    I used to live on the economy (I was single Military) in a German Apartment (I was the only American in the building) and loved it. My landlord and wife were very nice to me and I just loved living there. My apartment was almost the same as yours and it is very true about making a lot of noise as you come in the front door. That was the first thing they told me when I went to look at the apartment. I lived at my apartment for 4 yrs and had the best time of my life living there ( city I lived in was Fulda). Funny thing is, that when they found out where I was original from (Hawai'i), they were so talkative and aske me all kinds of questions about Hawai'i. I even used to grill out and cooked a lot of foods from home and they just loved it. Hope you enjoy your time there, I know I kinda miss it myself...lol. Much Aloha 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙

    The glass door is normally on the living room door to allow some light into the hall/entryway which has no windows of its own. I think they got swapped. Very nice apartment.

  • @arnodr5804
    @arnodr5804 3 ปีที่แล้ว +59

    Wow, 750 for this! That's a steal for Berlin, especially Mitte. Very nice space. It would say good luck.
    Btw: about the "Zentralheizung". I don't think it's free energy. Because it's a shared system, one you share with all the apartments in the building and in the end you pay are shared fee in the "warmmiete". 🙈

    • @ExpatCaptures
      @ExpatCaptures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks so much Arno!! But as far as I understand, the ‘shared fee’ is only for other services like heating outside in the foyer, rubbish removal, elevator maintenance, cleaning, etc., not the heating that you have control of in the apartment. That would be extremely unfair to a single person having to pay for heating in complex with another apartment holding four people.

    • @arnodr5804
      @arnodr5804 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ExpatCaptures My bad, didn't have a proper look. On the radiators are these heat allocator, these for calculate the useage/consumption. Well good luck and hope we don't need the heathing anymore with better weather coming up.

    • @ExpatCaptures
      @ExpatCaptures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Can’t wait for the better weather!!!

    • @ninajurgens735
      @ninajurgens735 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ExpatCaptures Actually if you have a regular rental contract and not subleting that's kinda how it works. The warmmiete includes an estimated amount of money that will be used for heating based on what the tentant bevor you used to pay. When you get you "Nebenkostenabrechnung" that is when it will be "really" calculated the first time. The amount they will charge you for heating is made up of 50% your own consumption and 50% of what all tenants have used, broken down to one part for each tentant based on the square meters of your flat. After your first "Nebenkostenabrechnung" they will look at what amount of money you have paid with the rent already and if its to much or not enough you will need to pay / get the difference and you monthly rent will go up or down accordingly. So with centralheating "free" means you don't need to pay money in addition to your rent, since it is included in your "warm Miete" but you are still paying for it in the end.

    • @Psi-Storm
      @Psi-Storm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ninajurgens735 Yes the split in the heating cost is needed to compensate for good and bad apartments. An inner apartment needs much less heat than one on the outer side with 3 outer walls. The people on the upper floors get free heat from the apartments below too. The heating donated in the not insulated pipes would just get split between all tenets.

      It's not Wedding but since it's where I live and for privacy's sake, I prefer to make it a little harder to find for the majority of viewers. If you've seen the walls and front door though, I suppose it's not that hard to find out, if you're familiar with the area 🙂
      Though, you're right. Wedding is usually a very affordable neighbourhood compared to some other areas!

    Hi! Thank you for creating this video, it was very well received! I was wondering what are your thoughts on renting prices around Kurfürstendamm and Nollendorfplatz and also what do you think about these places in Berlin?

    • @ExpatCaptures
      @ExpatCaptures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marius, appreciate the nice comment! I think Kudamm and Nollendorfplatz are great locations, especially if you work around the western area of the city. Apartments there will most likely be more on the pricier side. If you really love that part of the city, then it might be worth the price! It’s probably not as self-sufficient as other places in the city, meaning if you want a selection of close-in-proximity supermarkets, pharmacies, local restaurants, markets, etc. things might be a little harder in comparison to districts like Prenzlauer Berg/Neukölln/Steglitz, etc., due to it naturally being more popular and somewhat more busy with tourists. Hope it helps?

    normal at least in Hessen is the washing machine in the basement, only in really new apartments you have it in the bathroom, which is common in the rest of Europe.
    I think the storage area in the entrance is meant for shoes.

      It depends on who the landlord is. Publicly rented placed through "Wohnungsbaugesellschaften" and "Wohnungsbaugenossenschaften" are much cheaper than trough private landlords and investors. Also, it makes a huge difference whether the place is being rented furnished or not. To me this sounds reasonably prized for Berlin. It's more a matter of being lucky and actually finding and getting the place.
