    great video David, very clear explanation of your set up...i've done something similar in mine. 60 minutes showed a special about Hacking free wifi and how easy it is to get password protected information once you access that free wifi. The wifi network records all the key strokes then the admin for the wifi network has access to all passwords you have entered while using the network. Just be careful with which networks you access...McDonalds and Starbucks are probably fine, you just want to be careful not to access free access points you aren't familiar with or well known. my 2 cents...loved the video.

    Great video and information, David. Diane, here, from RVtravel.com. I tried clicking on your link above where you say: "Follow along with us..." and it wouldn't link. Then I realized you typed in "OursideOurBubble.com"--oops. BTW--We're listing your website as a Website of the Day in an upcoming RV Daily Tips Newsletter. We want our readers to know what a great website you have! Take care.

      Hi Again Diane. Thanks for posting the video. Just in case you did not notice, the size of the video you posted are off and therefor it is cutting off the text at the bottom of the image. You may care to see if you can correct by making the height larger. Thanks again.

      Thanks, David. I just got home from the office (I do my computer work for RV Travel from home) and just found your notes. Will work on the size of the video. Thanks for letting me know! It had looked fine to me when I dropped it in. Sorry! Have a great day!

    Simple: Set your RV up with a WiFi Booster, this way when your sitting at that table like he is your laptop will send its little low ban signal to your WiFi booster and boost the power to the tower so it can pick you up better... Also The booster can pull in more Wifi as it has bigger ears to hear with. Then it sends it to your little lap top and your happy.
    Now again if that park has junk Wifi... no matter how much boost you have it will not get better if the park wifi is junk to start with.... So what did we learn.... Park Wifi sucks... and your lucky to get it when its good..
    And just so you know... I like what you had to say and how it all works,,,,

    Good info David! I have an external antenna, boaster, and router that maximizes the (sometimes) weak signal from the RV parks and bring that signal into my RV. I also agree about the firewall and malware checks on a regular basis. It seems that as soon as the Internet folks come out with something new, someone (probably our grand-kids) figure a way to hack it! Happy trails and love the videos!

    The wifi extenders are great in this instance trying to pick up a signal. I use one so I don't have to park so close to places that offer free wifi when I'm traveling in my CamperVan!. THANKS

    I like your videos so far. However I would still caution folks from using open networks. Just because SSL is being used doesn't stop one from SSL inspection as a Man In The Middle. It's amazing still how desperate people are to jump on my open wireless named "McDonalds" or "Starbucks" when there isn't even one nearby! But just because a browser is using SSL this doesn't stop a one from gaining access to your unprotected file system. Especially if your connection isn't isolated and each computer can see all the others.
    Bottom line, still practice awareness and never assume that open connection is secure. SSL isn't unhackable. A safer bet would be to VPN on open networks when doing your banking if you were desperate. A hacker only needs time, your laziness and always on connectivity provides the opportunity. =)

    Just say'n -- i found a NetGear Extender in Wal-Mart for around $50 that works the same way but plugs into a regular outlet and is in a 4X3X2 box with 2 antenna's that are moveable. It picks up the signal in the liveing room and retransmits them out at the garage about 50 feet away -- works great !!!! Can plug it in anywhere there is a 2 prong outlet or even an extension cord and as long as you have a password into the other device your set !!

      Thanks. For RV use however, as this video is for, usually a lot more range is needed to get a solid RV Parks connection unless you are close by an access point. But thank you kindly for the info on the unit as it sounds like a Wi-Fi repeater.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi...You can make something like this and have the best of both. It give you a private Wi-Fi system and you can connect it wirelessly to an RV park or a JetPack or HotSpot.

      If you are technically-inclined, or someone can assist you, I highly recommend the Ubiquiti Nanostation (locoM2) and the Ubiquiti AirGateway. The Air Gateway is the router and firewall your devices connect to, the Nanostation is a separate powered-antenna/amplifier that is designed to work with the Air Gateway in difficult areas. The Nanostation is directional, and instead of mounting it on the roof, you can just velcro it to a window on the inside of the coach facing one of the park's antennas. I just added mine, have yet to do a road trip on it, but picking up the Starbucks signal about a half-mile away from my backyard wasn't a problem. I was also able to stream Netflix perfectly inside the coach from my house system, which on over an acre, wasn't really doable before - email was actually a challenge with the previous HooToo junk-thing. Ubiquiti advertises that two Nanostations working with each other can shoot a signal over 2 miles. Amazon price would be under $80 for both, but again, these are not designed for consumer use, there are configurations on the web to walk you through it, but it's not going to be overly user-friendly. The Rogue Wave product would be better for that. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DCNRTAG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Eventually - WiFi will be like all of Europe - and it will be free!!!!!!! You can bet that most locations charge you for your time on WIFI!!!!!!!!! Most locations prefer to NOT have the problems of WIFI - but still have WIFI - so the simply DO NOT CHARGE you for it!!!!!!!!!
    ALso if you do NOT have virus protection on your computer - it is simply an amount of time until you have a virus - PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
