    I remember the days before Topher had a name face or voice, in the early WR days. All I knew was that the guy with the nice watch and wiry arms ALWAYS filmed and drove the cars with the same passion that I drove my Mini cooper everywhere.. So glad he’s being recognized finally. It’s funny because the Topher and WR magazine set the groundwork for youtube POV drives: Put the focus on the sights and sounds the car makes FIRST. THEN talk about the things we can’t see or hear, lastly give your thoughts. No bs straight to the point. Favorite channel on youtube.

    As a Type R owner I agree with pretty much everything stated in this video. Went initially for something else, a bit more pricey, then wound up with the CTR and have zero regrets. As @TheTopher said this thing does it all. Super easy to be obsessed with, even the styling is growing on me. Would highly recommend for anyone who wants a great all rounder. I've not yet had any heating issues when pushing it hard, but I've only really pushed it hard in OCT as I purchased late SEP. @TheTopher, great review and content as always keep it up.

    The more time we spend with my wife’s 2019 Type R, the more we love it. The car continues to amaze me, just blows my mind at how good it is. The styling really grows on you over time as well. We did immediately go to a set of 18” Enkei wheels with pilot sport 4s tires, which was a huge improvement in daily driving comfort over the OEM clown car wheels.

      Kevin, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. That will depends on what kind of driver you are and what your lifestyle is. I personally go with the Type R. I bought a 2019 CW and its the best sports car I've owned. I also have a 2015 Evolution X FE for winter use. But the Type R is handling the rain and snow pretty good at least from my experience. Its a Hatchback so its really good all around car. Goodluck with your choice bro.

      The Type R is over 400# lighter than the STI with the same power and a much wider power band, plus it offers the practicality of a hatch and vastly better fuel economy. Basically the only thing the STI has going for it is AWD for winter.

    If a person who drives a HC Type R (or a FWD in general) and complains about snow/ice traction: the problem isn't the car, it's the driver.
    RWD, FWD, AWD, 4WD are all capable of typical snow/ice traction, given the right set of tire(s) & driving skills, in suburban/city where city/state road services are provided. The exceptions to AWD and 4WD are the areas of a state or county that don't have typical city/state road service(s).

    My only complaint with the type R is how the tires kick up rocks. You can hear the rocks in this video. Swapping tires are a must unless you absolutely need all that grip on the stock tires.
    Seats take some time to break in to your back size. At first it was a little tight. Overall good daily driver. I get compliments everywhere I park it. Gas stations, where ever.

    You had me sold on it until I started seeing that traction light blinking. It was going off as soon as you started pushing it hard into the turns and off the line. There is no question that this a fantastic FWD, probably the best ever made. However after I have owned RWD and AWD it's just difficult for me to go back to that FWD feeling.

    Gotta put it in +R, from what I've noticed the boost is way more active and will have higher psi, love the stiffened ride and the steering, I got my 2020 with 9 miles on it im around 5k now and ya notice these things. Drive it in comfort mode and watch the boost than switch to +R Mode and the differences will be quite obvious.

    I owned a 2020 Type R this summer - I have a gear grind video on my channel if you don't believe me - I agree with most of what is discussed but there are a concerns:
    1. Transmission - huge disappointment, had the 1-2 grind and also a 5-4 lockout. Other 2020 owners are having similar problems. Shift feel is good but inconsistent and a bit plasticky. Had a Miata previously it had superior shift feel and no issues.
    2. Head unit and sound system - Awful, no bass or power and the head unit is slow and crashes often.
    3. Stock tires - my front stock tires were at 4/32 after 6000km/3700 miles.
    4. Its roomy but it's its not a "small" car - Compared to a buddy's Mk7 GTI it's noticeably bigger.

      2020 owner here and I haven’t had the 1-2 grind but I have the 5-4 lockout pretty often when I drive and it’s super annoying. As for the sound system I have to agree with you there, it’s absolutely terrible.. for a car this expensive I expected it to at least be better than my 2010 civic. Lol

    • @joshdh4795
      @joshdh4795 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jonnnn_5 Yea the 5-4 was super annoying, you never know when it was gonna lock you out. I was able to solve it by switching to GM Synchromesh friction modified fluid. Fixed the lockout but the 5-4 shift was still a bit grumpy sometimes. I started getting the 1-2 grind after 5000km and started to get it more often so I ended up selling the car. Got over MSRP for it with 6000km on it. The trans really took the fun out of it.
