Now! But when they where "inhabited", they wher called (in french): "Enfers" (Hells).
The worst thing was during large gale times, when there was no possibility of falls ( change teams ), sometimes more than a month !

I have been in a lighthouse once in a similar storm in Kirkenes north of Norway you can feel the whole thing shake and vibrate, and you can air pockets in your ears sometimes, such a strong force when the wave hit the tower, you can feel the atmosphere kinda change inside almost like the whole thing bread, it's one hell of a rush!

How in the world can he sleep at night 😳 with these massive gigantic waves hit these walls like 30 times per minute. Wow. How do these lighthouses stand the continual assaults? There was a 100 foot tsunami wave in Alaska, and it took out the entire lighthouse (during the time of Krakatoa, I believe). How do the lighthouses do it? And how are they built in the first place?? Fascinating.

Minot light in cohasset mass. Has Ben standing since 1850. Built with granite from the Quincy rail quarry. That thing takes a thrashing every winter. The original one was iron legs with the light at top. Lasted one year and was destroyed in a winter gale.

In the first clip, What really blows my mind is how the sea surrounding that lighthouse is all churned up and crashing so far away from the actual island. I know the lighthouse is to warn of shallow water and land ahead, but to see how it takes waves that big to lower the depth of the water enough to crash. Would anyone stay in the lighthouse on a dare? Or would you need serious compensation? Or you wouldn't go no matter what?

Lighthouses are meant to be sturdy enough to survive massive wave impact. That's why almost all lighthouses are made of stone and are built into the island or rock formations they stand on.

They can still make great houses, it's called recession buildings now pretty much, ever since the first one hit, stuff has been built cheaper and cheaper, if you want a solid place like this, first you have to find someone that knows how to build one (cause there isn't many skilled people left it seems, just cheap sheep that can copy stuff) and secondly you need the $$$ big time.

The background music is an interesting choice - the Introit from Mozart's Requiem. Regardless of your theological beliefs, the text seems fitting for this video. The text, Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine: et lux perpetua luceat eis, means "eternal rest give unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them."

I want to know how it's even possible for something made of block to hold up to those waves? I guess most of them are round for a reason, deflects the waves. But some of those weren't, a tidal wave destroys buildings and this is a lot more force. Or it looks like it is.
