Tubi, the Fox free streaming app, has a lot of documentaries. I recently viewed “The Diabetes Solution” regarding T1D, which served to confirm my negative impression of the advice given to diabetics when they are diagnosed. I am type 2, who suddenly had an A1c of 12.5…and I immediately enrolled in an ADA counseling within 2 weeks of my dx. I was appalled..the recommendations appeared going down a seriously bad path, dietarily. My dr started me off with metformin and glimepiride…telling me to return in a few months to review another A1c. At the 3 mo return visit, he started by saying he was going to increase my meds. I asked him to review my recent bloodwork first. It was now 6.2. He was amazed and asked what I had done different. The South Beach was my answer. It is now10 years later, same dosage of meds. Still remaing between that 6.2 and. 6.7 range. The SB diet was restrictive, so I switched no pasta (zoodles etc being substitutes) and other baked goods, bread etc, were Keto…baking most of my bread. Three month ago I was diagnosed with diabetes 208 mg/dl and A1c 8.8. This is the first time I was officially an Type2 patient. Then I watched lots of TH-cam videos like this one, and stop eating ice cream, coke, French fry, cake, sweet cereal. Instead, I eat egg and cheese more. I can feel thy my body feels much better than before: not much stomach acids, less fart, much clear mind. Although I take Metformin during next three month. I still keep my regular diet with rice, meet, and vegetables. If I am hungry during meals, I eat peanut and sunflower seeds. After theee month, I went to took the test again, and my sugar level is 108 mg/ml, and A1C is 5.4. So eat leas sugar do help.

Hi Tom! I was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes after an annual checkup. I had a fasting glucose of 254 and an A1C of 11.3! After some more tests they found I had tested positive for antibodies (289.2 U/ml) and other markers. I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of your hard work in making this information so available and entertaining! My family and I were so overwhelmed when we found out, because I was relatively healthy and diabetes doesn’t run in my family at all! Since watching your videos, I have been able to keep my average sugar around the 111 mark. We love your videos, and would 100% purchase any merchandise if you had any! We often joke about how I’m a blood sugar champion in the morning! I was wondering if you have ever made a video about the “honeymoon phase” of T1D? My endo thinks I’m going through it now and it’s been difficult to find videos that are as thoughtful and informative as yours! Thank you so much again for all of your hard work!
In terms of tips that I’ve incorporated from your videos… I love adding a capful of apple cider vinegar to some apple cinnamon tea at night! I also like to have a cup or two of zero sugar Chobani Greek yogurt at night! I think the extra carbs from the yogurt and the tea help me keep things relatively level throughout the night… and the yogurt helps my sweet tooth! I also try to intermittent fast for at least 12 hours a day, although I average about 14. :)
Congratulations, it sounds like you’re doing a lot better. Tom has been a Godsend for us too. Tom has such a great advice. My daughter was diagnosed T1D in September 2023. She is in the ‘ honeymoon period’ too. What a weird term😂 We would love to hear more about the honeymoon period too. She and I always have eaten healthy because she also has celiac disease. Celiac is another autoimmune disorder, egg and other food allergies. I cook nearly everything we eat, and we never go to restaurants. She has gotten sick before from restaurants claiming to follow gluten-free protocols.
From my understanding, which is limited mind you, the honeymoon phase for type 1s happens after they start treating their condition. Since it's not like type 2, in which the major issue is insulin resistance and not insulin absence (which can still happen if the pancreas is in a very bad state), type 1s usually get their condition almost immediately due to the sudden pause of insulin production, which of course leads to high blood sugar levels. This is due to the autoimmune attack that happens which is not related to dietary issues, therefore, a lot of newly diagnosed type 1s are STILL very insulin sensitive. Hence why their insulin therapy is extremely effective at the beginning of their treatment. That's also why doctors might start with small doses of insulin, since there mostly is no issue with insulin resistance in the cells. Lastly on that, they might still make small amounts of insulin despite the antibody attack on the pancreas. So all summed up, most newly diagnosed type 1s are still insulin sensitive, therefore, getting some insulin in their system again is enough to stabilize their blood sugars. Now on why it's called a "phase" is simply because, with the use of external insulin which, even small doses might be high enough for the cells to start, gradually, becoming insulin resistant. I don't know exactly what the differences are in regulating pancreatic and external insulin, but, if no other steps are taken (changes in diet, exercise etc) the slight increase of insulin resistance will require more insulin to stabilize blood sugars. And unfortunately, higher levels of insulin lead to higher insulin resistance. It's a vicious cycle. However with the above mentioned lifestyle changes and a bit of help from drugs like Glucophage (Metformin), that help raise insulin resistance, this "honeymoon phase" could potentially last for years, maybe even indefinitely. Of course it would require a tremendous amount of effort and consistency from the person's end. That's why I think it's called that. On an end note, I would strongly suggest all of you to check out the book "Diabetes Solution" by Dr.Bernstein, an endocrinologist who has lived all through his almost 90s now, with Type 1 since the age of 12. @@terrilaughlin1121
Excellent video. I encourage everyone, especially people above 40 years old because I as a healthy non diabetic>55 south Indian man found/ know/know from our social customs most of it, if not all works. or
Our Lord and Lady both suffered. Our Lord sanctified suffering by willingly and lovingly embracing His cross and dying on it. Pain and suffering is meritorious when patiently endured and offered in union with Christ's sacrifice on the Cross.
I would like to add one more hack for type 2 :) it helped my dad when he found out that he had diabetes he had 16 mmol/l when he found out and within 6 months his blood sugar level went down to 7. My case was a bit more extreme, just after the new year I found out I have diabetes too, I had 23.4 (421) and now my morning sugar levels are between 5.5 and 6.0 (99 - 108) without taking any medications. So the recipe was taken from one of the Chinese clinics that deal with diabetes. Take 100 grams of ginger, squeeze 2 lemons, and add 3 big tablespoons of cinnamon and 2 liters of water, blend it all together, and let it rest in the fridge overnight in a fridge. Drink 2 deciliters 15 to 30 minutes before a meal. After 6 months if your blood sugar goes down reduce it to 1 deciliter before a meal for the next 6 months otherwise continue with 2 deciliters for another six months. And after 1 year you should stop drinking it.
I am diabetes. I have the Free Style Sensor. I , to dinner carbohydrates at 8PM because my glucose is very low in the morning. In addition, my body woke up when glucose is very low. Then, I drink juice or oats. But, in the morning, glucose is low. Thanks!!
I have type 2 and my doctors are clueless, without any advice. I have been feeling that this is killing me with having any support or information. I happened upon this video and I'm blown away. It's the best diabetes video I have ever seen, so very helpful. I have subscribed! I am even telling my doc about it. Thanks so much!
@maureenmcnulty9730 You doc is clearly incompetent. How come he/she didn't see that coming ? Probably just did sugar level test at each checkup right ?
@@jessicademby6936 There are many channels talking about diabetes Type 2 and how to reverse it. There are different ways of doing it so that creates antagonists 🙂
I had a total gastrectomy last year, my surgeon told me to go easy on carbs as I'm not diabetic right now but I could become it one day. Great channel with great content!!
Last aug[23] I was diagnosed with A1C 6.4 and glucose 124 since then have been doing everything right cutting out sugar eating a lot of good fat, eating protein and fat and yet my blood sugar readings stubborn in the morning at 110-112. I had thought 1-2 beers wouldnt affect that but I was wrong. After stopping the beer the last 2 mornings BS readings of 97 and 93. I have also lost 35 lbs and go for brisk walks , my age 78 . Intend to see my Dr and get tested again early april. The look on his face might be rather "Priceless". Even had a few peanuts after dinner and I wondered how much that would affect readings but it had no affect , but you do have to use some caution as nuts add up both calories and carbs.
If u have diabetics u have to eat an healthy diet..stay away from sugars .. Eat lots of greens.. Eat lentil soups.. Eat eggs and most importantly eat breakfast.. I made those peppers and onions and tomatoes egg breakfast, and it was really good, I made three eggs, 1 onion, 1 bell pepper, one tomato's and I saved one for lunch, very tasty indeed!!
Also, I'm having my coffee after breakfast as I was always getting up at 7 and making coffee before anything else, but morning testing was 156 which seems high, the chart you showed says below 200 is good, and below 100 is excellent, so I'm in the right range, but I was terrified when I saw 140-150 range thinking I'm going to explode... I was just .1 mmol (18 mg/dl) away from a formal T2D diagnosis back in December. Many of these hacks have worked beautifully to put me back to non-diabetic levels.
That breakfast!!! I’ll definitely be trying! 😁👍🏼 One of my favorite breakfasts is an arugula salad with pumpkin seeds, shaved Italian cheese (not much), evoo & balsamic, and two eggs chopped up. Oh boy! Full disclosure: I’m not diabetic & have no idea what it does to my blood sugar.
There is an experience from a Muslim brother who says: Use this mixture, which is yogurt with ground coriander, fenugreek, and onion peel. Use it an hour before eating. All meals do this method.

I am finding that even though I eat healthy (very low carb diet) my A1C was still going up…. It was a total surprise and then I found out that estrogen is a glucose moderator. I hardly have any estrogen because I got breast cancer and now am on anastrazole which strips my body of estrogen. Now I now only have to fight cancer, but find ways to strengthen my bones (estrogen is needed for that), and now on top of that I have to eat like I’m diabetic because I need to find outside ways to monitor/regulate my glucose. I am so grateful for this video. Thank you!❤

I changed to a WFPB lifestyle in April and 2020 because of blood sugar issues have been managing my blood sugar with diet and exercise and I have noticed that coffee raised my blood sugar so I stopped. I now get a Starbucks mocha latte or a matcha on some weekends and I drink half. I save the other half for the next morning. I now drink tea everyday loose leaf teas. I still have not gotten my glucose as low as I could in the beginning but I have dedicated my life to daily gentle stretching and moving no matter what. Thank you for your information.

I am not a diabetic but I have insulin resistance from binge drinking for years. I stopped the drinking but didn't stop with the carbs and fast food. I get blood sugar spikes then my body overreacts with insulin then I crash. I changed my diet to almost keto but I keep complex carbs around and i drink half a protein shake before bed because im terrified of crashes. Next up is exercise. I love watching these videos.
Thanks for sharing the results of all your hard work. Since diabetes is all over the map, a journal is the way with diabetes, as well as allergies, heart burn, etc....
I freaking loved the whiskey 🥃 idea 😅 I am genuinely trying to fix my insulin resistance, 4 days ago my results came, my HBa1C was 5.68 Now I am trying to get it fixed by fasting, diet and some whisky 🥃 shots 😅
Thank you so much, your video is so informing, I just subscribed. I just was diagnosed with Diabetes 2 with a A1C of 12.2. For the last 4 weeks I have drastically changed my eating habits and am following some of the hacks you have mentioned as well as starting metformin. i feel so much different for the better my BP is now normal and the pains in my legs and arms are pretty much gone. Can't wait for the 4th month mark to retest. My only reservation is the Doctor I am seeing. Very textbook info. She was young which I thought would be more innovative with ideas. Just kind of gave me the speech and nothing specific about nutrition options. Maybe they know now that we just turn to youtube for more enlightened info like you. But i am wondering as my friends have asked me why she didn't prescribe a glucose monitor. I am calling her tomorrow.
These are great tips. This summer, one of my higher carb treats has been watermelon. I dressed it up with HWC and Cottage Cheese. I live a keto lifestyle so hence the HWC. Without the dressing my BS would spike as high as 170, but with the added protein and fat it might spike as high as 120-145, depending on if I have it as a solo treat or after a meal. My meals are ultra low carb and keto so after a meal my BS will increase no more than 120-125 eating this watermelon treat. So you’re right about the dressing and the order. Thanks for sharing!♥️
Your 'flash screen' is wrong from what my Endocrinologist told me. Diabetes is like climate; Blood sugar levels are like weather. You can be diabetic but control your blood sugar with diet. NOT ONLY DIET EFFECTS BLOOD SUGAR!!! Perhaps my understanding of this is better because I had checked my blood sugar and had not problems. But I had a wrist infection which fed my blood sugar and I went into the hospital with an A1c of 12. It was the infection that was feeding the blood sugar. 3 months later my A1c was 5.5 in the normal range. Weaned off Metformin after that and maintain a normal range of blood sugar. That doesn't mean I'm not diabetic, just well controlled with diet. My bad hip keeps me from doing much exercise, so mostly diet.
TH-camr Tom Delauer covered a study showing this coffee effect. Apparently, our cortisol also spikes just after waking to get us ready for activity, so adding coffee on top of that cortisol is an overload. Waiting just one hour can negate that effect.
I took the low carb approach no rice,no bread, no potatoes, no pasta. Bloodsugar A1C went from 6.6 to 5.6 with no meds.I made the mistake of no laying off the beer it made my triglicerides skyrocket though.
Resistance training with bands through out the day whenever you can is another effective way for the body to suck up extra sugar from carbs in the meal
Wonderful video. I learned so much! I had a question about bread. I am insulin resistant. I generally make my own bread. This year I learnedthat to make sourdough bread because during Covid it was hard to find yeast. Is sourdough bread better as regards to how it affects blood sugar spikes?
I wish I knew about your videos when I had GD. But they still have a big impact now when I'm trying to change my eating habits 😊 Before my pregnancy I thought that I was eating healthy, now I realise how wrong I was. Big thank you!
Gosh, how informative you are with vital info we need to be aware of in how we are managing diabetes. Always tweaking our diet, and being aware of how exercise helps improving better glucose. I love knowing these tips. Thank you very much. You are a good presenter of these high amount of info that we have start incorporating in our diet to live a healthy life.

Hard to believe a master engineer designed our body with such precision , yet such a design flaw that needs to be corrected by hacks from a You tube video. ( Or maybe our bodies are not evolving as fast as the processed food we eat has evolved ) Either way, thank you Tom for taking us by the hand and guiding us to overcome this design flaw in our bodies.
Our liver feeds us under stress even though there is plenty of sugar in a diabetic blood stream, this to me is a design flaw. But maybe I am wrong, because I don't think our bodies were designed for the fast food with drive throughs and high sugar content of what we eat. we may have to wait for our bodies to evolve to the new foods or go back to eating so as not to stress the fragile pancreas or cause inflammation . As I am writing this I am also thinking about how our immune system destroys our beta cells causing type 1 DM, that is also a design flaw. Stay well niceuba @@niceuba7813
It is not a design flaw. We in the modern world eat foods engineered by mankind, not original foods provided by God. You nailed it with “processed food”. Our bodies are not made to eat ‘sugar’ , bleached white flour, pastas made from over processed wheat, or a box of crackers or chips that have 25 ingredients in it. I am surprised there are not more diabetics.
When God made man there was no design flaw. Imperfections both in body and food came about because of sin. One day all will be perfect again. Something to look forward to....
Fantastic video! Wonderful summary of the hacks. As a LADA and my daughter is Type 1. Canada has a program that follows these hacks..you are getting them out there. Keep up the good work Tom

@@heenathymeena5475stay away from sugars. Stay away from basic carbs and eat complex carbs (Google the definitions) exercise = MOVE, go for a 15 min or longer walk. 30 minutes seems to be most beneficial. Try to get a 10 or 15 minute walk after any meal you can. You use the biggest muscles in your body to walk and they also burn the most carbs (blood sugar) to lower your blood sugar. You don't have to run marathons, just do what you actually can. Don't just say, Oh it's not easy, I don't have time. You CAN make time if you want to and nothing that's worth doing is easy!

A cautionary tale about allulose. I suddenly started getting these really dangerous lows in the middle of the night and was also waking up with low blood sugar. I was really concerned because it was dipping down low enough in the middle of the night it could have put me in a diabetic coma and I wasn't hearing my glucose monitor alarm going off. I was really puzzled, I had no idea why that was happening, I was eating the same as always and my A1C had been under good control for years, normally 4.8 to 5. My doctor told me to cut back on my long acting Tresiba I take at night, but no change, I still got the dangerous lows. I finally figured out it was from changing the type low carb sweetener I was using. I had started using allulose. It turns out allulose can affect glp-1. I was shocked. I stopped using it in the evening in my tea, and cut back on how much I used in the morning in my coffee or in my tea in the afternoon, and the dangerous lows went away. I doubt it affects everyone like that, but it was shocking and scary how using it in the evening affected me.
Im a type 1 diabetic for 35 yrs and cinnamon (powder) actually lowers my blood sugar its the only food that can actually lower it . A half a teaspoon will do it! ( Not saying it works for everyone) any experience on cinnamon? Thank you.
Hi All, I wanted to give updates after three months from my last A1C measurement. Since my last test of A1c and glucose level (5.4 and 108) on Feb 5th, I did another test today (5/19) and I got amazing result (A1c = 5.6, and glucose level = 114). Between last test and this test, I only took Metformin HCl 500 mg in the morning only for the entire day), and keep the same diet (No ice cream, coke, French fry, cake, sweet cereal, coke etc. - basically NO food with high content of added sugar). So it looks like Metforming HCl makes little differences. My next step is to NOT taking metformin HCl at all, and keep the same diet for another 3 months, and I want to see if I can keep my blood sugar at the current level without taking Metformin HCl. By the way, I ate lots of peanuts as my snack for the pass three month.

Wow. Are you still at 5.5?

Thank you!❤

I am calling her tomorrow.
thanks for sharing valuable information regarding how to control the diabetics - your way of teaching is also appreciable . thanks again
God bless you and your family
Thank you so much for the good information given to the world puple.
This video is fantastic in terms of the comprehensiveness of the content. Thank you for sharing all of these great tips!

Resistance training with bands through out the day whenever you can is another effective way for the body to suck up extra sugar from carbs in the meal

Design flaw?
Our liver feeds us under stress even though there is plenty of sugar in a diabetic blood stream, this to me is a design flaw. But maybe I am wrong, because I don't think our bodies were designed for the fast food with drive throughs and high sugar content of what we eat. we may have to wait for our bodies to evolve to the new foods or go back to eating so as not to stress the fragile pancreas or cause inflammation . As I am writing this I am also thinking about how our immune system destroys our beta cells causing type 1 DM, that is also a design flaw. Stay well niceuba @@niceuba7813
Imperfection
It is not a design flaw. We in the modern world eat foods engineered by mankind, not original foods provided by God. You nailed it with “processed food”. Our bodies are not made to eat ‘sugar’ , bleached white flour, pastas made from over processed wheat, or a box of crackers or chips that have 25 ingredients in it. I am surprised there are not more diabetics.
When God made man there was no design flaw. Imperfections both in body and food came about because of sin. One day all will be perfect again. Something to look forward to....

Thank you for all that you do.
