I've been homeschooling for 8yrs now a my biggest tips are:
    - don't push too much too soon
    - don't compare the way your family "schools" to other families
    - join a like-minded co-op
    - while the kiddos are really young focus on reading books to them and let them learn through play
    - enjoy the gift of being able to homeschool...even on the rough days!
We use Masterbooks & The Good and The Beautiful

We’ve cloth diapered all 3 of our kids from the start. 2.5 year old is potty trained but we cloth diapered him for 24 months and our twins are 14 months and cloth diapered from the start as well….all this to say all 3 have leaked overnight no matter which inserts and brands we have used…especially in the first few months when they’re up frequently to nurse. They’re all just heavy heavy night wetters! We use organic disposables for nighttime. We tried everything and they’ve never not leaked. I feel a lot better about 2 disposables a day than if we had like 12-15 disposables a day!

Cloth diapering is so easy, glad to see you making the switch. Elimination communication is another great way to reduce diaper use.

Loved this video, Erin! We have been cloth diapering our son since he was 6 weeks old and it's been a great journey that my husband and I are very passionate about. In terms of leakage, there's a few things I would check. First, the rise of the diaper (essentially, the crotch/front snaps of the diaper). If it's too loose, the leg holes will be loose and allow leaks. Next, one thing we do for night time is doubling up on inserts. We use the diaper brand La Petit Ourse and they are our faves! Their bamboo/hemp inserts are great. Yes it makes their cloth diaper fluffy bum a bit fluffier, but we haven't noticed any discomfort from our son and rarely ever have leaks. I truly believe that cloth diapering has attributed to no diaper rash or irritation for our son either. Anyway, I'll stop the ramble there but thanks again for sharing your family and your lives with us. I love your videos! :)

I used wool diaper covers at night. I don't know if as a plant based eater if you are okay using wool. I bought second hand wool sweaters and made my own. I figured that was better for my baby than plastic on them at night (polyester diaper covers) and better for the planet and the sheep and my wallet..there are many patterns online and its super easy. It's up to you. We never had a leak and she potty trained herself at night at 8 or 9 months. It was the best decision I have ever made. Good luck!!!

Little guy is almost 21 months old now and we've cloth diapered him since day 1 (my husband has actually)! I just asked if he has any tips on preventing leaks at night and he swears by using prefolds (instead of all in ones or pocket diapers), he says prefolds are also the reason why little guy has learnt to use the potty so quickly and effortlessly (because they actually feel wet after they've gone when wearing a prefold, so would be much more motivated to communicate and stay dry). Good luck with the move! (we also moved cross country when little one was 4 months old!)

If you’re using modern cloth nappies with inserts, we used charcoal infused inserts for nighttime. We also used two (sometimes three) at night to make them more absorbable and to prevent leaks.

You are an inspiration! My husband and I are Nebraska natives who strive to be health conscious and eco-friendly. I am not vegan, but you have given me ideas of how to implement more plant based meals in to my diet and I have realized that I don't NEED to have meat to complete a meal! Congrats on starting the cloth diaper journey - I have 2 friends who swear by it.

Homeschooling is the biggest blessing. The joy of no pressure and realizing how much they are learning every day without curriculum. Play play play is all they need while they’re young with lots of books and outdoor time. That’s all they really need until 5/6 depending on their desire to do bookwork.
Cloth diapering at night was so tough for us too. I was using bum genius with an extra layer of fluff, but then just resorted to overnight disposable diapers because I need my sleep.

i've been homeshooling kids for over 20 years and tried it all in terms of curriculum. For my last three children I created a montessori environment in my home using 3-6, 6-9 curriculum which then morphed into child directed learning. Best choice ever. I suggest reading the work of Peter Gray and checking out the alliance for self directed learning

I am a mother of a (radical) unschooled daughter. My daughter is 24, became a firefighter at 18, bought her first home at 22, and is now a firefighter/advanced EMT. There is no place your children want more when they are young than to be with their parents/family.
I have been friends with, and unschooled at the same time, Dayna Martin, for many many years. She lives in Florida, is vegan, and wrote 'Radical Unschooling'. She's down to earth and raised four (?) children.

I got my tips for cloth diapering from my mom and mother in law. They had us in the 70s and 80s and plastic diapers were too expensive. Tip buy one size bigger to put on top of the regular size diaper for sleep time. If stains are a problem, vinegar in the wash and the sun will naturally bleach the diapers! And have fun with all the pretty diaper covers😊which I used the diaper covers more than once.

You're getting some great advice below on cloth diapering. As a mom of 8 and grammy of more than a dozen let me just encourage you that they are worth the effort. A bonus is that usually cloth diapered children potty train a bit easier because they feel the slight discomfort of the wetness and mess. Disposables cushion the feel for babies quite a lot as a result of promoting dryness. Best to you all in your adventures moving forward!

I used a cloth diaper service. Great for busy moms. They pick up dirties and drop off cleans once a week. They give you a no stink pail to keep them in. For night time try letter folding a diaper in thirds. Put right up the middle and then a second diaper as usual. Hope it helps. Also when your done with diapers, save them. They make the best dust rags or car wash towels. 😊

Cloth diapers are easy. Get a simple diaper bucket with a good lid, Diaper Duck, (simple tool to dunk/swish/squeeze out the water). Wash on hot with added borax and do a second rinse with a cup of white vinegar. Nighttime, Gerber plastic pants, I know plastic, but they can be washed and reused. Save the wraps for daytime. Good luck.

Hi Career Nanny and Early Childhood Homeschooler here! 👋🏻 Homeschool is 100% the way to go if you can afford to stay home or pay for a private tutor - and remember that it doesn’t have to be 6-8hrs a day like regular school so it may not be as expensive as you think, especially if they’re still very young or if you do a share or a pod with one or two other families. You or the tutor can really work specifically with your child in the way and at the pace that they need, lesson plans tailored to what the child is interested in and ready for, there’s no comparison to other kids to make them feel ashamed for not getting as good of grades, etc… it’s just the best way to keep learning fun and engaging while also making sure your child is learning what you want them to learn. I don’t mean omitting the basics like math and science, but rather learning more of the intangible things like failing is okay because we learn from our mistakes and now you know one more way to NOT do something, as opposed to standardized testing which says that if you sit down for a 2 hour long test (like any kid enjoys that or has the attention span or patience to do so) and you only get 60/100 right, you’ve failed, you’re not smart, and you might have to get held back and live with the social repercussions of your friends moving on without you because we don’t have time to review the areas you struggled with because we need to move on to the next lesson for the rest of the kids in the class. Talk about creating unhealthy comparison and shame around failure when some of the most successful people in history have made some of the biggest failures, learned from them, and then got up and tried again (Walt Disney, Thomas Edison, etc…)
If it’s within your means, I think it’s absolutely the way to go and you can have them join separate music classes or sports teams so they’re still getting socialization, sticking with commitments and learning to work in teams. That’s also a much easier way to ensure that your child is spending time around the right people of your choosing - teachers, coaches and other kids - and getting the right input and influence.
And finally it gives your child time to be a child. Going to school 6-8hrs a day and then coming home to do more homework, squeeze dinner in there somewhere and then go right to sleep because they have to wake up before the sun is even out? No wonder kids burn out and learn to hate school. Let them have their free time to learn and explore the world on their own terms through their own play. People skills and life skills are just as important (if not more important) than academics skills. And if someday they decide they want to be a doctor or something academic, they’ll have to start from the bottom anyway in college because the American school systems are so screwed up that all lower level G.E. College courses are mandatory because no one trusts that a public school high school diploma even means you learned that stuff.
Another great option if at-home schooling isn’t right for you would be Montessori or Waldorf schools if the philosophies fit your family, but they can also be quite expensive. Still better than a full-on private school though, in my opinion. Hope this helps someone!

I did cloth diapers 40 years ago and what I did is they sell a center extra diaper thingy,so we had boys and the center has a different second diaper if you will- you put in the middle just to make it extra absorbent.

I'm going through something similar and feeling very overwhelmed! After 20 years we want to sell our home and move to Italy. Just decluttering and getting rid of family items is so overwhelming! My anxiety takes over while I'm excited about the possibilities still nervous and trying to get all the timing and everything organized is a lot to deal with! Seeing you and other people going through similar situations is very helpful!

We are new homeschoolers (going on year 3) Best decision we ever made!! My best advice is kinda the best advice you can give a parent... Don't follow other people's advice 🤣 Find your people, find your path, find what works for your children AND you. You (you're husband and you 😄) are the best teachers for your kids!! 💚
We also cloth diaper and have for years. We purchased a lot of used cloth but our newer ones we had to "prep" by washing them a bunch of times and all that. I found we had leaks because I didn't do it that well at first. After a couple more washes they absorbed much better. Lol Also, as they got bigger they needed a little extra at night for our heavy wetters. I just put two inserts in one diaper. Works 🤷🏽‍♀️

So much going on for y’all for sure!! Prayers for it all to go smooth Mama 🙏❤️ Also we cloth diapered for a while and yes, at night could get tricky and what we had to do was get extra bamboo liners and just add extra to the cloth diapers/diaper covers. I actually still have a big set of super cute ones. Diapers, diaper covers, liners, etc. might donate to a cousin. But yah, good for you for trying! 👍🏼👏🏼 hang in there, also that was cool to hear you said that Kelsey was from Iowa like me! 😁 God bless.

Cloth diapering- I just changed my LO before I went to bed as they were sleeping. You can also try the plastic (ugh I know) over the cloth to prevent leaks it also can be used for max in transition when wearing undies if he might have an accident at night.
Don’t forget to add reusable/washable pee pads to both of their beds. It really helps you as a mom. Either just place it doesn’t under them OR place two sets:
    Mattress~>pee pad~>sheet~>pee pad~> sheet.
So if max has an accident at night all you have to do is take off the sheet and pad and BOOM you already have the next layer made for you.
Definitely helped us in the middle of the night.
Good luck with everything guys! 💜
(Having my husband look at the homes to narrow down what we would want. Hoping you will be getting an email from me so we can talk about building🙏🤞🏼)
We will definitely need to hook up about the homeschool Co-op, I am also using The good and beautiful.

What brand of cloth are you using and what type of inserts? I have heard that hemp/bamboo inserts hold more liquid. We mostly have microfiber and just double or triple at night. Makes the diaper huge but that’s the only thing that will prevent leaks for us!

There is something that is a bit irrelevant for today’s video, but I have been thinking to ask for a while now lol. I love you are trying to get rid off toxins and live a mindful life. However, you never mentioned( or ai have newer seen)what do you use to wash your clothes. I am very curious. I have made a lot of changes in my life thanks to you guys and now I would like to change my washing pods to something more eco friendly . I was trying a few from the supermarkets, but I didn’t have much luck😉 I would be very grateful, if you could recommend something that works! Thank you very much in advance! And good luck to all the new plans!

That is why we stopped cloth diaper ring. We couldn’t find a way to avoid leaks at night. I went over countless reviews on pads and nothing worked for us. Everything was big huge bulky and my baby just couldn’t sleep comfortably. I couldn’t find anything to soak up the P. And I didn’t want to keep waking my child up at night time. It just didn’t seem right. So I stopped for a while. Also I would suggest getting a sprayer on your toilet. I never did that and I think it would’ve made a pretty big difference. Do you use inserts that are attached to your cloth diapers? Or do you have to pull the inserts out every time you want to wash the diaper in the wash machine?

    • @MS-lg3ie
      @MS-lg3ie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

There are these things called booster pads that can really help at night time. However it might be hard to find some thing that you feel comfortable putting on your baby skin. That really helped us from time to time but ultimately I just couldn’t do class over a bedtime. I had to do the best diaper I could find for bedtime. Good luck! Also don’t beat yourself up if this isn’t the right season to start?? Maybe you should start after your move? Whatever you think is best trust your gut. And give yourself Grace if you don’t do it perfect every time.
