree. SB could be a callous, murdering a$$hole, but I don't quite see how he was racist.
Jensen Ackles could make any character likable, I think honestly the writing on SB was bad but Jensen always kills it. U just can't dislike the guy.

@@MrDylan102 I think it was overly politicized, and I understand the show is a political satire, but imo they went really hard against the right and threw softballs at the left.
I felt Soldier Boy was meant to represent a negative view of American history, traditional values and the traditional notion of masculinity. I think they created a caricature of that and argued against a position that doesn't actually exist.
As far as just from an entertainment standpoint I didn't think they intended for the viewer to connect w/ the character at all. The intent was that he was a mysoginist/racist etc... bigoted antiquated notions of a bygone era that didn't belong in modern times. I don't think we were supposed to like the character at all. And IMO the only thing that made anyone feel any empathy with or understanding for the character was Jensen's performance.

I love Jensen Ackles face when he scoffs "You're a f**ing disappointment." Just awesome
The way I see SB is that he embodies a certain sense of masculinity as well as a typical "soldier mentality" (who would have thought). I dont think he would willingly kill innocents for no reason. He even says that he didnt want to kill the civilians in the street and that it was accident. The aforementioned "soldier mentality" is a "the mission comes first" and "good soldiers follow orders" mindset I would say. He will obey orders and get the mission done, not caring about collateral damage in the process. MM even states (iirc) that SB carelessly threw a car and that caused his families death. The "racist" aspect is that SB supposedly did not care about them dying because they were black. I, however, think he didnt care because they were just collateral damage who were at the wrong time in the wrong place. This "only the mission matters, not collateral damage" mindset also comes into play when he wants to go through with nuking homelander, despite others (Butcher, Ryan) being there. They made a deal and SB stays true to his word. Kill Homelander and f*ck the collateral damage, he will see the mission through no matter what.
But is he racist? I dont think so. I think he may have some racist tendencies but that has to be seen through the lense of what generation he is from. He is just from a different time period. When he sees an interracial homosexual couple he seems confused for a moment, but not because he is homophobic or racist (per se) but rather because you would never see something like that this openly in the public in his time. So he might be a little bit racist, but what we have seen is honestly not so bad in comparison, considering the time and generation he is from.
Now about his treatment of Noir and the rest of his team. I think he treated them badly, but his mistreatment of Noir didnt look racist to me. He treated gunpowder more or less the same. I understood his comment about Noir "moving up the ladder" (or something like that) in the training scene as being part of his military mindset. He seemed to view his team as soldiers, but they didnt see it that way (I believe). And any soldier will tell you that: never f*ck with the chain of command. Something Noir did by trying to make a solo career.
His mistreatment of his teammates seems to be connected to his masculinity ideal/view, which itself came from his father: man HAVE to be strong to gain respect. If you are weak you will gain no respect and be treated like shit. That can be seen by how he treated gunpowder in the flashback. But that strength does not have anything to do with power, but rather with strength of character. He hits Hughie for "complaining" or "whining", he beats up gunpowder and calls him pathetic. He even calls homelander, the strongest Supe in the show, weak. Yet I think he has respect for Butcher, who SB views as strong (until Butcher backs out on their deal in the end). He even has a moment with Hughie when they talk.
I would argue that he is less of a jerk after his return than he was in the past. But it also has to be said that we mainly see his jerkish behaviour of the past through gunpowders description and Noirs flashback. Two victims of his abuse and while I think that it was generally true I would give him (SB) the slight benefit of the doubt on that one and that he was bad, but not as bad as he is portrayed in for example Noirs flashback. I mean Noir is literally a traumatized victim with brain damage. Maybe not the most reliable of narrators.

ye this is what i got from SB aswell he thinks in the honor comes first give your word keep it your on mission you finsh the job no matter what.but i get the impression he clearly has some form of emotional blunting he doesn't really care he is killing his son just like he doesn't care about all the innocent people he has killed he seems to have cut off his emotions in order to protect and justify himself although it seems besides being tortured for over 50 years he seems to have developed more of a humble form of honor in contrast to his toxic honor and masiculinity he had before his imprisonment but he still has his ego

The closest thing to a real hero out of all the Supes and in the end they all turn on SB.
Tbf soldier boy was also in it only for the fame and admiration. Also he was racist, homphobic, etc. But he was the closest to a real hero.

An old man trapped in a young man’s body, never allowed to die. He’s a sociopath, but you can’t help but feel bad for him.
I think there's a good man hidden behind it. He's just been misunderstood and mishandled to the point where retribution is the only way forward for him now.
I don't think he is a sociopath. I think he is a deeply trouble man. Who from his childhood how is father was. Created deep trauma. He was also a product of his time. Basically transplanted to a completely different era.
He has become one of my all time favorite characters in anything. The actor is amazing. His character in season three. Was amazing.

I really hate what they did with SB. My favorite character by far and in the end just labeled him a racist and gave him a kinda pathetic send off.

Soldier Boy is the only character that I genuinely liked. No BS thinking, honest, keeps his word, understands people better after returning.
In the end when he gets defeated I felt like the protagonist got defeated and the bad guys won.
He's a murderer with a fragile ego. You completely missed the point of his character.

Say what you want, I liked Soldierboy. Yeah, total fucking prick, but a product of his time, environment as well as upbringing. If you ask me, he showed signs of insight into himself halfway through the season, and IMO could've been turned for the better.

I mean to be fair, soldier boy did beat up civil rights activists back when he was Vought's dog. Though we don't see much of that. That's the problem with the show. It's that they only show us a sliver of the monster soldier boy used to be.
And the soldier boy that was Vought's dog isn't the soldier boy we meet. The soldier boy we meet has been through decades of torture. He is honest, focused, traumatized, and hell bent on vengeance.
They only gave soldier boy 3 episodes. If they really wanted us to see him as a true villain, they should have shown more of the beast he used to be.

So i might be reaching but heres something i just thought about. Homelander's got laser vision, as has been shown various different times. And soldier boy has that chest laser thing, that seems to be able to one shot most beings(minus kimiko who still got pretty screwed up).
Yet Soldier boy only got his laser after being experimented on the russians(if im correct its been a while since i watched), but i find it kinda ironic that soldier boy got experimented on and ended up getting a new power that was a similar yet more powerful version of his son's.
Soldier Boy, a based version of Capt America. Love it, and it was so well done. Hope the character returns in the future.

My favorites are soldier boy,butcher,homelander
Soldier boy became my favorite character, I'm glad they deviated from the source material. My grandpa fought in WW 2 and he would never talk about it but my grandma ( who was a true Rosie the riveter) told me some things so I really related to the character. Jenson Ackles nailed the part. What annoys me is SB seems to genuinely think he participated in certain battles like Normandy but other characters say that it's all a bunch of hogwash. That said I hope S4'will clarify this, Come on season 4 !!!

the more I see solider boy and homelander the more i realize they are both giants that represent two diffrent americas one is younger but aging starting to see the world change and shift from what he thinks it should be feeling isolated and no longer celibrated fully or loved, the other is old and grizzly and dousent care for progress or anything outside the war the battle the fight, and all he knows is to fight the good fight be the man and be dominant and his dominance is all he has to cling too without it all he has is fear and also the issue of no longer living in the iluusion he is loved, than there the third the youngest homelanders son, young nieve brave but still young enuph to be tricked, fights for himself refuses to bend the knee to anyone who makes him feel indiffrent and also the biggest diffrence, he douse know love and is capable of it if grasped, hes had a mothers touch unlike the other two but also shares there anger, than there anti america homelanders ex girlfriend, she was a nauztie fascest but good at hiding it in plain site among her fanbase she is america now her goals her way complete takeover, and all of them are in a ring fighting, if you had to choose witch america would you want to live in?

Great character.
People forgot this was a man who was a soldier in the most horrific conflict in human history. Yeah he was a supe but he’s still human and most likely has serious ptsd and that is what made him also so violent and aggressive to his team as they needed to be soldiers like him and weakness would get people killed.
