What a time to be a alive. Intel fanboys are called 🐑 while amd and m1 users are practical users. AMD in 2021 will flatten intel with their higher end cpus along with m1.
When he reached OMEN and he said S tier without hesitation, i jumped in happiness! Feels good to have him recognize as it was a product i was sent to as well. Awesomely well made, HP.
I’m a G14 owner. I bought the thing a couple of months ago and I had a bunch of issues in the beginning with the drivers and the thermals and even the sound. But I knew that there was a subreddit for this laptop, as it was mentioned in every TH-cam review. So, once I went there and followed their instructions for all the improvements, I was amazed. The improvements were major and the laptop just turned into this beast. I’m pretty happy with it at the moment, there are some minor issues still but that exists with every laptop. I would still recommend buying it at a sale and not at retail price, since I got it at a sale and I believe there are other options at full price. No webcam though, so keep that in mind.
Well, I'm in love with this G14. And, kinda expecting Asus to always improving and developing this type year by year. Might wanna stick in this G14 generation tho :D
How's the battery life of HP Omen? It's one of my choices in buying a new laptop. I've been reading reviews online and battery life is one of its cons, so I'm kinda torn now.
@@sanctuary1718 My battery life on Witcher 3(max fans) was 1hr40mins and it lasted around 5 hours watching zack Snyder's justice league(full brightness) + some casual surfing afterwards. The battery life would probably have been greater if I hadn't kept the dedicated gpu always switched on. I don't think the battery life is in any way limiting considering it's a very powerful machine and is built for raw power+thermal stability in mind.

@@AngelSanchez-ge9og this is why the a15 is absolutely dog shit. People jump to the conclusion "wow 2060 and ryzen 7 for 800$? Take my money!!!" When they don't realize the thermals literally make the machine not even a consideration (that plus the shitty screen build quality and the fact that the 2060 is only an 80w)
Taking into account what you considered as "S Tier", I would argue that the Legion 5 also fits the bill. Here are a few reasons why: - It has the best screen response time out of all the Ryzen based laptops. Actually, it has the best display out of all the 144Hz laptops, in terms of response time. - You can enable/disable optimus and overdrive right from the Vantage software, and it also allows you to overclock the GPU. - The RTX 2060 version is the 115W one, so better than the RP 15 even with EluktroBoost, and at least it has the webcam on top. - The air exhausts are on the back and the sides, so you can also game on it with the lid closed, which I know you appreciate @Dave Lee
When the B tier row almost filled out on the table, I was thinking... “Dave, what are you gonna do now?, You did it yourself. You did it yourself, Dave!” But then... well, it expanded.

Not quite the same. He gets them temporarily to review. Just like if you work at a car yard you are likely to end up driving most of the cars on the lot a little bit. Not the same as owning them. Also, if your refresh rate is up to seven years, that's a very long time. Most computer systems are designed for a four to five year cycle. When you first buy a decent name brand unit, it's potential for critical failure is measured to an average of once every three years. Once you get to the four year mark, the average likelihood of time between critical failures is measure to be likely within three or four months.
Dave, this was so enjoyable to watch and see your thought process as you ranked each laptop. Please do more of these in the future! the extra long video is also nice :)
I literally just watched a Jarrod'sTech comparison between the Legion 5 and the Omen and the Legion absolutely crushed the Omen, so I was really surprised by your rating.
Maybe that’s more of a comparison to other Omens,he’s comparing this year’s Omen with the previous year ones. So the difference is much higher and he put that on S tier.On the other hand, previous model of this year’s legions,Y540 and Y740 were good too. So compared with this year’s legions, its not much of a difference. I’m not saying this year’s legions are bad. Im just guessing what Dave did right there.

I purchased the G14 after having watched your review when it was released. And oh man what a laptop it is. It does everything I need it to do. It's just something with the form factor and the build quality that does it for me. It works as an awesome development machine (Except that Linux has a bunch of problems on it) and it runs most games super smoothly. I travel a lot and it's honestly a lifesaver when on the road. Thanks a lot for the great content Dave! Happy Holidays!
well I bought the base model MSI GS66 because of your review, my first step into PC gaming during the thick of lockdown and it's still absolutely amazing, even with a RTX 2060, runs cyberpunk perfectly fine.
I ordered mine last week for in store pickup. Was either going to keep my Dell G3 or return it and pickup the G14. After this video, I think I’m going to go pickup the G14.
@@nehal0730 It is. But let me give you a quick insight on how I use the laptop. I'm a dev that needs a computer that 1. can be hooked to two external monitors (one ultra-wide with G-Sync 2650x1080 and one 1920x1080), 2. can run games at 2650x1080 resolution with good FPS 3. is not loud when I do simple stuff like browsing or watching youtube 4. can be hooked to a 65w USB-C when travelling 5. is just portable The 2020 Razer Blade Advanced had the following config: i7-10875, RTX 2070 Super Max-Q, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, price $3299 CAD + tax The G14 has the following config: Ryzen 4900HS, RTX 2060 Max-Q, 16GB RAM, 1GB SSD, price $2499 CAD + tax. Pros and Cons for each of the needs I mentioned above. 1. Both can be hooked to the external monitors easily. There weren't any issues with that. 2. The Razer could run the games a little better since it has a better GPU. However, I was very surprised to see that on max settings the benchmark in Far Cry 5 was giving me almost the same results on my external monitor. If I remember correctly the Razer was giving me on avg 72FPS and the G14 68FPS. It turns out that Asus did some kind of a better integration of the GPU (don't know how, I've read it somewhere.. I'm sure you can find the info about that.). It also uses less power. I've ran the RDR2 as well. Can't say that the game setup and FPS was very different between the Razer and the G14. 3. I think this was the decisive factor for me to return the Razer. The Razer was using the fans even when I was browsing the internet and watching youtube. The worst part about it, the GPU fan even on low revs was making a high pitched sound that was driving me crazy. The G14 also uses the fan when browsing but it is barely noticed. It is not as loud and doesn't have the crazy high pitched sound. After googling it for a bit, I found out that this is a usual issue for the Blade. The fans just make this kind of sound. 4. I didn't try hooking the G14 to a USB C 65W adapter, however it is advertised by Asus that the G14 can take it. I tried hooking up the Razer to the 65W 20V USB C adapter from Lenovo. It was working fine, the battery was charging, however I was worrying because the original Razer's adapter has an output of 19.5V, and I couldn't find a USB C adapter with the output of 19.5V. I wrote to Razer and asked them about this, they said that I should use the original adapter otherwise I can damage my battery... so much for portability. 5. The Razer is made of an aluminum uni-body, while G14 is made of a magnesium alloy which makes the G14 lighter. Also the G14 adapter is smaller than the Razer's one. When reading or doing some browsing I like unplugging the G14 and taking it with me on the couch... barely noticing I have a computer on my lap lol. Other thoughts... The Razer had a better screen, 300HZ vs 120HZ, but I am not using the laptop's screen for gaming. The Razer looks a little better (except the big green logo), but you can see a lot of fingerprints on it after a while.. this is a fingerprint magnet. Did I say that the Ryzen CPU is better and it consumes less power? The G14 is quieter and cooler when not under a big load. When gaming, the thermals on the Razer are better though... it feels uncomfortable to touch the body of the G14 approx where the power button is when a game runs for a while. So for me, the G14 is a much better choice. I don't game much though so I don't care if the FPS are 10% lower. The G14 is an amazing laptop and it definitely fits my need better. I didn't mention the price because I didn't care much about it. Yes the Razer is more expensive, but I was buying a computer for the next 4-5 years. G14 is my choice this time. Cheers.

Dave this is a very good format to compare laptops. Very clean and clear. I wish you could do a mid-range for daily use with aspects of portability but with exceptional power. It would reach out to a lot more users globally.
Probably laughing so hard seeing Dave talking about thermal issues on those high-end laptops ,while watching this video on my laptop which has a fan and throttles on using chrome 😂
Dave, I'm a 51 year old, healthcare professional making $50K USD per month and like I did in my college days, I always look for value. This video was very exciting for me because at a glance, your tier system encapsulated what type of gaming laptop I might further research and purchase. I appreciate the time you take to review each unit as you are a master of your craft, something seriously lacking in healthcare right now - but that's a story for another time. Be well, Ravi Peiris M.D.
@@ludicrous7376 to be honest, it's a blessing that I can use the "my laptop doesn't have a webcam" excuse so I don't have to show my face on work calls. I did buy a cheap 1080p usb cam on Amazon tho if the need arises
@@benchmarkslab2005 Its the Ryzen5-1660ti. I could only get the 60Hz screen. But it works for me. The best part is the cooling. It dosent get hot at all except from bottom. The games give good fps even in the Default cooling option which dosent bring the fans to the max. The battery is 70whr so its better than 50whr. The asthetic is just great. Its clean and doesn't shout gaming at all. The thin bezels and dark grey makes it look awesome. One concern was the lid flex & loose hing but i guess Hp fixed it. Bcoz in my unit the hinge is perfectly fine. The keyboard deck is aluminium so it feels great but gathers fingerprints a lot. If you are into gaming then try to get the next spec with the 144hz screen with better colours. That would just complete the experience. An option for RGb keyboard would have been great but in India we dont have it. Lastly spare some cash to upgrade the ram to 16gigs for some more performance. Also 512gb ssd is fast but for gaming it might be less. My usage was for Coding, productivity and casual gaming.

Taking into account what you considered as "S Tier", I would argue that the Legion 5 also fits the bill.
Here are a few reasons why:
- It has the best screen response time out of all the Ryzen based laptops.
Completely agree. I have the 4800H/115W 2060 version and not even considering the low price, it has very few drawbacks.
I am now considering buying this laptop. Thank you.

Dave: Gets 67 laptops in 2020
A normal person: gets a laptop every 6-7 years
Not quite the same.
G14 is definitely my first pick, I have been using it for a couple of month and it's performing amazingly well.

yeah same i would like to hear more of a reasoning as to why he put it higher then the legion.
Maybe that’s more of a comparison to other Omens,he’s comparing this year’s Omen with the previous year ones. So the difference is much higher and he put that on S tier.On the other hand, previous model of this year’s legions,Y540 and Y740 were good too. @@FrequencyModulator bro Is G14 worth .

@@nehal0730 It is. But let me give you a quick insight on how I use the laptop.
I'm a dev that needs a computer that
1. can be hooked to two external monitors (one ultra-wide with G-Sync 2650x1080 and one 1920x1080),
2. can run games at 2650x1080 resolution with good FPS
3. is not loud when I do simple stuff like browsing or watching youtube
4. can be hooked to a 65w USB-C when travelling
5. is just portable
The 2020 Razer Blade Advanced had the following config: i7-10875, RTX 2070 Super Max-Q, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, price $3299 CAD + tax
The G14 has the following config: Ryzen 4900HS, RTX 2060 Max-Q, 16GB RAM, 1GB SSD, price $2499 CAD + tax.
Cheers.
