It took me a long time to realize this coffee thing. I've drank coffee since I was 4, ok. But lately I'd pass and especially I only drank coffee after a meal on special occasions. But as I turned 43, my blood sugars really got messed up and I believe most Finns are diabetic without them knowing it. So when you eat, you get super tired and aren't able to work. So coffee actually helps your nervous system to turn that switch off in your brain and you feel OK even though your blood sugar levels are dropping and you should lay down. Also coffee is easier to make than tea and the caffeine drives away hunger too. Finnish people have always been poor. So when coffee became a commodity that even the poor could afford, they took it to their homes as a sign of wellness. It became customary to always prepare coffee for anyone who happened to pop by unannounced and so... we started drinking coffee all day long and that custom stuck even until today when nobody ever visits anybody anymore.

You have assimilated well into the Finnish culture, by the sound of it. I'm sure it was a culture shock at first. I'm Finnish, but have lived abroad for most of my life, however all the things you mentioned, are true for many Finns living abroad as well. How about SALMIAKKI, have you built a taste for salmiakki?

Thanks for the update. I can see that the things that define Finnish culture and lifestyle have not changed in Finland since I left fifty-five years ago.

Well, things can change and come back to about the same in half a decade!
For instance the average alcohol consumption per each 15 year or older person in Finland used to go up but has returned to about the same levels as in half a century ago.
Some things always change and still can be the same. Just think about the fashion and the length of skirts. It's kind of classical example, which isn't so perfectly true nowadays as there are so many trends going on that everything seems to be fashionable in some niche.

Sausage is a old way to make meat and other ingredients to stay editable for longer. It is also handy in that sense that you can make so many different kinds of sausages and eat it cold, hot or with anything or without anything else.
    Easy snacks in that sense.
And when you have become used to warm up sausage in sauna or at a camping fire and enjoy it it nice circumstances, it becomes also comfort food.

    • @FinnishImmigrationLawTV
      @FinnishImmigrationLawTV  ปีที่แล้ว

Yes we love warming up our sausages same time as we are having sauna. After sauna then we can enjoy the sausages. Always good. 😊👍🏽

Well there is at least one thing missing. If you think that you have plate and there you have sausage, potatoes, mustard and bread. What very finnish thing you have forgotten?! Milk! We (mostly) drink milk in every meal. Milk consuption is about one liter in a day per capita.
This is sure common in Nordic countries as well, but i still think finns propably are the most insane milk drinkers in the world 😁.
And in sommertime the holy trinity is to grill that sausage, eat it with mustard and flush it down with beer. Also almost anything that is made in outside in grill or in bonfire you can flush it down with beer.
Beer is also the main alcohol what people drink here. If you go to any bar and look around over 50% of beverages you see in tables or at people are beer. Of course Lonkero is popular and sometimes people take some Lonkero, cider, shots, wine or other drinks, but beer is the thing mostly.
And then there is of course salmiakki 😁! I can guarantee that if there would be salmiakki toothpaste, salmiakki shampoo, salmiakki soap and salmiakki bodyspray people would buy those 😂.

Milk also makes Finns sick. I wish they'd put some kind of tax for dairy products. Especially those sugar youghurts... eeww..

And just a smell of coffee and I can't sleep for 3 days. I'm very sensitive to it. That's good to know how much Finnish people love coffee lol

I have a love hate relationship with coffee. Sometimes I take it, sometimes I don’t. But whenever I take it I always go for lattes. I hardly take regular coffee. In fact last time I did was in Nigeria many years ago. I’m naturally a tea person.

      A tea person... Hmm.
I used to date a tea person long long time ago as a student.
I even tried to drink tea for about a year.
Such a sacrifice from my part ☺️
I survived. I only got temporary stomach problems, no permanent damage. Well, perhaps some mental..
Tea drinkers exist also in Finland. They are everywhere.
They are mostly harmless, if you can avoid falling in love.😉

Dont ask for things if you dont mean it 😅
You might just throw away that hey lets meet for a coffee sometime! To you it might mean nothing, but now this poor Finn is contemplating about how this will go on. Should they call you? Or wait for you to call them? Dont put Finns in misery 😂

Talvella kylmässä kuuma kaakao on ollut erittäin suosittua myös Suomessa etenkin talvilajien yleisön joukossa.
Ilmeinen johtopäätelmä on siis että Nigeria on kylmä maa. Eikö?

First time I hear about a city called Nigeria. I have only known about the country, officially the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Is there actually also a city or town with the same name?
      I couldn't find it.
