"I fought for this country. And what did I get for it?"
Jensen Ackles was amazing as Soldier Boy. There was so little screen time of him and his character was a mystery to me, I hope he will return in the future. I think that the creators could tell more and better about him, as well as find an interesting development for this character.
    Anyway, season 3 was incredible.

The way they portray them is more in line if we had actually had powers in a family like this is in a more inhuman way and people get it because it feels real with all the bs people feel noone nowadays either has a family or feels the one they have is absent.. soldier boy and homelander both project a sadness that people feel.

Soldier Boy called Homelander a disappointment bc he himself was a disappointment to his father. When you come from fucked up fathers, you never think your child did enough. No matter what. The fuck did SB expect? Homelander didn't even have parents. He was raised from a fucking tube, bred to be a tool. He's a psychopath but beneath it all, he's just a baby who wants a parent's love and attention. And to raise his son bc he genuinely loves him bc he had no one to raise him.

SB wasn't really a villain, he's more like just a terrible individual like Butcher's dad. His revenge was understandable with context bc all those he kills betrayed him and those who he didn't intend to kill were collateral damage from his PTSD nuke. We haven't seen his side of the story on how and why he killed MM family so I can't really make an opinion if he did it by an accident or he went A-Train or Homelander on them. He was a man of his word and he can actually be reason with unlike some Witch in red.
And even if Soldier Boy was a villain, the number one priority villain The Boys has to take out is Homelander and they just betrayed their greatest shot on doing so bc they prioritize to get rid of PTSD boy.

The irony of the situation is that Soldier Boy was a man of his word till the very end. He never lied about who or what he was, and the people around him hated him for it, which is justified as well. He never had acknowledgment or any real respect, or love. Not even from his own father. And what did being a man of his word get him? It got him getting jumped by a bunch of people that he barely knew.

Soldier Boy: Was ignored and unloved as a kid.
Took an experimental drug to make his dad see his potential.
Was still called a disgrace and loser by the father.
Kept all the pain and guilt deep within himself while getting haughty and high on power.
Finally found a team and seemingly the love of his life in Crimson Countess.
Deep seated childhood trauma doesn't let him be worth anything and goes down a spiral of wasteful power.
Betrayed (rightfully in every sense) by the only "family" and his lover.
Put to painful tests and situations by the Russians.
Only to be freed by a team of Supe hating people.
Puts his trust in the team leader and promises to destroy his enemy No 1
Finds out the enemy is his own son.
Still is true to his words and goes on to fight his own blood for his promise
Gets betrayed by the new friend too.
Beats the living crap out of the team and everyone around and goes nuclear.
Survives and put to sleep again by the CIA.
    Still unloved and alone.

In some ways you have to feel for Soldier Boy. Everything he did was for the approval he desperately sought from his father. Taking the experimental Compound V to become a hero only to be told that he cheated. Than when he thought he found companions and the love of his life, they betrayed him. After all that he stuck to his word with complete strangers because he didn't want to disappoint them, only to still disappoint them. Every move, thing, word he did was to get approval and in the end he did nothing but....disappoint.

Soldier Boy deserved so much better than what he got. Especially considering he's probably immortal and clearly adapting quickly to modern times and how things have changed while he's been tortured and imprisoned. Poor guy was the ONLY honest person in the show. Every single other person in the show lied to and betrayed everyone else in the show at one point or another-but not Soldier Boy. Not even in any of the flashbacks. Always honest and true to himself and others. Definitely an asshole, but as an immortal man, those traits could've been trained out of him over time. In my opinion, Soldier Boy shows the other side of Captain America's confidence in his own morals. 'No, you move,' is often seen as an incredibly moral Stance... to not be shaken by the views of others and hold true to your convictions, but that carries as much weight as your convictions do.
Soldier Boy was himself to the very end, he stood by his own sense of right and wrong... stayed true to his word and refused to change for anyone. And that is what made him such a monster, incapable of change or redemption or any sense of improvement.
Because sometimes, the braver and more moral thing to do... is know when it is right to move. To know your way is not always the right way, and that the only wrong way is to never have that knowledge.

Thing is, while I agree with so much of your comment, he DIDN'T see through Homelander. The things he condemned and was willing to kill him over aren't Homelander's BAD traits. There's nothing wrong with being vulnerable, with wanting a parent to love and accept you, to be proud of you. Soldier Boy saw in Homelander the traits he hates about HIMSELF. His own father rejected him for wanting his approval and love, and he rejected Homelander. He did it because he's caught in a cycle of abuse and became his father, just like Butcher became his own father.

    • @9751matt
      @9751matt ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@BriarPatchNyra No, he realized the bad traits in himself and in Homelander. While he had a very old fashion mindset, he really didn't want to hurt innocent people and he didn't want more monsters. He recognized that Homelander was too far gone, that the cycle of abuse had been passed on to Homelander in his absence and his biological son had become a god complex monster.
His ideology towards not being feeble minded might seem cruel, but in his eyes, the feeblemindedness he hates is impulsive idiocy, villainy, and lack of integrity, and he knows he has these qualities as well, not just Homelander and the plan-sabotaging Butcher.
Homelander isn't a child, and while he is emotionally vulnerable, there's no saving his psychotic mind. His grandson was thrusted upon him, not enough time to process, and in the end he hoped his 'allies' had accounted for factors like Ryan so he could stop Homelander once and for all. Instead, the second he resisted Ryan's young but superhuman assault, "The Boys" went absolutely off the deep end and threw all their plans away just to hurt him.

I like how you edited this video. The first part highlights how badass but cruel and arrogant Soldier Boy is. But the second half shows the more vulnerable side of him. He’s an asshole, but he’s also another tragic figure with a glimmer of humanity in him. All he wanted when he was young was the approval of his father, but he never got it.

Soldier boy is one of the most incredible character. And it says story as well because he had his team betray him. He had the person he loved, betray him, and then to come back and realize he has a son who is a nightmare of a superhero, and he doesn’t know who to trust.
I think some of our war war vets can relate to a character like soldier boy, because it happens with Arman that serve are women that serve they come home after seeing all that trouble over the other countries and don’t know what to do I don’t know who to trust

Soldier Boy is a very interesting character. He is not really that much of a villain in this run. He may have been in the past but in this run he ends up being an antagonist that moves the narrative . his conversation with homelander shows self awareness , when homelander states that he is like him (soldier boy), the answer is that he knows , and that is a disappointment . Very likely he will have to be reactivated to prevent victoria and homelander to take political power and most likely both SB and homelander will kill one another in season 5 or so. it is also possible that he may be able to remove or neutralize the V from butcher since apparently that is what "the blast" does.
There is a small chance that he may even not die and just finish homelander and call it a day since from all that we see he does not appear to be particularly interested in being a vought hero ( he knows vought betrayed him) or have any sort of political domination ideas or objectives . Almost tempted to say the only thing he cares about is singing ;P

Kripke said that SB was kept alive for a specific reason (in the writer’s room).
My guess is to take out HL and possibly Neumann. But I think he has to go as well. However, I’m not sure anything can kill SB.
