    I think you have the best of both worlds. How fabulous to have a home base still in your Rv. Yet Able to be with your family in a home town. Then able to pop off. This is terrific. Travelling four to five hours is so enjoyable.

    Dear Outside,
    Such a nice homestead.
    Looks very, very nice. Good for
    You both. Just a thought, the
    burn pit is the perfect idea. If
    you get a grill from a old webber
    charcoal grill, is will fit perfectly
    in that 11 R 22.5 wheel. That's
    how we do it, gives the fire more
    air flow through the hand holes.
    Sure do enjoy You both.
    Sincerely, NAWALT.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bob Fox Hi Bob....The check engine light was telling us that the high press relief value was not working as it should. This is on the end of the common high pressure fuel rail. So it was replaced. We also had two oil leaks fixed as the engine is under warranty. So we then left Tuesday morning.

    Nice to see y'all are still having fun! Sorry about the engine light. Question for you: Are you going to or have you upgraded to the Hopper 3? Any plans to upgrade TV's to 4k (even though streaming content is expensive)? Just wondering. Keep the shiny side up!

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dunkonu23 Hopper 3 is not supported on the Travlier or a dome cat antenna at this time. There is talk it might, but it is unclear if it will happen. No 4K in the future for use. Not enough real content and will not see it over the air for some time and downloads...yes...a lot of data.

      Quick mod on the Trav'ler, swap the LNB for the Hybrid pro, get rid of the node and get the hybrid node. Move a cable and you're set. :) I may yet do it with my Trav'ler. I'm a tinkerer, though. I just had to ask the question, sir!

    How do you manage to get mail and packages from Amazon Prime while on the road?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We use Amazon Prime and thus just put in the address, with our name also on it, for the RV park we are in. As far as general mail, we use a mail forwarding service. All our mail goes to them and then we just have them send it to us whenever we would like. Most of our communications are paperless so we get very little mail. We use... www.sbimailservice.com/index.html (If you sign up, please let them know we referred you.)

    Hi David. I was wondering how many miles you have put on your Tiffin in the two years? Also, why did you choose a new Tiffin, instead of a used Marathon, or Newell? Thanks, and you two are fantastic!

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi...About 15,000. If we went with a used Marathon or Newell it would have to be an old one at this price point and likely would not even have slide outs. Seeing we full time, we also wanted the space for storage and neither of those lines have a lot of storage compared to a Tiffin or other motorhome. IMHO of course. (We did consider and did look into what you mentioned and that is what we found.)

    I am curious about what you have learned about routine mechanical maintenance to your rig? For example, the frequency and how you handle oil changes on that diesel while on the road? What about maintenance relative to the AquaHot system? You get the picture.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tom Adams Learned? Not much to learn here, you follow the manufacturers time line on oil changes, filters, etc. Same goes for the AquaHot and the generator. Only thing I guess I could mentioned is that if your coach air filter if a paper type...they be sure to replace it at least every two years. This is because the paper can brake down and if it gets sucked into the engine, it will be very costly.

    • @tomadams7502
      @tomadams7502 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, should have been a bit more specific.
      First, enjoy your videos and appreciate you taking the time to share them.
      You are clearly very detailed and hands on. You have provided much content about the design, construction, living space, etc. From a mechanical and maintenance perspective, I was wondering what you have learned? Do you do ANY of the maintenance yourself? If so, what have you learned in the process? Any hints or tips? Maybe a topic for a future video? If you take it in for maintenance, where do you go? What has been your experience? In short, any words of wisdom relative to engine, transmission, tire, generator, etc. maintenance?
      I have owned 5th wheels in the past; have quite a bit of experience with RVs. However, I have never owned a diesel pusher and was looking to see what you have learned about this aspect of owning one.
      Thanks again for your time.

  • @jtaylorb88
    @jtaylorb88 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hopefully they got it all sorted out by now for you. Hopefully it was an easy fix, what did it end up being that triggered the CEL?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +jtaylorb88 Hi…It was a bad HPCR High Press Release Valve. This is part of the high pressure fuel system. When fuel pressure get to high inside the common rail, it should open to release the pressure. The little fuel that is expelled is sent back to the tank. If it sticks open, you will have no pressure and go nowhere. If it is stuck closed, it will build pressure and when enough pressure is built up, the engine will degrade until the pressure drops back down. (Rinse and Repeat)
      3 hours to confirm it was the valve, 15 mins to replace. Go Figure!

    • @jtaylorb88

    David, could you please give us a little more incite about towing a full size jeep 4 wheels down. I have never seen that jeep being able to be towed that way and it' s getting harder and harder find a vehicle that can be towed that way. Plus we are planning on replacing our current toad (a Honda fit) and in the past we did have a number of Jeep Grand Cherokees and always loved them.
    Thanks,
    Ed

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ed Snoke Hi...The Jeep Grand Cherokees, depending on the transmission it has, is so very easy to flat tow. You turn it on. Put it in Neutral. Hold a button down for 5 seconds which disengages the transfer case. Then you stop the Jeep by holding the Start/Stop button for 3 seconds which moves into PARK. At that time it allows you then to press it again to shut it all down. So even though it reads it is in park, the transfer case is disconnected so it is now fee wheeling. That is about it. Just hook it up to your choice of tow bar and braking system and you are good to go. We use Blue-ox and Air Force One braking.

      That also depends on your needs. What size coach and will you be towing anything. Larger coaches that are pulling you surely want a diesel pusher.

      +George TheMop Hi...Yes, very much so. Our property taxes in NY were $12,000 a year and we had 6% personal income tax. This last year on the road was $11,809 including site fees, fuel, insurance, and an oil change. We also no longer gave personal income tax saving even more. And nope...the smile does not hurt much. :)

      prop tax was 12K!? wow. so you exchanged tax for travel; good choice. thanks for the details, it'll help those that haven't yet made the jump to the road. and keep smiling. cheers.

      How many miles did you travel in the above costs of $11,809? We plan to sell the house & go full-time. Thanks

    How do you stop the cats from constant meowing. Every time I take one to the vet it’s constant?????

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our cats did not like going to the vet in a carrier also and would wine. The seem to have no issue in a moving coach at all when not in a carrier. See here from todays travel...(Video starts as I show what the coach is like closed up going down the road.) th-cam.com/video/S3gfrfjBJg0/w-d-xo.htmlm32s

    David, do you know if diagnostic tool from places like AutoZone, can interpret your "check engine" light code?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bryan Brenner Hi...Go to Amazon and look for a product called ScanGuageD. Real nice device that does a lot more than just codes.

      +David Bott David. will this device work on older coach's like my 2003? i have a Cummins 400 ISL and thew RV has no engine diagnostics at all.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kevin Charlet Hi...Then no. This device reads the real time data that the engine reports. If you engine has no such ports, then nope, nothing to read from.

      No we have not. It does of course happen just like it can in any home. We do have video cameras and alert systems also like a home however.

    How do you keep your cats from scratching your leather furniture? We have two cats and wonder how we will solve that issue if we get a RV.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, not sure how to reply to that. It is not like we do anything special for them not to scratch it. They just don't.

    • @gosman949
      @gosman949 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless you keep their claws trimmed or declawed (hopefully not), cats will naturally scratch leather without doing it on purpose. Just walking on leather will cause tiny pinholes in the leather. We don't keep our cats trimmed too often, but we have covered their most important leather places with another expensive hide cover. I fear buying an expensive coach, and having tiny pinholes that will depreciate the resell value. Look closely at your leather couch, you probably have holes and scratches!

      When you tow a vehicle is it true you have to find the right vehicle that supports towing? What do you have to look for in a vehicle? I hear that just because its in neutral doesn't mean the transmission isn't in neutral to the axle.
