Thank you for your lovely comment!! 🥰 I’m so happy to have helped motivate you (I’m no stranger to the struggles of finding motivation for the French language 😂). Exciting about lingoda & trying hellotalk - Let me know how it goes. Goodluck! 🇫🇷😉
The language exchange apps I used very rarely brought about a productive language exchange arrangement so I much prefer ITALKI , but of course it’s all a subjective interpretation of how much your time / money is worth .
I looked at the exchange apps but could see as a guy how I'd be easily misinterpreted just making contact. So I stick to Italki, where you pay your money, respect the boundaries, and can make good friends for French conversation pretty much regardless of gender or age and free of any connotations. Alliance Française is fortuitously strong in my town (in NZ) which is great for the social life but patchy for consistent French conversation. I'm trying to get myself off the vast plateau that is B1, so Italki and TH-cam are my best friends. Thanks for the video, I have yet to come across anyone locally who learns a lot of French on-line so appreciate the chance to discuss it. Bonne continuation en France.
Thank you for your comment! It sounds like you’re really motivation and I’m sure you’ll get out of B1 in no time. I’ve been listening to a lot of inner french’s podcasts through Spotify to get my listening in. There are definitely some great channels out there for learning French. Bonne chance! 🥳
Woah, that was really interesting. I just did my first iTalki lesson last night & my instructor quickly sussed out what I needed & I feel a lot more prepared to enter the Lingoda Sprint
I've been using a lot of language apps for years. Never uploaded my face as dp, just some random cat or interesting art. Yes, there are some weirdos (it's the internet, hello?!) but all in all, I've had some serious language partners that now are my friends. Not once they asked me a photo of my face, just keep the conversation interesting and ditch the usual hi's and hello's.
Language exchange is easier for women than men. It's really hard to find a steady partner. I've been looking for 3 years and results are too bad. I prefer to pay someone an hour than beg to someone.
Paid is much better. Cuz it filters out all the drama and immaturity. People are forced to show their face on camera. I did meet my best friend on HelloTalk for free. Just took forever.
On the flip side, women are often harassed. The fact 95% of the people contacting them are guys can make girls feel scared. MAny girls have told me of the abuse they've received on HelloTalk
Thank you very much for this video. I’m an American exploring studying Dutch and I don’t know if I should do a language exchange or find an online tutor. This helped me very much. Merci beaucoup
Believe it or not, as a western guy, many south East Asian girls message me in the way you described on the app :/ It's so weird that people think it's somehow a dating thing...
As a male native English speaker on HelloTalk, I can confirm that it's not just women who attract the opposite sex in messages. I've gotten hundreds of language exchange requests, and 90% are from women (and a handful of gay dudes). I have talked about this with both male and female acquaintances on the app, and this seems to be the norm. I don't really know why it's this way, to be honest. But I have had some good language exchanges there despite the weirdness of this.
First let me say that I was so glad to find this video. I am trying to learn Spanish and I have a neighbor that I spend time with who speaks Spanish fluently. She is a big help to me, but I am unsure where to start to help her more with her English. That being said I was hoping to get a response to this message in the way of a specific app to use. My friend is struggling to learn English and is very eager to learn. Also, if you could suggest any tv show that is helpful for her to watch to help with her English. Thank you so much for putting out such valuable information. Great job!!
Hey there :) I think the best thing to help is just havening regular english conversation with here - this helped me a lot in french! As for tv show suggestions luckily theres a whole lot of options for english!! Something slow pace vs action movie for example. Nice and enlightening video! But the lingoda link doesn't work . Though is it applicable to the Supersprint? if i take courage maybe i'll do, is "only" a 90 days straight rally, in order to receive a full refund. I don't really suck on writing but i usually get stuck in one-on-one conversations whenever i go overseas. I wouldn't mind paying 10 dollar a lesson though... that could be another good option to improve my english😂
