My thoughts are that the candle took Abuela's age into account (65-70) and began tying its magic to Mirabel so that she could begin learning to take over for Abuela..... since the house's magic is now tied to Mirabel it was reacting to her emotions
My friend pointed this out to me while we were rewatching the movie. Fr tho Mirabel is the only one who does didnt get a gift ALSO the only one who wiped their hand
My theory- Mirabelles gift is not having one so she can see that everyone else is defined and becoming trapped by their gifts. She encourages them to look past the gifts to see the people inside. The proof of this is in the doors. Every child receives a door to their own rooms. Mirabelle receives the knob to the door of the entire house making the entire house her domain.
Her gift was to save the family like her grandmother did. Her real gift was seeing the cracks where no one else can, and able to tackle the generational trauma.

Making Mirabel the only one who can see, and the only one other than abula who could communicate and interact with the house.
It’s not a theory, that’s literally the point of the movie. And why the magic came back at the end when she completed the casita. Besides that, she also has a ton of butterfly imagery on her dress and all around her, which is the symbol for the Encanto.

This makes so much sense! I always thought she didn't get a gift because after she touched the candle she wiped her hands on her dress. I thought that the magic transfered to herself and that is why she is able to save the miracle. I think that one day eventually the family would fall apart because of how toxic Abuela was. So basically I think that Mirabel transfered the magic to herself and was destined to save the miracle.

Actually, Mirabel does have a gift, and that is Casita. At the end, when Antonio gave Mirabel a doorknob with her first letter, when she put it on the door, the whole house came alive and Mirabel was the first one and the most seeable on the door, so basically, she does have a door. I mean I assumed that her gift had something to do with reality distortion. During the songs there's different backdrops and things that happen in them. During "Waiting on a Miracle" she freezes time, in "Surface Pressure" the scenery changes and personifies Luisa's growing anxiety and fears, in "We Don't Talk About Bruno" she somehow goes through a tunnel that leads her to the center of the village but when we look back where she came from the tunnel isn't there anymore. When Isabela starts singing her part of the song everyone is back at the Madrigals' house. In "Dos Oruguitas" she sees the events that led to the creation of the Encanto and Abuela's story. So yeah, my theory is that she did receive a gift during her ceremony, but it wasn't something that was immediately obvious like Antonio's. Mirabel had anxiety about her gift which led to her causing the door to disappear with her new undiscovered powers. At the end of the movie, Mirabel is confident in her own worth and her place in the family so her door finally reappears when she puts the doorknob in. However because it's been so long since it first appeared, it's changed from what it was originally meant to be into something that personifies who Mirabel is which is the glue that holds her family together

Another fact(which proves this theory right): Everyone in the family have clothes that have a design which represents their gift, luisa has weights on her skirt, isabela has flowers across her dress, Dolores has sound waves on her skirt, Julieta has herbs on her's, same with the others and Abuela has butterflies on her sleeves and a candle on her collar because she is the candle holder while mirabel has a butterfly on her sleeve and also We can see a candle on her skirt proving she is gonna be the next candle holder.

When Isabela starts singing her part of the song everyone is back at the Madrigals' house. In "Dos Oruguitas" she sees the events that led to the creation of the Encanto and Abuela's story.
So yeah, my theory is that she did receive a gift during her ceremony, but it wasn't something that was immediately obvious like Antonio's. Mirabel had anxiety about her gift which led to her causing the door to disappear with her new undiscovered powers. At the end of the movie, Mirabel is confident in her own worth and her place in the family so her door finally reappears when she puts the doorknob in. However because it's been so long since it first appeared, it's changed from what it was originally meant to be into something that personifies who Mirabel is which is the glue that holds her family together
I also have a theory Mirabel wipes her hands off her dress at her ceremony and doesn't receive a gift while Antonio doesn't wipe his hands or touch anything and does receive a gift you can rewatch the movie and skip to the scenes
It makes so much since why she talking to house and why she had no powers it just makes sense
Another fact(which proves this theory right): Everyone in the family have clothes that have a design which represents their gift, luisa has weights on her skirt, isabela has flowers across her dress, Dolores has sound waves on her skirt, Julieta has herbs on her's, same with the others and Abuela has butterflies on her sleeves and a candle on her collar because she is the candle holder while mirabel has a butterfly on her sleeve and also We can see a candle on her skirt proving she is gonna be the next candle holder.
A lot of people have been saying she “Wiped off her gift” but in reality its because she has sweaty hands, Bruno said that when she was about to fall so I’m pretty sure that theory is debunked. (Edit: its also the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in both reality and virtually)
The reason why she didn’t get a gift was because she wiped her hands off after she touched the miracle and then she touched the door. It was because she wiped her hands off, so she only had a hint of the powers which was a slow down time that was gonna be her actual power.
It can also be that she wiped the candle off in her dress
In the scene of Mirabel supposed to be getting her gift,she touches the candle and then right after she wipes her hand on her dress so I reckon she wiped the magic off because when Antonio was getting his gift he didn’t wipe his hands and got his gift.

this is a good theory, but if you watch when she "gets her gift" she wipes her hands on her skirt, and THEN touches the door leading it to fade away.
