    "It's not the best, but it's mine..." Yeah, that sums up Series Land Rover ownership. You never get them quite perfect, but the memories you make driving them on adventures make up for it.

    I have a SII as well. Same age. Like you said. No two Landies are the same. I have the two wiper motors up front. I also changed my bonnet with a series 3 one. Didnt like the tire on there and made my own swing away wheel carrier. Mine was a GB vehicle. Then he did service in the South African Army. Then he spent 20 years under a tree on my grandfathers property and now he is mine. Rebuilt the engin. Sourced a few parts from other cars. For exsample the steering colum and steering box is out of Jaguar XJ6 series 1. But I love the thing. Spend 50/50 time driving to fixing it but I learn something every time. Love the show. Keep up the great work. Cheers from SA.

    One of the best upgrades you can do to a Series Landy is to fit a skid-plate for underbelly protection. The factory never fitted any resulting in the gearbox cross-member scraping and getting dented on serious off-road endeavours. By the way Series 1 had much more durable rear axle half-shafts than later models.

    • @highloughsdrifter1629
      @highloughsdrifter1629 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Series One half-shafts might have been more durable, but they were a whatsit to change if you did break one, being semi-floating. Easier , and cheaper, to swap the whole axle for the S2 type.

    • @seriouslyseriesaustralia
      @seriouslyseriesaustralia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pasha. Thank you for sharing that, I am very touched that this video helped you to join the Landy club. To answer your second question, yes. It was a problem on all Land Rovers which ran the rover differential in the rear. Cheers Geoff

    Greetings Gentlemen. I’m in need of some counsel in regard to radiators. Would that series 3 drop into my 57 series1? Not your one of course, I’ll purchase my own. Are there any secret modifications I need to be aware of. Silly question that last one as there always is.

    • @seriouslyseriesaustralia
      @seriouslyseriesaustralia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Mr Foreman. Well there are a couple of options that you can look at in regards to a radiator for your Land Rover Series 1. The first options is that you can buy an aftermarket radiator which is fitted to the Series 2 in this video, which works fine and you may have to modify the odd bolt hole The second option you can get the original radiator re-cored/re-built and you can fit the radiator with modern core, which are more efficient and would work better with the demands made by your 3.5 liter V8 engine. If you go down this road make sure that you take your radiator to an establishment which knows of the mysterious ways of the Land Rover radiator. As the top tank tends to develop pin holes in the bottom of the hollows. This can be prevented by building up solder on the inside of the top of the tank, obviously when it is apart. Furthermore i would recommend either buying or making a cowling for the radiator which would help get the most out of your cooling system.
      Well I hope this helps you in your quest Mr Foreman, and there is no such thing as a silly question, though some say there is such a thing as a redundant question :) haha. Best of luck on your restoration project, Damon and myself have been enjoying your journey. If you require any further assistance please drop us a line via Facebook. Kind regards Geoff

      Gareth Ifan depending where the landy lives really. If you’re on the coastal area or somewhere with high rainfall ie Some areas of Tasmania. They do tend to rust in the usual spots. But if they live inland no rust and a easy life some could say preserved.
