- I thought it was time to learn Finnish like the best language learners in the world - babies. I got a 'baby book' and asked Cat to help me learn some Finnish!

The important thing is to remember that in finnish, you emphasize the first part of the word. For example, instead of having the "weight" of the word in the middle like you said in the police part (poLIIsi), you emphasize the first part (POliisi). The same goes to basically every word in the finnish language!

Yes, it's called the intonation! It's simple in Finnish! :) intonation always at the beginning of the word!

Suomi mainittu, torilla tavataan! Mukava seurata edistymistäsi :) Inflections and suffixes may seem like a pain but there's a method in that madness :D and that's why we have a lot fewer root words to learn. So many words are derived. For examples:
kirjain - a letter (of alphabet)
kirje - a letter (of mail kind)
kirja - a book
kirjasto - a library
kirjoittaa - to write
kirjailija - an author
kirjata - to keep record
kirjasin - a font
kirjuri - a scribe
kirjoitus - a scripture
etc.
*runs away and never looks back*

I'm from West London originally. It takes a while to get a grip Just use Finnish as much as you can and don't be put off! It's funny most (young) Finns will answer me in English anyway when I speak Finnish, they have a knack for knowing your accent is foreign :) If it's any consolation Swedish is still as foreign to me as the day I arrived here. Sorry Cat :)

I like this type of learning finnish videos! I find it entertaining but also useful for you. I like how the words and sentences were ones that you can actually use when you’re in Finland. Also acting out a scene with Cat made this video fun and 10 minutes went reallu quickly. I would love to see more of this ☺️

Has anyone ever showed you a list of finnish grammitical cases (the endings to words like -ssa, -lla, -aan, etc.)? I think it could help you understand why and how words change as they do. 😊

I loved this :lol:. I have to say that I have thought that this might be a good route to restart my Finnish language studies i.e. getting some childrens books and learning from the ground up, so to speak :).

You need to tell Cat that she can help you. Just wright words on a tape and put it on the stuf. Like you wrigth "OVI" and put it on the door or wright "LAUTANEN" and put it on the plate 😁 Name everything in your home so you learn words every day 😚
