In elden ring serpents are the symbol of blasphemy against the greater will so it makes sense that the dudes who want to kill the gods would have them as part of their design.
Took me way too long to realize that the Noble's overweight appearance comes from their armour. Suppose it's similar to Smough, an obesely shaped armour hides the vigour and strength within.

Granted, this is probably because at the point we fight him, he is far too experienced and confident for it not to be second nature.
There's a line cut out of the cutscene after you beat Maliketh where Enya was to say "Black flames have devoured the Erdtree." It would have been cool if we had a choice with which flame to use on the Erdtree depending on who we sided with. It seems to me like a lot of content having to do with The Dusk/Gloam Eyed Queen was cut
I can only imagine how insane it would look if the Erdtree was engulfed by black flames instead. Although the fire effect they used looked a bit odd lol

Reminds me of how I was shocked to see Godskin Apostle set on my character I've played quite a lot of Leatherface in both Mortal Kombat X and Dead By Daylight. But seeing a literal face on my character's cape was enough to make my stomach turn
Interesting thing is that Noble doesn't seem to be actually obese. He has a thin face, thin arms and thin legs. Basically anything not covered by his suit of "supple skin" is fairly normal.
Honestly, Godskin Duo isn't that hard, it's just really messy and poorly made. That slapped 2 completely different bosses (mechanics wise) together, who work with equal speed. It's a bad fight.
The fact they keep facial features like eyes and noses intact is an eerie level of detail. It hints the... harvesting... process is time consuming and intricate in gruesome ways. Its beyond taking strips to fashion leather, this is like a taxidermy suit.
I thought about that as well. This kind of perfect preservation, flawless warping, and seamless connection must take exceptional skill. I always assumed that they managed to do this with a very precise form of grafting; people complain that grafting was never brought up again after Godrick, but I think you can find examples of it everywhere, such as the Revenant and Godskin enemies.

Godrick grafted so many limbs to his Body that he has to awkwardly swing around them to try to hit the player. No, Revenants are something else. They have a giant open wound, which is probably the reason why healing spells hurt them. Godrick or his Scions dont have anything like that.
The cut at 1:35 is hilarious to me. The needlessly done camera work combined with the epic music perfectly juxtaposes the mundanity of it just being some fat guy in a field.
In the Middle Ages being obese was considered a sing of nobility because of the plenty of food you could have at your disposal in contrast to the poorest class of the population. So it makes sense that the Godskin Noble is fat.

It does bring up an interesting point that they wore such massive suits in order to intentionally look obese, mimicking that sentiment that the heavier one is, the deeper their pockets and stronger their influence.
@@notthalis9545 When I look at it, especially the animations, I think of frogs and pufferfish rather than medieval nobles so there's also a threat display element to the noble's garb. It reads to me as "I can take up a lot of space so watch out!".
I hope to see more about these flamboyantly fleshy dudes in future DLC, I find them to be the most interesting group/faction/enemies in the game, and there's a lot of questions brought up by their lore that is provided by the game.

I remember stumbling upon a godskin apostle after exploring a random village of dancing women and it startled the crap out of me, lol. Their entire aesthetic is so interesting to me.
The way he walks slowly towards after seemingly coming out of nowhere. On top of a village where the inhabitants are dancing and shit. Almost like they are in a trance. It's creepy. I wonder why the apostle was there, what was he doing? And why did the villagers act like that?

It’s incredible how they gave such an ugly and disturbing boss this beautiful OST. I just wish they would’ve done more with them instead making them a copy paste enemy. We could’ve at least had a really strong third godskin guy in farum azula instead of the old two. Basically the leader of the church or something in that direction.

Wish the Godskin Duo fight was better quality, but the Godskin Aspotle and Noble as character designs are extremely cool, and the music is phenomenal in their fights. I hope the Godskin's get further implementation/background in the DLC or DLC's that they have planned for Elden RIng.
The game literally gives u the option to summon Berhal Warmaster Who heals and had more HP than them individually And u can also summon your stuff The fight is not made to be fought alone If u summon Berhal he will not die even if u let hin fight alone
You find the big dude strangely near Ranni's real body in Liurnia's tower... And that skin is no more there. I think it's safe to say someone came around.
I guess Fromsoft liked their soundtrack so much, hence why we see so many of them in the game. It is a good soundtrack now: reflects their nobility but also their twisted and depraved nature: they have serpent-like features and wear the skins of their victims as clothing. Also, just noticed the back of the Noble's apron is covered in hair. I could have done without seeing that particular detail. :p

I like that the noble’s “robes” have hems, while the apostle wears much more ragged “robes” with frayed (flayed?) edges. Just love the design dichotomy between these two. It’s clear that their visual design was meant for a duo fight. If only their gameplay design was…

I think they are somehow linked to Rykard or the Volcano Serpent. They have serpentine features, one of them is in Volcano Manor and the Duo is in Farum Azula where Bernahl also invades you. Did the Dusk Eyed Queen have some short of alliance with Volcano Manor?
I love the godskins but i just feel like they should have made it 2 fights where you fight them alone. Instead of reusing them and then the awful duo fight. Idk could replace the duo fight with some kind of hybrid of the 2

After seeing Messemer the Impaler in the *_Shadow of the Erdtree_* trailer, I'm pretty convinced that he's related to the Godskin Duo with his overly lanky features, sparse armor, and the snakes entwined with him, not to mention seemingly wielding a flame of Destined Death. I wouldn't be surprised if his mother was the Gloam-Eyed Queen herself, and the features of the Godskin Duo are just hinting at a fraction of what we're about to find on June 21st.

There is something about these guys that has always frustrated me. We see demigods through the game and only a few gods. And they have city destroying levels of power. But these dudes have skinned most likely dozens of gods. HOW, WHEN! Each god in the game is basically a household name and you are telling me that DOZENS of gods got skinned alive and nobody mentions it! That’s a bigger event than most “gigantic historical events” in the games lore! WTF I’m going insane!!!
they didn't skin gods themselves. They've skinned ordinary people in mockery of gods. We can see that in that windmill village where you fight the godskin apostle - the dancing women skinned people for him to make clothes . there's a ghost near the entrance begging to not be skinned.

I would've loved a Godskin ending where the Erdtree is burned in black flame and the Greater Will is killed for good, and ending where the black flame of the Erdtree would defend and keep all outer gods out of the Lands Between.
It's interesting their eyes are golden. It seems that despite all of that they still have the Grace. Or maybe they took it from people they killed. Although I assume they have it because their power is almost gone, so there is nothing to overwrite the "default" Erdtree blessing. BTW, does anyone know what's up with the whole talk about the "grace in the eyes" that the Tarnished lack (and many NPCs notice instantly)? Many enemies have golden eyes, but what about regular people? As far as I've seen soldiers have empty white eyes, the Nox have grey eyes and Rennala has blue eyes. I have no clue about non-Tarnished NPCs (except for Millicent, her eyes are indeed golden, but what about Kenneth or the Castle Morne knight-guy?). If normal people in the Lands Between don't have golden/glowing/whatever eyes than why are we instantly recognized as Tarnished?
I was interested in this as well, because godfrey lost his golden eyes as he fulfilled his purpose to the erdtree, this might mean that the nobles are actually serving the erdtree a purpose. This makes sense as the gloam eyes queen you said is indeed empyrean.

After doing some research with professional tools (zweihander and a looking glass) I realised that soldiers (both those light armored ones and heavier ones) do indeed have golden eyes. So my conclusion is that it's a normal thing for the people of the Lands Between.
Well obviously all tarnished lost their grace with Godfrey and left , others died, because before Godfrey people didn't have the Erdtree blessing wich don't let die, that's why again like other souls games people in the lands between are zombies, the people who born during the Erdtree era got that blessing and just have eternal life. While the people that came before became tarnished along Godfrey. But we know before the Erdtree there was the crucible and The God Skins and their queen could be the rulers before Godfrey and Marika and maybe the Dragon Lord before them as you can read in his Talisman he was also Elden Lord even before the Erdtree times.

I wonder if miyazaki was inspired by the Aztec practice of wearing flayed skins for this. They would wear a whole piece of skin like a one piece onesy that also covered their face with the hands of the skin dangling down like grotesque winter mittens. Google Xipe Totec who is a god that represents this. In this context they would wear the skin of flayed sacrifices who represented sacred figures or were considered sacred so their skin was symbolically god skin and so was their flesh which could be ritually eaten by a select few.
Though the lyrics translations could be false, there is a lot of details in the designs that goes with the lyrics. How the faces on the godskin noble’s robe look like they are frozen in horror, and the faces have the golden eyes touched by grace indicating that they killed them and wore their skin to steal the divinity and the grace they lost.
The lyrics were a lie. Pretty sure the original poster came out and admitted that to everyone. Also, he wrote that it said “our father” several times, which was easy to tell was not the lyrics
@@matiasluukkanen7718 Yes of course, but mechanically/conceptually they don't stand out to me quite as strongly as Storm King, Maiden Astraea, Micolash, Sif, Artorias, Lady Maria, etc. And then the repetition really does start to drag down the quality. The catacombs bosses for instance I feel like don't compare well to the unique chalice dungeon bosses in BB.
You know them having serpentine features would explain some of their abilities. The apostle can stretch his body similar to how the serpent warriors and real life snakes stretch themselves with their various over-laying scales acting as a coil. The noble can inflate the skin (or dead skin) on his body similar to some specific real life snakes but in a supercharged fashion like when he rolls or jumps up into the air for a slam by inflating himself. Not to mention he has a snake tail. Very cool design. I never thought about them this way before but I’m glad I found out, adds more lore to godskins
So the path of snake is one to eat or kill gods but the path Rykard and godskin apostles are slightly different then? There's clearly both a link and divergence i think.

The way he walks slowly towards after seemingly coming out of nowhere. On top of a village where the inhabitants are dancing and shit. Almost like they are in a trance. It's creepy. I wonder why the apostle was there, what was he doing? And why did the villagers act like that?

It’s incredible how they gave such an ugly and disturbing boss this beautiful OST. I just wish they would’ve done more with them instead making them a copy paste enemy. We could’ve at least had a really strong third godskin guy in farum azula instead of the old two. Basically the leader of the church or something in that direction.
Idk if the OST is really beautiful yes it sounds like it is but the actual lyrics of it are disturbing i don't have them on hand rn but basically the choire sings about taking the skin of others and torture and death and how the're gonna burn the gods and that they envy those who have grace so they wanne steal it by skining people and wearing them you can actually find out the whole thing just look up Godskin OST lyrics on YT but i gotta say how disturbing the OST is its still my favorite so far

Wish the Godskin Duo fight was better quality, but the Godskin Aspotle and Noble as character designs are extremely cool, and the music is phenomenal in their fights. I hope the Godskin's get further implementation/background in the DLC or DLC's that they have planned for Elden RIng.
The fight just feels like a gank because they don't fuse together well they are both good at what the other already has like range and damage

I guess Fromsoft liked their soundtrack so much, hence why we see so many of them in the game. It is a good soundtrack now: reflects their nobility but also their twisted and depraved nature: they have serpent-like features and wear the skins of their victims as clothing.
Also, just noticed the back of the Noble's apron is covered in hair. I could have done without seeing that particular detail. :p

I like that the noble’s “robes” have hems, while the apostle wears much more ragged “robes” with frayed (flayed?) edges. Just love the design dichotomy between these two. It’s clear that their visual design was meant for a duo fight.

It's fat from others, like gods, but it seems to be that the Noble is rather on the beefy or burly side. Kind of like Smough actually
I just noticed something. The gemstone set on their hood and chest is purple, Melina's right eye in the Sauron ending is...purple. Godskins served the Gloam Eyed Queen...any connections?

I think they are somehow linked to Rykard or the Volcano Serpent. They have serpentine features, one of them is in Volcano Manor and the Duo is in Farum Azula where Bernahl also invades you. Did the Dusk Eyed Queen have some short of alliance with Volcano Manor?

After seeing Messemer the Impaler in the *_Shadow of the Erdtree_* trailer, I'm pretty convinced that he's related to the Godskin Duo with his overly lanky features, sparse armor, and the snakes entwined with him, not to mention seemingly wielding a flame of Destined Death.
I wouldn't be surprised if his mother was the Gloam-Eyed Queen herself, and the features of the Godskin Duo are just hinting at a fraction of what we're about to find on June 21st.

There is something about these guys that has always frustrated me. We see demigods through the game and only a few gods. And they have city destroying levels of power. But these dudes have skinned most likely dozens of gods. HOW, WHEN! Each god in the game is basically a household name and you are telling me that DOZENS of gods got skinned alive and nobody mentions it! That’s a bigger event than most “gigantic historical events” in the games lore! WTF I’m going insane!!!
they didn't skin gods themselves. They've skinned ordinary people in mockery of gods. We can see that in that windmill village where you fight the godskin apostle - the dancing women skinned people for him to make clothes . there's a ghost near the entrance begging to not be skinned.

I would've loved a Godskin ending where the Erdtree is burned in black flame and the Greater Will is killed for good, and ending where the black flame of the Erdtree would defend and keep all outer gods out of the Lands Between.
It's interesting their eyes are golden. It seems that despite all of that they still have the Grace. Or maybe they took it from people they killed. Although I assume they have it because their power is almost gone, so there is nothing to overwrite the "default" Erdtree blessing.
BTW, does anyone know what's up with the whole talk about the "grace in the eyes" that the Tarnished lack (and many NPCs notice instantly)? Many enemies have golden eyes, but what about regular people? As far as I've seen soldiers have empty white eyes, the Nox have grey eyes and Rennala has blue eyes. I have no clue about non-Tarnished NPCs (except for Millicent, her eyes are indeed golden, but what about Kenneth or the Castle Morne knight-guy?). If normal people in the Lands Between don't have golden/glowing/whatever eyes than why are we instantly recognized as Tarnished?
I was interested in this as well, because godfrey lost his golden eyes as he fulfilled his purpose to the erdtree, this might mean that the nobles are actually serving the erdtree a purpose. This makes sense as the gloam eyes queen you said is indeed empyrean.
@@Kebab_with_extra_garlic_mayo depraved perfumers also have golden eyes. Same with the Night's Cavalerly. And I think regular perfumers too. I wonder why soldiers don't, are they too mad and broken for the Grace to manifest in their eyes?
After doing some research with professional tools (zweihander and a looking glass) I realised that soldiers (both those light armored ones and heavier ones) do indeed have golden eyes. So my conclusion is that it's a normal thing for the people of the Lands Between.
Well obviously all tarnished lost their grace with Godfrey and left , others died, because before Godfrey people didn't have the Erdtree blessing wich don't let die, that's why again like other souls games people in the lands between are zombies, the people who born during the Erdtree era got that blessing and just have eternal life. While the people that came before became tarnished along Godfrey. But we know before the Erdtree there was the crucible and The God Skins and their queen could be the rulers before Godfrey and Marika and maybe the Dragon Lord before them as you can read in his Talisman he was also Elden Lord even before the Erdtree times.
Perhaps they steal people's grace?
Or something else is offering its own grace to them?

Godskin Apostles are the Ed Gein/Leatherface of FromSoft.
I wonder if miyazaki was inspired by the Aztec practice of wearing flayed skins for this. They would wear a whole piece of skin like a one piece onesy that also covered their face with the hands of the skin dangling down like grotesque winter mittens. Google Xipe Totec who is a god that represents this. In this context they would wear the skin of flayed sacrifices who represented sacred figures or were considered sacred so their skin was symbolically god skin and so was their flesh which could be ritually eaten by a select few.
Though the lyrics translations could be false, there is a lot of details in the designs that goes with the lyrics. How the faces on the godskin noble’s robe look like they are frozen in horror, and the faces have the golden eyes touched by grace indicating that they killed them and wore their skin to steal the divinity and the grace they lost.
The lyrics were a lie. Pretty sure the original poster came out and admitted that to everyone. Also, he wrote that it said “our father” several times, which was easy to tell was not the lyrics

And then the repetition really does start to drag down the quality. The catacombs bosses for instance I feel like don't compare well to the unique chalice dungeon bosses in BB.

You know them having serpentine features would explain some of their abilities. The apostle can stretch his body similar to how the serpent warriors and real life snakes stretch themselves with their various over-laying scales acting as a coil. The noble can inflate the skin (or dead skin) on his body similar to some specific real life snakes but in a supercharged fashion like when he rolls or jumps up into the air for a slam by inflating himself. Not to mention he has a snake tail. Very cool design. I never thought about them this way before but I’m glad I found out, adds more lore to godskins
So the path of snake is one to eat or kill gods but the path Rykard and godskin apostles are slightly different then? There's clearly both a link and divergence i think.
