"Don't make things so hard on yourself." Or as a friend says, "easy is hard enough!." Love the technique for the birch trees.
yes its about having fun!
Ellen, I think you read my mind. Birches are my all time favourite trees to paint. This tutorial is fantastic. Thank you for recording this and uploading it.
Glad it was helpful!
This is an awesome , but simple, painting. This will be my thanksgiving postcards this November. Thank you, Ellen, for taking time to share your talent and creative ideas.
You are so welcome!
Love birch trees! What a great technique! - Can’t wait to try it. And, I love your bubbly self, Ellen. You’re always a bright spot in my day. 😊
These are so cool… i think i might try to paint those with a starry night background
yes!!
You are a genius Ellen!!, I love birch trees but always found them tedious to paint and have them look realistic. You have shown that we can do it in “5” minutes!, thank you so much!!.❤
Ellen this is a beautiful painting! It took me quite by surprised at how much it looked like a fire behind them at first but I calmed down and appreciated it for what it is. Thank you for sharing with us and I shall be trying this out asap xxx
Beautiful picture 15:41
Fire was my first thought 😮 but very cool effects
Amazing. I even love the soft scratchy sound.
Looks like a fall in Minnesota. Very pretty.
Geez - This is awesome Ellen ! Too much fun ! Thanks heaps ! Kind regards - Judi - Australia 😀

Finding that scritchy sound oddly satisfying...
Thanks Ellen, I’ve been trying to figure out how to paint a picture I took in Upstate NY some years ago. Fall picture so your colors will help me get started. 8:56 pm, September 29

I cant wait to do this technique again. I loved how my painting last fall turned out using this technique. Time to try it again! Thanks for the reminder!
I came back to add that, I love how my new one turned out! Instead of painting fall colors between the trees, I added elements drawn in ink; an owl, ,a hawk on a nest ,a cardinal, a woodpecker, a sparrow, a squirrel, fox, a rabbit, mice, spider's webs, butterflies, a cocoon and flowers and grasses to the forest floor.
It's one of my favorite pieces yet. Thank you sooo much, Ellen!

I wish I had acryla gouache. I only have craft acrylic which is kinda runny but I’ll give it a try. I wonder if it would make it easier to do subtle shading on the trees. Thanks, Ellen! I saw your previous video on this technique and I’ve been meaning to try it.
