Your video is brilliant man. The details in the setup was surgical. Very well done on the information explained so well.

I really enjoyed this very interesting and informative video. Sometimes (most times, imo) you can’t beat a live recording and I love what you added just to open things up a bit.
Really liked the song too, right up my street!

Just stumbled upon your channel, great content and beautiful studio! Really jibe with your technique, philosophy,....... I've been doing a lot lately with just one or two ribbons.

Great stuff. Now, let's talk about that mic.

It's a 1932, the first year RCA started mass producing ribbons. It's kind of the precursor to the 44 series, on paper it starts rolling off the high end really quickly starting around 6k, but funny enough I've found it's actually pretty bright for a ribbon mic (you just have to EQ that information back in). A little bit noisy, but that's the tradeoof for cool character sometimes. I've thought about doing a video on the PB-90. I did one a long time ago comparing it with my other ribbons I had at the time (th-cam.com/video/1iBigbdiHHM/w-d-xo.html), I'll think about a cool way to do a video on it at some point if people are interested.

Thanks so much! Awesome tips! I am using two ribbons in XY about chin level for acoustic and vocals..It is very natural with just a little reverb and little soft knee stereo compression..Love that sound using the Universal plug-in.

I love my AEA R88, it's a whole other beast doing stuff like this in stereo!

That mic sounds great! What pre and eq do you use as my AEA R44 is not near that bright in the top end?

Your content is insane. Oh, and I dont think you talked the Ocean Way up too much. On the contrary - it might seem like a subtle thing, but it totally sets the tone. I have it and it is probably my favourite UAD plugin of alll times.

      It's a solid plugin!

are you adding the ocean way plugin as an insert or aux track? thanks for this great video!

I’m using both as AUX tracks 100% wet and feeing them the dry signals. Ocean Way is in the “reverb” mode and not Re-Mic.
