    Thanks once again! I may try this tonight. I most appreciate the look at salts and how they work. I use a wooden dowel about the circumference of a pencil (actually made for propping up plants) and your tip on soaking it in water is definitely something I'll do in the future. 🎨

    It is possible to lessen the "tack" of the torn pieces of masking tape by sticking the pieces to your skin before applying them to the paper. This will transfer some of the oil from your skin which will allow for easier removal and can avoid tearing the paper.

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes for sure or use a hairdryer to soften the glue as well 😊

  • @peggysimoni5365
    @peggysimoni5365 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just watched this video! So inspiring! After trying to tear the tape for my forest trees, the forest quickly shrank to just three trees! I must be missing the gene that allows you to make tree trunks out of tape!!! There wasn’t a lot of stick left on my tape after I manhandled it! I’m determined tho!! I will have an autumnal painting yet!!

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does take practice, maybe try a different masking tape 😊

    • @peggysimoni5365

    This year I joined an art workshop and one of the artist asked me about the color of Birch trees because she saw Birch trees has pink on it. I told her I didn’t even the name of that threes. I told her whatever and don’t care. I believe color’s belong to artists eyes. She was a bit upset and walk away from me. Since that I decide to drew Birch. Thank very much. I will try

    Im an old lady who is trying learn watercolor.I made a small one of the birch trees and it came out fairly good. My dear friend want me to paint her one.I am scared to death I can't do it. I wanted to big bigger..I have the paper
    ready ready and afraid to start with the tape .I guess I'll just to try to stay calm and start. I have only three hours to do it. So I hope to at least get the tape on in one sitting and another three hours to.om! I love your Autumn birch trees.

      I hope you go for it! Remember it is just a piece of paper and you can always wash off or even use the back.

    Is it okay to reuse the sea salt? Will the color you used in the previous painting, that now seems to be in the salt, be on the painting you reuse it on?

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think it would be a good idea as the salt will be contaminated with paint. However if you see bits of salt that look clear you could save those 😊

    Karen, what is your trick to etching out paint without damaging the paper? Every time I try, I end up with deep 'scars' in the paper and not the desired etched effect. What am I doing wrong?

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You need to make sure your paper is not too wet or too dry and keep a light touch when lifting off. Practice does make perfect. 😊

    • @marinaneary7502
      @marinaneary7502 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KarenRiceArt Thank you! I need to find that sweet spot where the paper is not too wet or too dry. I have been applying the etching too heavily.
