      @@tony1685 Yes, of course we believe John 14:15. The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus and has the Spirit of Truth as promised by Jesus. The Catholic Church understands the Spirit of the Commandments and the Church teaches them more perfectly. You're hung up on a Saturday Sabbath day. Don't kid yourself. • @GardenMinistry.
      @GardenMinistry. ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@tony1685 you must be 7th day Adventist or a Jew?
      According to 2 Thess 2:15 there are many traditions that have been passed down by word of mouth by the Apostles, and the Sabbath celebration to Sunday is one. John 21:25 tells us that not everything has been recorded in scripture, so we go by both scripture and liturgical tradition passed on by the Apostles and their disciples that followed.
      We do not worship on the Sabbath, which according to Jewish law is the last day of the week (Saturday), when God rested from all the work he had done in creation (Gen. 2:2-3). Catholics worship on the Lord’s Day, the first day of the week (Sunday, the eighth day); the day when God said “Let there be light” (Gen. 1:3); the day when Christ rose from the dead; the day when the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles (Day of Pentecost). The Catechism of the Catholic Church says: “The Church celebrates the day of Christ’s Resurrection on the ‘eighth day,’ Sunday, which is rightly called the Lord’s Day” (CCC 2191).
      The Sabbath, which represented the completion of the first creation, has been replaced by Sunday, which recalls the new creation inaugurated by the Resurrection of Christ” (CCC 2190). Sunday is the day Christians are bound to keep, not Saturday.
      We see evidence of this in Scripture:
      On the first day of the week when we gathered to break bread (The Holy Eucharist) Paul spoke to them because he was going to leave on the next day, and he kept on speaking until midnight (Acts 20:7).
      On the first day of the week each of you should set aside and save whatever one can afford, so that collections will not be going on when I come (1 Cor. 16:2).
      Let no one, then, pass judgment on you in matters of food and drink or with regard to a festival or new moon or Sabbath (Col. 2:16).
      The Catechism also says:
      By tradition handed down from the apostles which took its origin from the very day of Christ’s Resurrection, the Church celebrates the Paschal mystery, which day is appropriately called the Lord’s Day or Sunday. The day of Christ’s Resurrection is both the first day of the week, the memorial of the first day of creation, and the “eighth day,” on which Christ after his “rest” on the great Sabbath inaugurates the “day that the Lord has made,” the “day that knows no evening.” (CCC 1166)
      And personally, I know Catholics that celebrate more than just on Sunday. If you look at our liturgical calendar, it is jam packed with celebrations on everyday of the week. Things like novenas, Liturgy of the hours, Adoration, and Mass happen constantly, every day, at all hours. That's how great our faith is. You can't get caught up on this Sabbath day thing, what you need to do is have a daily devotion to God, all the time, not just one day.

      _"...there are many traditions that have been passed down by word of mouth by the Apostles..."_
      The "apostles" are fictional characters created by Paul.
      The Jesus story began in 48 AD with the first of the Pauline Epistles (which comprise nearly half of the New Testament books) when Paul realized the Daniel 9:25 prophesy of a messiah expired without fulfilling so he made one up decades later and set the story decades in the past to make the prophesy seem true.
      The fulfillment of the Daniel 9:25 prophecy written in 444 BC was the test of the true messiah. By 48 AD it was known that the prophecy of a messiah coming in "seven weeks and threescore and two weeks" had not occurred on the prophesied date.
      "Seven weeks and threescore and two weeks" is, 7 plus 60 plus 2 equals 69 total weeks. One prophetic week equals seven biblical years of 360 days (the Julian calendar was created centuries later), so 7 times 69 equals 483 total biblical years beginning with Artaxerxes' decree in 444 BC. Those 483 biblical years equal 173,880 days, or 476 Julian years. Therefore the Messiah would come and be "cut off" in AD 33. One prophetic week equaling seven Biblical years is something “Daniel” invented in about 165 BC, effectively an admission that Jeremiah 25:11-12 failed.
      Paul made up the entire Jesus story and added historical figures, locations, and events to add authenticity.
      Paul's goal was to garner support for the insurrection against the Romans which began in 46 AD led by two brothers, Jacob and Simon, in the Judea province. The revolt, mainly in the Galilee, began as sporadic insurgency until it climaxed in 48 AD when it was quickly put down by Roman authorities. Both Simon and Jacob were executed.
      He created the fiction of having witnessed the risen messiah. He wanted to show that the messiah had come as prophesied but was murdered by the Romans. This was to entice the Gentiles to aid in the Jews' rebellion against the Romans.
      Instead, he created one of the world's most popular religions that is based on the literal worship of ritual human sacrifice, rape, and cannibalism.
      The Gospel authors copied, and embellished, Paul's fiction. None of the Gospel authors, or any other writers, were witnesses to the Bible figure known as Jesus.

    My wife and I are some of the very few Catholics that can say we were married outside. Our wedding was scheduled for May 9, 2020 and we were forced to postpone it a month or so before the date for China virus reasons. We rescheduled for August 28, 2020 in conjunction with our parish to have the ceremony in the courtyard next to the church. Even if things calmed down with the pandemic, we still would have had to have the ceremony outside because the parish decided to do a construction project inside during the time when mass was not regularly being celebrated there. Needless to say, I was mad that we couldn't even pop in for a few minutes and take pictures because of the construction. Aside from all the noisy cars driving by, it was very nice and definitely a unique story we have to tell.

      Whether a certain procedure respects the dignity of the person hinges heavily on the consent of that person. A brain dead person cannot give consent unless it were conditionally certified prior to brain death.
      Consider the narrative hero who is injured beyond saving and turns to his comrades and says, "go on without me" in an effort to save them. He knows his death is imminent and so wants some good (friends escaping safely) to come of it. His friends being the good guys wouldn't leave him without his insistent and genuine consent.
      I think there is a good place to draw the line between his friends leaving him behind with the near certainty his death will come about and his friends shooting him to death before leaving.
      Does the procedure being conducted kill the person or is it simply likely to kill the person? These are risks which can only be judged by the individuals who take them on. The ability to make choices for one self and the basis of those choices are part of human dignity. Remember that Jesus went to the cross willingly--meaning that the self sacrifice of life is absolutely permissible for the cause of good.

      A 'brain dead' person is not actually dead. It is a term that was made-up for organ transplanting. An organ from a dead person is not as good as an organ from someone whose blood is still circulating. So they created the term "brain dead" to justify taking organs from people who are still alive. There have been plenty of instances where a person was declared brain dead and then "woke up" from it. Simple answer? Catholics should not consider them dead because they are not dead.

      I wasn't referring to 'woman'. I was referring to the number of woman who are named 'Mary'.
      Such as
      Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother (Mary) and her sister, as well as Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene
      PolyMary. Many Marys.
      As for 'woman' referring to Mary... or some other woman, I think this can be known by the context.
      Such as
      He said to His mother, “Woman, here is your son.
      "His mother" kind of gives away who this 'woman' is.
      When a person is addressed as "woman"
      Matthew 15:28
      Luke 22:57
      John 2:4
      John 2:4
      John 8:10 the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. - ----“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” The 'caught in adultery' gives away that this is NOT His mother.

    I cut out Disney years ago because of the way they had their actors say "long live evil" during their commercial breaks while promoting Descendents 2. I was so mad when every one ignored this. TV was completely banished for years after that. Just DVDs. But then when my baby was turning 6, she HAD to have a Frozen DVD. I don't even know where or how she seen any part of that movie. Then came Roku that gave me the impression that we can choose what we want and paying for a $10-15/ month subscription would mean no commercials. Then I relented completely on the Disney ban when the Hulu, Disney, ESPN deal came out. I only allow them to watch what I approve of and I mostly agree with Trent that if we're going to ban 1, we should be consistent and ban everything. We'd have to become hermits and live off the land then. On the other hand, after watching Hulu the other day for the first time in a year, I'll for sure be canceling this subscription soon. A subscription doesn't stop commercials and they are really pushing that "woke" garbage out.

      _"Issues with the left: Abortion, Gay marriage (LGBTQ issues)."_
      Issues with Christianity: human sacrifice, rap, and cannibalism.
      I condemn ritual human sacrifice, rape, and cannibalism; Christians literally worship them and their savior is a zombie (an undead corporeal revenant created through the reanimation of a corpse).
      Ritual Human Sacrifice-
      God sent one of his sons to be tortured and killed as a sacrificial offering (a practice adopted from Paganism).
      Christians worship a father who sent one of his sons to be tortured and executed (and literally called it as a sacrifice) as part of a ritual intended to appease a god (in Christian theology, atonement refers to the forgiving or pardoning of sin through the death by crucifixion of Jesus).
      John 3:16
      "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son."
      1 John 4:10
      "This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."
      Romans 8:32
      "He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all."
      1 Corinthians 5:7
      "Christ our passover is sacrificed for us."
      Romans 3:25
      "God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement."
      Philippians 2:8
      "Christ was humble. He obeyed God and even died on a cross."
      Galatians 1:4
      "Christ obeyed God our Father and gave himself as a sacrifice for our sins to rescue us from this evil world."
      Romans 5:8
      "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."
      Hebrews 10:10
      "We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."
      ~~~~~~~~~~~
      Rape-
      God raped ("overshadowed") Mary while she was engaged to Joseph and while God was married to Asherah, Aholah and Aholibah (who were sisters). God's sons also "ravished" human females and impregnated them.
      God sent one of his representatives to tell Mary (who was between ages 12 and 14 at the time), that even though she was engaged to Joseph and frightened by the encounter, that God would impregnate her. A child cannot consent to pregnancy by an authority figure.
      The Bible uses the word "overshadow", which is the Greek word, "επισκιάζω" (episkiazó). Some Christians interpret "overshadow" to mean that some sort of mystical cloud or divine wind hovered over Mary and then she became pregnant. But the literal translation of the word is, "to overshadow, to use influence upon by a looming presence (skiá)" and figuratively means "to invest with preternatural (extraordinary, exceeding what is normal) influence". So, the "overshadowing" was God using what the Bible describes as the "extraordinary" coercion of his greater power and status to dominate and overpower Mary's desires and will by forcing his own desire to force unwanted sexual contact from frightened Mary with the intent of impregnating her.
      The word Mary uses to accept the command to be impregnated is "ginomai", which means "let it not be, far be it from, God forbid".
      In Mary's praise and thanksgiving to God in Luke 1:48 she says, “God has lifted up his humble maidservant.” The Greek word for “humble” is the same one that the Septuagint (the old Greek version of the Hebrew Bible) uses to describe the rape of Dinah in Genesis and other incidents of sexual violation.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~
      Cannibalism is an integral part of Christianity-
      John 6:53
      "Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever gnaws my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a difficult and harsh and offensive statement. Who can accept it?" From this time, many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him."

    Re: Christ being the cornerstone vs Peter being the rock.
    In Ephesians 2:19-22, Pauls states: "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit." (NIV) (Note: the letters of Peter also take up the idea of people being stones in the edifice of the Church)
    Here, Paul clearly talks about the apostles and prophets being foundations (ie rocks) while at the same time describing Christ as the cornerstone. This passage does not denote anything special about Peter, but along with Peter's letters, it clearly shows how the early Christians saw no competition between Christ being the cornerstone and others also being stones upon which the church is built. Thus, there is clearly no contradiction between Peter being the Rock in Matthew and Christ being the cornerstone in Acts. (Note: Pauls is writing before the publication of the Gospels, so "the apostles and prophets" cannot be interpreted to mean "the writings of the apostles and prophets" rather than the people themselves)

    "My kingdom is not of this world... etc"
    "Render unto Caesar... etc"
    Secondly, people seem to get really wrapped up in thinking that they have to *like* a certain politician or party. Politics is about people getting along in their public lives with others whom they disagree with, and in large part that means compromise, otherwise nothing gets done. Here's the shocker - NO ONE likes compromise. Likeability, especially for a person or people whom you've never met in person, should be way down the list for political considerations.
    Thirdly, any politician can lead people where they want to go. A good politician must be able to lead people where they do NOT wish to go when it is nevertheless right to do so. Ergo, solid moral fortitude and a firm grasp of necessary principles is a chief requirement for sound leadership, far more so than likeability. Hence faith in the divine, because that is the source of virtues. We humans can be good but we're not perfect. This is why a politician's religion matters - but that's just the bare minimum.

      Trent will commonly give credence to both ideas that “brother and sisters” refers to extended family members and that Joseph had children in a previous marriage. I think Joseph’s previous marriage is by far the weakest argument Trent makes. I think there’s is more biblical evidence to justify dismissing that idea than there is non-biblical evidence to justify adopting it. The strangest part to me is that it doesn’t actually accomplish anything. There is no benefit to holding the view that Joseph had other children. And to David F’s point, 3 out of the 4 men named as Jesus’ brothers can be traced back to being children of the other Mary and Cleopas (Joseph’s brother?).

    • @turkey3gwiddle
      @turkey3gwiddle ปีที่แล้ว +5

      From what I've heard of him speak, I think I have an idea.
      So the normal argument of a 10 year old pregnant girl in support of abortion is this, I believe:
      1) If a female is pregnant and is expected to endure a tremendous amount of suffering as a result of continuing with the pregnancy, then it is permissible for the pregnant female to deliberately end the pregnancy prematurely.
      2) A 10 year old girl who claims she will endure a tremendous amount of suffering as a result of continuing with her pregnancy is expected to endure a tremendous amount of suffering as a result of continuing with the pregnancy.
      C) Therefore, a 10 year old girl who claims she will endure a tremendous amount of suffering as a result of continuing with her pregnancy is permitted to deliberately end the pregnancy prematurely.
      How to argue against this? The argument against this would go back to what Trent always harkens to: what are the unborn? If the unborn are, indeed, human persons, then the argument will not work and I will try to show why. This all hinges on an unborn child being a human person. equivalence
      0) To deliberately end a pregnancy is to deliberately kill the human person in the female.
      Now with premise 0 in place, we can substitute the language into premise 1 and create premise 4 by mathematical equivalence:
      4) If a female is pregnant and is expected to endure a tremendous amount of suffering as a result of continuing with the pregnancy, then it is permissible for the pregnant female to deliberately kill the human person in the female.
      We now can reach a new conclusion:
      C) A 10 year old girl who claims she will endure a tremendous amount of suffering as a result of continuing with her pregnancy is permitted to deliberately kill the human person inside of her.
      The argument against this logic is to consider the scenario where the child is *already* born, and the 10-year-old mother is expected to suffer a tremendous amount of suffering as a result of the continuation of the child's *born* existence.
      You may ask: why would this ever be the case? Just because this would not be as common of a case does not discredit the relational argument. Perhaps the mere thought of her having a child out there who she can't take proper care of is torture to her, and only if the child is killed will she find relief.
      The main point is that IF there was some hypothetical situation where a 10-year-old girl who has already given birth to a child is expected to suffer a tremendous amount *unless* that child's life is deliberately ended prematurely, I think everybody would agree it is *wrong* to end that child's life. It doesn't matter if it's going to relieve the 10-year-old girl of a bunch of stress: this is an innocent human person with a right to life, and nobody has the right to end it.
      So the question is: why does it make it any different if the child is inside of the woman or already born?
      So the reason that a 10-year-old girl should have to give birth is *because* it is wrong to kill an innocent human person in order to try to relieve the suffering of some other human person. If we go by the logic that a pregnant 10-year-old should be able to kill the child inside of her to relieve her suffering, it follows that she should be able to kill the child once it is outside of her. Otherwise, people who argue for abortion will have to explain what change happened that would make the first permissible and the second impermissible.

Remember our version of Liberal vs Conservative ...Left vs Right is skewed because of the political parties. Since we based our government in part from the English parliament....back then left vs right meant where you sat in parliament. Also Classic Liberalism is very different from the Liberals we speak of today. Again if we take all the major teachings of the Church and Jesus and where they stand ie do a chart Abortion...no sanctity of life at all stages, traditional marriage between a man and woman etc and then compare with the party platforms and candidates you will find one party aligns better with Church teaching and that would be Republican...but still not a perfect fit because they would compromise with having abortion for example in cases of incest, rape etc where the Church says no....but it is the greater good better choice lesser of evils than choosing Democrats which promote up to and even after birth...look at NY....so choice is clear for now.

You would also be more in line with historical beliefs by being totally anti-immigration, which would preserve nations, than open-borders. The point of allowing immigration to palliate problems like poverty and persecutions does not require abortion. You can work to help diminish those problems without mass immigration. Mass immigration with democracy and the modern welfare state always destroys the host nation. Historically Catholicism denigrated democracy, such large state bureaucracies and gratuitous welfare and for good reason

    Hey everyone, Trent is right. Jesus' brothers and sisters described in the Gospel as 'Your brothers and sisters are outside' must be Jesus'brothers and sisters through Joseph's previous marriage. Remember that Mary was conceived (the word is conceived) by the Holy Spirit, as the Bible says. God would not fuse His seed with the seed of Mary if she had original sin in her. He could have just 'formed' Himself in her otherwise. And this is why she is the spouse of the Holy Spirit and Mother of God - and it is blasphemous for Joseph to then know her.
    As for the Bible calling someone a brother or sister refer to John 19:25. You will see that that the third Mary is referred to as the sister of Mary. Even if you believe that two sisters can be named Mary, cross reference it (John 19:25) with Mathew 27:56 and you will see that that other Mary is now described as being the mother of James and Joses.
    By the way, I think this third Mary is Mother Mary's cousin's (Clopas') wife which is why she is referred to as a sister, meaning the wife of a cousin - but this last argument does not even have to be made to prove that the third Mary was not Mother Mary's real sister. It's enough that she is shown to be the mother of someone else (James and Joses).
    Lastly, yes the Bible, and even the New Testament, does use the word cousin, but it also uses the words brother and sister to not refer to a real brother and sister.
    God bless us all.
