Hey Emily. Just wanted to use this opportunity to say Thanks for your tutorials and examples. You helped me a lot recently. All the best, and stay healthy...
If you want to link the facing ratio directly you have to hide and unhide the shading attributes on the "sampler info" you can do that by clicking on the 3 lines on top of each other. and then you just have to connect the shading nodes.
Great Tutorial. Just having dificulties with the new version of Arnold textures. It doesn't have the Refraction Setting anymore. I linked the Ramp to "Transmission" and it's fine, but when i put them together on layered shader they doesn't blend. Can you point me to righ direction, plz? I'm new with Arnold.
I'm using aiStandardSurface since aiStandard is no longer an option in 2018 and I do not see an option to edit 'Refraction' in the Property Editor or Attribute Editor for this material; is this located somewhere else now?
Hello! Thanks for watching. Yes, the material attributes changed unfortunately. I believe the refraction settings are now controlled by the IOR in the Transmission attributes. It is kind of annoying when they change the materials, but I will probably make an updated version of this tutorial for 2018!
thanks but can you please explain which one is the best and fast renderer technique because you all have done but at last your work become stand by because of long lasting rendering processes ....actually when you do the rendering of subsurface....in organic mesh....!!!!!
Im using Maya 2018, aiStandard is no longer an option and I have been told to use aiStandardSurface instead. How would I create the outter surface using the new version of Maya?
madstylesnz it used to when I created this tutorial. Please note it’s not Arnold’s layered shader. If following these steps exactly does not work then the version of Maya you are using may not support this process. What version are you using?
@@EmilyMcDougallArt 2018, I think I'm gonna give up on mental ray in regards to layered shaders, I haven't tried Arnold cos I know nothing about it and I wanted to use the mental ray car paint shaders. I'll try Arnold tomorrow with this tutorial, do u know if they have a similar Arnold shader for car paint? Thx for your reply.
This is too complicated in Maya and makes me frustrated. In 3ds you just click "add material" to existing one and that's it. Some shading techniques in Maya are very annoying...

This is the only place I've found that can explain getting a falloff/toon edge in my Arnold shader in Maya 2017, thanks so much!

This is awesome, thanks for sharing Emily! Keep them coming.
Great tutorial Emily, but I still can't get rid of the black ring on the inner material, I unchecked opaque in the object attributes.
you voice is wow, plz more with mental ray and shader

Amazing tutorials, thx!
Nice tutorial . Thanks. can you do a tutorial of blood flowing inside the artery?
Hello. I dont have the ai Standard option. Help please!
Interesting watch, nice one E
Good work really:)
How could you make a shading network to render a wireframe of only the hard edges of a model?

Why not use the ai layered?

Hello! Thanks for watching. You would do it in the exact same way. I think they just renamed the material :)
Is it possible to pin point the extrude object for motion?
thx!
Please more motion graphics/mash tutorials :)

It happend when we work old version to new but great tutorial video please share more
Haha, yeah I still get myself confused as I first learned 2015. Thank you :)
