You and the other crew experienced some stuff very few other humans ever will. As a guy in southern Louisiana who has had family work on offshore drills in the Gulf of Mexico for decades we know how important you guys really are! I want to say Cheers from the States!!
I shall still be at sea, for now at least, but I shall not be making any more Month at Sea on an ERRV videos. The restrictions that I’ve had put on my filming have made it impossible for me to continue to make videos that would be of any interest. I hope enjoyed the series? Especially the earlier videos where I was allowed to film the oil workers up close. I know that they appreciated the view from the other side, as did their families at home. I hope to continue to film storms but they will also be restricted in content.

Rouge waves are the ones that come from a different direction right? what happens if a large rogue wave comes from the side, do you try to turn into it or do you just hold on and pray?
If we see if we head into it. They can be quite common in bad weather so we have to keep a good lookout and head into the really big rogue waves while getting hit side on by the normal waves that are just big. We then have to turn back into the general direction of the storm until the next one comes. Not so easy at night time.
Ugly's an understatement for that last one! You and the crew deserve every penny of your pay and then some after what you go through and that's just the ocean, and the rescuing! You guys have my absolute respect and hope you and the crew always have a safe journey n always return to your families (whom I also feel for...they must get worried sick, and rightfully)

It's amazing isn't it James? A year after I filmed this we smashed two bridge windows in the space of a few days. It was not the windows that failed but the studs in the window frames. In the course of a storm we would be hit by these size waves several times a day for two-three weeks and, as I'm sure you know, a cubic meter of water ways 1 tonne. That's s hell of s lot of weight being thrown at those windows. However, the tiniest of taps with a hammer and they shatter like, well........glass I suppose?
Bigwavemaster1 That's probably true. Still, I think they must use some very high quality plexiglass when making "bulletproof glass". I am at least willing to bet that they don't use regular glass for windows such as these. I don't think normal glass could handle the high winds, in addition to the water spray from large waves. By the way, Thanks for posting this awesome video!
Our windows are certainly not normal glass. They are quarter inch toughened safety glass. The same as you would get in a car only much thicker. Thanks of the comments. I make a film every trip showing the crew in their daily lives. I'm at sea now and shall be uploading the next in a couple of weeks. Hope you've subscribed? ;)

The line goes "Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?". Chilling. Best from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Me too. Did the Drake Passage in 2006 and had a massive storm and boy were we absolutely rocking and rolling. So much fun. Spent as much time on the bridge 😂😂😂
I’ve been out in my little 23 ft ski boat before and we’d come up waves on river or the gulf where it seemed to be best to hit them at a slight angle vs straight on. I take it, that is wrong?? What is the best way to take on waves??
I’m my experience it is always best to take the biggest waves head on at the slowest speed that maintains steerage. If you take them at an angle, the wave can push your bow and cause your vessel to go beam-on. That always upsets the cook.

A special Night Time one has been loaded just for you.
Not so easy at night time.
yeah that sounds exhausting, thanks for the reply
Thanks for the question.

I have to wonder what kind of glass that is, to withstand all that pressure in the last clip.
I am surprised these are not made of a material like plexiglass?
That's a good point. Plexiglass marks too easily and would make it increasingly difficult to see out of.

We do get people who complain about 4 meters being rough and then get a rude awakening when a storm hits!!!
Wish we could get a quick pic of the body of this vessel.

We film some of the largest waves ever caught on camera.
We work with 2 oil platforms that can accurately measure wave height so no guessing or exaggeration.

Me too. Did the Drake Passage in 2006 and had a massive storm and boy were we absolutely rocking and rolling. So much fun. Spent as much time on the bridge 😂😂😂
When the front of the ship drops down at the top of a wave, how far can it drop? Love these videos.. thank you.
About the same height as the wave I suppose?
There’s been some big waves since this was filmed 😳

I’ve been out in my little 23 ft ski boat before and we’d come up waves on river or the gulf where it seemed to be best to hit them at a slight angle vs straight on. I take it, that is wrong?? What is the best way to take on waves??
I’m my experience it is always best to take the biggest waves head on at the slowest speed that maintains steerage. If you take them at an angle, the wave can push your bow and cause your vessel to go beam-on. That always upsets the cook.
This last is a really good proof about how rogue waves works
