This is really cool. And It reminds me of my childhood, I called It the Master Card, like the actual card.
you know whats hard to find? the technical ins and outs of how the r4 card actually works. like, what is the little OS that it boots into that lets you choose your game, why does it look like a game rom to the DS, not speculation like "so Nintendo doesn't find out" no i mean why those specific games and not some random one. like, i REALLY want to know how EXACTLY this thing works. There are nearly no YT videos on the subject. Its all kinda "place these files here, then boot the game" im like, "okay but why do it do that and how you look menu difrent??" you know what i mean? That would be such a cool deep dive into it all ^~^

Try to get a .cn r4 card those doesn't have any timebomb otherwise you'll need to install YSMenu to r4 cards like gold pro
(Timebomb: card will stop working one day and you'll need to do some tweak for reviving it he is explaining at 1:00)
@@kerem1294 the time bomb is stored in the kernel itself. The card has no impact on a time bomb being there at all, only where you download the software from.

Cards like gold pro will stop working one day, their software works that way and there is NO way to remove it
BUT you can bypass it with YSMenu that is the only way some of people don't prefer it cause how menu looks
But these cards have RTS that lets you to save from anywhere which its great
(Arton is using R4 card with YSMenu cause it had a timebomb)
There are also other cards called WOOD R4
You can not save from anywhere (only in game saving) but menu is looking great, and you do not have to use YSmenu
Note: you can NOT install wood menu kernel to gold pro kernel, you can only update the software by downloading it from manufacturer website
There are lot of r4 cards that way, you can google which ones have timebomb and which ones don't

is that just an issue with your r4 model? pretty sure r4's work on ds lites normally
Appreciate the content. I have only had solid experiences with the R4 card when it comes to DS, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color games. GBA is hit or miss, and everything else just doesn’t feel or look quite right. It would be awesome to see a company put real effort into these cards for better emulation and 3DS game compatibility, but I think that train has left the station with Chinese handhelds being so cheap and easy to use.
Is it legal to have?
@@will_is_class, yes. The roms should be games that you own, otherwise I believe it is considered piracy. I don’t think Amazon would sell the cards if they were illegal to possess in the first place.
3ds doesn't have a dedicated chip to run gba games. So gba emulation is never flawless on 3ds. DS is still flawless on 3ds tho because it has a dedicated chip for DS games. It has the DSi chip which is an updated version of the one from ds and lite so 3ds plays ds better than DS consoles but GBA it still suffers

Man, I have tried to set my R4 card like this for ages but just can’t get it all to work. Don’t know if it’s cause my R4 card is from 2020? Anyways, great video Anton, is their any way you can share your exact R4 card files so I can try it on mine? Thanks man!

I was wondering when on a gba game is there a way to go back to the main menu of the r4 card ?
What about the load times though, how fast is it compared to just running forwarders or using tw menu
this video helped a lot but when emulating gba games it seems pokemon emerald won't even run, fire red works fine as do the others i've tested. Looking online i've tried a few solutions but none have seemed to work has this happened to you? and if so do you have any tips on solving it

would an r4 card work just fine on my 3ds that is running the latest Luma cfw? I would like to use it to run DS and GBA games quickly without twilight menu or custom vc injections(slow procedures)

Hey Anton. I'm getting the can't find _dsmenu.dat error on my setup of the R4 and doing everything exactly as in your set up video. I have what is supposed to be an R4 SDHC from 2021 and using a New 2ds XL but it simply won't work. Any idea what might be and how to fix? *maybe might be connected to the fact it's not the real deal R4 but most likely a china version

Hey Anton! I just wanted to ask if the R4 can play any emulators for the Namco Bandai Wonderswan and where I can find them and translated versions of those three Wonderswan Digimon games that did the backstory of that Tamer they kids in the third Digimon series met in the Digital World.

Hello! Really nice content, I do have a R4, I actually had like 3 of them, but some broke or aren't compatible with my 3DS (it's outdated since i used it to play on DSi before died) my current R4 it's kinda strange, because every time i want to use it i have to set the date of my 3DS to year 2004 to make it work, yeah it's very strange, i wonder if you know about this and if there's a solution to it so i don't have to change the date all the time cause that messes up my 3DS games like Animal Crossing

Before it was L+R+A+B+X+Y, this doesn't work with ysmenu, wondering if it has another button combination so i don't have to reset the console everytime i want to switch games, again, thank you.

How do you get running The Legende of Zelda The Minish Cap so clean? I've got always that currios Lines, who makes it unplaybal on longer gamingtimes.
Check the gbarunner2 compatibility list. It has tips for fixing some of the most common problems on each specific game. Some are truly broken, others can be fix by easily messing around with the gbarunner2's configuration. Haven't tried minish cap yet. Good Luck :)

Is there an r4 card that can auto load a rom. I need an r4 card that can auto load 1 rom and work on ds, dsl, dsi, and preferably 3ds and 2ds line its just for a Rom thats used to test the ds like it's buttons screen pixels touchscreen mic etc I have the Rom and it works but its for when i purchase these consoles as I collect them it allows me to easily test them
I get an error message, when trying to load gba games directly from the file: No flash cartridge in slot2, how do i fix and if i go through the emu. it has sound bugs in most games.
also 3d games like super monkeyball or doom2 are extremely broken

I use GBARunner2 on my R4 on a 3DS - However I'm having some issues with loading several GBA games. Some load, some don't and I can't figure out why some won't play. Any suggestions on fixing? The gba files work fine on a PC or mobile phone emulator

They work for 3ds, I think you might have to do a patch or something though. Just type 2ds homebrew into youtube.

@@ericcook5745 there is Sky3ds for that, but running CFW is easier. Have an R4 for NDS stuff, and 3DS, Emulators etc, on the SD for 3DS.

I would recommend the New Nintendo 3DS, 2DS or even DSi. Those systems should work very well with it.

Something I am still waiting for is a Virtual Boy emulator for the DS (Not the 3DS). People say it's too hard to make because VB is more powerful than SNES and the DS can't even emulate THAT properly, and to thst I say "you're full of crap". The DS can VERY PROPERLY emulate SNES so I don't think it would be a stretch to make a VB emulator.Also I'm not an expert on chips and device preformance and all that but this is just what I think. If a VB emulator is NOT possible, than can someone at the very least take all 22 of the VB games and make DS ports? If anyone reading this knows about a VB emulator for DS or has a link for DS ports of VB games, please reply with them. I'll be editing to the end of time to play Virtual Boy on the DS. Thanks.

Today, my dad found my old 3DS. I don't remember if I had any games on it, and I don't know where the charger is, so I'll need to buy one. Does anyone know a good website where I can get a 200-500 in 1 game cartridge for the 3DS that works well and saves progress easily? I want one that's simple to set up so my nephew can play it without any hassle.
Also, if you don't know a website, can you tell me the name of a good product? I know Amazon has a lot, but the reviews are hard to trust. It seems most of the multi-game cartridges have issues. I'm looking for one that's easy to use and reliable. Sorry @Anton Retro if I just misused your comment section for this kind of help.

No, the r4 card is technically a ds cartridge. So it can still run on a 3ds because of backwards compatibility, but cant play ds games because then how could it be played on the regular ds?
