Thanks man, video was a big help
My pleasure!
Thank you sir
My pleasure!
Great video!
Thanks for the visit
Good jo overall however I didn't see you put that air rod connected to the CV boot back in 😒
And then they wonder why mechanics make so much!
Looks like I need some additional tools.
Thanks for a great video.
Never too many tools!
Thanks now I can change mine my Buick Lesabre was pulling to the left so I’m changing everything
What are those parts coated with ? .My tie rods are a light colored tan rust which are going to have to be heated to get the ends off. I think I will just take the grinder to it and replace both ends. I think if I compare the two and or measure the lengths of them side by side off the vehicle will set my tow . I found this 2001 Lesabre with 134,000 miles on it so it might last me a while. Thanks for taking the time to show us your skills.
Thank you your video was a great help please keep them coming.
Ur welcome!
Many thanks!
Many you are welcomes!
I'm trying to change the outer tie rod on a 2004 LeSabre, and it appears that the nut is integrated into the outer tie rod.
Have you ever seen this before?
18 mm socket or wrench
Hammer
13 mm wrench
Pliers
Tie rod tool
Screwdriver
Side cutters
1/2 in rachet
Great video. It helped a lot. Thank you.
My pleasure! glad I could help.
Great video but I didn’t here any fbombs or cuss words. You seem like a grateful mechanic with lots of talent and knowledge!
I appreciate that!
Good video. Nicely explained & good camera work. Sure every time I do tie rod ends, the nuts spins with the tie rod. LOL
Thank you!
My method of refitting the tierod end is to mark the position of the lock nut on the old rack end and match it up to the new one on the bench..That way thread counts and number of turns doesn't matter...It works for me.
Yes That would work too. And less work if I don't have to do any counting.
ZIGgassedUP ... that’s if your changing the rack.
I’ve measured with a calipers works also!
The tool does well, there's so many inner tie rod tools and styles. The replacement parts don't always match up like you shown good idea of two reference points. Cheers.
well the grinder almost came out to .make it fit!
So you reused the old outer tie rod 🤔
Why not if it isn't bad? waste of money. and if it would go bad in future, easiest to replace. So yep I did!
This is awesome- techniques work for 2002 Buick Lesabre custom -Thank You
+Francisco Jalteco my pleasure!
Wondering that very thing! We have a 2000 Lesabre we are fixing up to sell. But a shop said they would have to replace the entire steering rack to fix the drivers side inner tie rod! What do you think of that? $400 job!

Hi, Disgruntled Mechanic, not sure if youd still reapond to this video after so long, but I tried to do this job on my park avenue and I busted the plastic around the inner end and cannot figure out how to replace it, do I need to keep that plastic part or can I install without it, and if I need it, anywhere you know I could find it? I cant find it anywhere.
I have a 2005 Buick Century. I had the outer tie rods replaced and went to get an alignment and they said the inner tie rods were frozen. So dumb question, is there only one inner tie rod?
Admirable video! Dude! Thanks!
TY!
Very similar to how I do it on VW & Audi's... nice that the basics are similar for all makes & models!
wouldn't it be nice if everything was standard on vehicles and just fit from model to model??
The Disgruntled Mechanic Oh that would be nice!
can you do this without the special tool? :(
I have used a pipe wrench to do the job if you can fit it where you need it.
@@TheDisgruntledMechanic na theres no way. i'll have to rent the tool. regardless thanks for your videos on the 2001 buick century. very informative and helpful.
Any clue why there would be "fluid" in the boot?
I would look for a tear in. Even a very small one will let liquid in
Very nice job in showing the steps involved in replacing the tie-rod-end Mike. Do you have a part number for the tool that you used to remove and install it? Maybe having the part number in the description can help other viewers know what you were using. Thanks Mike...
I can do that Terry. Thanks for the suggestion!
You're quite welcomed Mike and looks like you're getting that Buick back some new life. I've got some work to do on my 2000 LeSabre, so I'm sure we'll see him in an upcoming video... Take care...
will be looking for the videos!
Hope you like them Mike and have a great night!
I did this job a while back on my 99 Deville (Same exact set up). While you made a great video, I would suggest using a GM Inner Tie Rod Crimping Tool to crimp the new tie rod in place. Not sure if its absolutely necessary, but GM does it at the factory and I certainly don't want to be the one driving if this thing comes loose.
probably not a bad idea. A punch and hammer can be used too to dent it in. better to be safe than sorry for sure and do it.
Very cool great video!
TY!
great video, thank you!
My pleasure!
Nice job Mike.
Thank you!
Nice job DM. I hate it when my balls get rusty. I hope you fix them the same way I do. Preventative maintenance is the key to ward off rusty balls. Thanks for posting, big guy.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Brysen Shiloh Instablaster =)
@Raymond Korbin i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Raymond Korbin It worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much, you really help me out :D
@Brysen Shiloh you are welcome :D
Hey thanks so much for taking the time to make this video.
I am replacing inner and outer tie rods, control arms and stabilizer bushing.
Everything was going great until the inner tie rod!
The only thing I was wondering about is in the service manual it said to hold onto the rack with another wrench on the flat spot. Is that a necessary step?
The manual said you could damage your rack and pinion if you don't.
I certainly would do it the way the manual says. Without holding it you could damage the rack with torque used to get the tie rod out. hope this helps,
Thank you for the reply.
Got side tracked putting in the shift kit while I wait for the tool from town, but the tie rods will be replaced later today.
Looks like I'll have to call in a helper.
love that inner tie rod tool handy
Ok
Good job Mike. Good video !!
TY!
Why would you replace the tie rod but not the tie rod end? How can you tell which you need?
Thanks it help me lot good way to explain things in
Nice dewalt toolbox.
thanks
great vid brother, cheers The Dizz
Thanks Dizz!
Did I see you win a scanner Danner book at etcg meet up?
why yes you did.
What are the torque specs for the inner tie rod end? It isn't listed in my Haynes manual. Thanks
According to alldatadiy it says to torque to 74 ft. lbs.
What size is the inner tie rod tool ? Would you happen to know if it's the same size tool for the 2000-2005 Lesabre? Thanks
what's the torque specs for the inner tie rod
Tight!...lol
According to alldatadiy it says to torque to 74 ft. lbs.
Morning Mike. Those new body rubbers really stand out now, all nice and clean. Your balls are rusty, that the Problem. lol Is that tie rod tool good for any vehicle? Nice work buddy.
Not sure if it is good for all vehicles but with being able to change the adapters I am sure it fits a lot!
Cool.
nice video
thank you!
I also want to say that your video was very helpful thank you. I tried renting the kits from oreilys and autozone but they didn't have the right piece with them. Do you know which size the piece is? I found item # 69619 at harbor freight and I'm gonna head that way to pick it up if it's right?
+Brian Williams I do not know the actual number on my kit from harbor freight or the size of the insert and I am not at home to check for sure. Sorry.

Where can I get the removal tool?
That particular on is just a harbor freight one. Or Amazon: www.amazon.com/ABN-Inner-Tie-Tool-Removal/dp/B01BUI5XJ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485360363&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=tie+rod+removal+tool&psc=1
Thumbs up!
TY!
Good video DM . Fan now . Never had FB either( I thought I was weird) What was the problem with inner t. Rod?
Too much play in the inner tie rod. should have shown that I guess. Thanks for being a fan!
Loc tite on inner tie rod ends? Waste of loc tite.
yeah sure don't want to waste a few pennies worth of Loctite keeping stuff in tight!
