Love your channel, keep up the great work and, greetings from the Caribbean (Trinidad). Since high school, I've yearned for a Series Land Rover. Bought myself an assembled in Trinidad, 1986 Series 3 for my 67th birthday in April and the ground-up restoration is just about almost done. I think the Series is a marvelously engineered utility vehicle, a blank canvas if you will, and the owner modifies and tricks it out to suit their unique needs and taste as evidenced by the myriad of end-user configurations..... mine is of course no exception. Great to see, so many people taking an interest restoring these great vehicles.
I really enjoy listening to you talking about Land Rovers, I can hear your love of them when you describe them in detail. I’m also a life long fanatic who has also owned a large list of different types over the years, I’ve never been without one. So even though I know a fair bit about the different models I still get great enjoyment from watching your videos!! Keep up the great work Geoff. 🙂👍
Hi Ian. Thank you for your kind words and it is great to hear that you are enjoying our videos. I think I can say that you have to be passionate about these vehicles to own one, otherwise it just doesn't work. Many thanks, kind regards, Geoff
I ran a 1951 series one sheep jeep for eight years in Cumberland UK & just loved it. If your seriously into people admiring them, you won't be disappointed, for driving a Ferrari ain't gonna get you as many fans, Lol!
Hi , the ref to wheelbase for fully floating should be referred to as " track". The semi floating is stronger than the fully floating. In some cases sand in wheel bearings caused the semi to fail in a bad way..the wheel and hub come out wide...but fully floating spare axles are easier to carry on expeditions So late series 1 went fully floating , good move.
Good video Geoff some very good information regarding components especially the electrical switches as i am part the way thru the Series 11A 109 i have some electrical components to replace including the ignition switch i will make sure i get original units.
Some good pointers. It is a scary leap buying an old land rover. I've had a few and still got caught out by a 2A with a marine carpet covered dash. It wasn't until I bought it and could strip the carpet off that I found the Bulkhead was completely stuffed. I would have paid $1k less if I had known, as it then turned from a quick resto to many years down the line and it is still waiting to be stripped down and fully rebuilt.
Hi AKA Nathan. Carpet is never a good sign in my book, looks nice but store moisture and leads to corrosion. Good luck with the rebuilt, I am sure the 2A is waiting patiently. Kind regards, Geoff
@@seriouslyseriesaustralia worst idea ever, as they all leak. This one had carpet and sound deaden both engine and cab side, so held water. A PO had clearly wanted to quite down the little 2.4l Isuzu engine.
Hey Mr Lewis! I have a question wrt protecting my gas, is it possible to add the newer defender ‘fuel lock’ gas caps to the series 3? And if yes, is it straight forward or nah?
Hi tevaughnalleyne. Sadly you can't, though if you worried about people getting into your gas you can get a locking lever. I have placed a link below to where you could purchase one. www.ebay.com.au/itm/224304104353?chn=ps&_ul=AU&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-139619-5960-0&mkcid=2&itemid=224304104353&targetid=&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9070898&poi=&campaignid=15791083372&mkgroupid=&rlsatarget=&abcId=9300816&merchantid=107564599&gclid=Cj0KCQjwgMqSBhDCARIsAIIVN1V6VQAAXOCZRj5dV40pxCAk2NFr8xBm7z9cRM0gDIhJQyS59wW28KIaAnAEEALw_wcB I hope this helps? Cheers Gippy as always. I always carry a spare switch just in case. Cheers Geoff

We have a similar series 1!
Interesting seeing the different conversions from other countries. All these conversions definitely are not good if you want something original
Fabulous.
Holden engine in a series 1 ? Sacrilegious
