Hi, Ana. I am an Italki user and i have been studying English in this wonderful website for a year. Everything works very well. Yes, they send a message 3 hours before the beginning of the time scheduled and a message to comfirm if the the class was ok. All the teachers are experienced. Before Using Italki I Didn't know if i was able to understand or been understood by a native speaker and now I happy I can. I intend to use Italki for many years. A hug
I've had great experiences with italki teachers, it's been great value especially for Spanish. The charges for English & German are higher. My strategy is different, I chose based on my impression on video and give new ones on the site, who tend to initially charge less and also have more time than those established. That means, I have experience meeting & converse with many different ones whilst also having continuity by buying 10 lesson packages. A search filter that's new, is specifying availability at certain times, which weeds out non-starters.
Now I found as a beginner, a pro-teacher had plans and materials, a tutor may expect you to prepare. Remember tutors may be charging just 6-10 dollars, be busy students who are expecting to be conversation partners. As a non-total beginner I needed structured lessons, later simply meeting for conversation works well, additional to following online lessons and building vocab. My experience with student partners, has been that I am not on computer with Skype evenings enough. More effort perhaps, I'd get more conversational practice. I use the app HelloTalk a good amount for language exchange.
Hi Anna!! I am also a community tutor on italki And i am finding italki is such a great platform to help people to find a native speaker of the language they wanted to learn. And i am a native Hindi speaker 🇮🇳and I really feel very happy when i help people in their language learning journey 😃
Don't bother clicking her iTalki link, she's getting too much free credit herself if you do. This review is seriously lacking. What is said is what can be discovered from touring the site. Disappointing after 17 minutes ZERO examples of material (PDF, PPT, Video, mp3) nor of a teacher teaching nor the content / topic the community teacher was teaching vs a professional. It would be good to see a video she made of herself teaching on there - that would be worth watching. I'd volunteer to be the demo student.
I'm not going to lie: I don't necessarily dislike this channel, but this video just drives me so mad. It's presented in the thumbnail and the intro as 'the real truth' about italki which is supposedly hard to handle, but we 'deserve' to know it. Misleading at best, because what follows is 16 minutes of shameless praise. Afterwards, the presenter gives a very quick segment at the end of less than a minute with the negatives we were all waiting for, just to uphold a shred of credibility that it is really your voice speaking, but then again those are these incredibly softball details which you even twist to become positives. Sigh. And then only at the very end the presenter gives this promotion which finally gives away that it is a sponsored video, only to make us clickbaited ones realising we have been subjected to 17 minutes of shameless advertising while only looking for an honest voice speaking about some of the flaws italki obviously has. Or even worse, not realising it and letting this misleading advertising deceive you and converting you from a sceptic to a paying user of the site. If you are advertising at least be open about it and don't mislead people in thinking the opposite. In fact, the mere fact that this video has so many views and the clickbait aimed at sceptics works so well in itself already proves that many people feel the obvious flaws of italki. You know, not everyone gets to be a credit-earning tutor, chances are you don't find a good combination of language partner and it is probable and you end up to pay almost a ridiculous amounts of your savings on just chatting with someone in his or her native language which is basically something every human being on this planet can do, and you don't need any talent for whatsoever. That's maybe nice for someone who works with languages professionally and with loads of money but not quite for people who just learn a language as a hobby like me. I wish there were a site which just has a more basic and egalitarian approach or algorithm to pairing up tandem language learning partner, or just learn one language for a certain duration by teaching your own for a certain duration. I mean, I have seen more interesting and productive 'language learning chains' on a simple paper on the wall of the international meeting centre of our university. Why can't there just be a common-sense alternative to this site with quite a lot of problems? Oh yeah, because they scam their users to pay them money for letting others do the hard teaching work, of which profit they use a fraction to flood youtube with ads and promotional videos like these effectively quenching every form of competition for their sub-par product. That's capitalism for ya, which has also infiltrated in every little corner of the internet. On a wider note, where's the time the internet used to be this more egalitarian and progressive place to give everyone a platform to launch their ideas? Where's the time that you didn't have to worry that every free service on the internet actually tracks you, knows you better than yourself and sells this information to whichever company or government wants to pay for you or manipulate you, bringing us scarily close to an Orwellian nightmare (of which the doublespeak of this video is a good example, btw)? Good times, good times. OK, got quite carried away with my rant there at the end, but seriously, if you have any good suggestions for getting to speak to natives of the language you are learning (in my case Icelandic, so those are quite rare), you can react to this comment and leave a suggestion :-).
I like italki, because often for little money (it also has disadvantages for the teacher ...) you can talk to someone in the language you are learning - and you do not have to go to a foreign language course, where lessons are organized anyway and according to the rules didactic, but learn the language from this "street" side. One of the disadvantages of italki is that they charge as much as 15% to each teacher, if you add currency conversion plus tax deduction for these classes, you find you are getting a really small amount of money. However, I can not disagree with you when it comes to this reflection on today's "dealing with the topic" - clickbaits, speaking from the perspective of "ordinary users" about something that is ordinary advertising (for which a given company would have to pay on TV or other circumstances money!). I definitely appreciate "word of mouth" - and maybe we should just whisper more often than talk out loud?
She embarassed herself utterly, but there are always tons of sheep around. My Italki experience was that they stole my money. It has terrible (Chinese) customer service and I had enough when they told me that they are stealing money from me because 'package expires'. Oh well the teacher was on a vacation. So FU Italki and this person with this shameless italki pitch to earn the referrals - I hope she gets karma she deserves.
WARNING! Before selecting a teacher and booking lessons keep in mind that once you select a teacher and book lessons your money is gone even if the teacher is unavailable and can’t accept the lessons or package you requested. Italki does not give refunds. NEVER! Imagine buying something from a webshop and after payment you are being told it is not in stock (despite being advertised as such). But instead of getting a refund they just tell you to pick something else from their shop.
Exactly! I have been on Italki for about a year. Everything seemed to be ok until a few days ago when Italki advised that as I haven't used my entire package that they will just forfit it! I guess neither you, nor your teacher should go on vacation during the duration of your package. Italki also has horrible customer service and I urge everyone to beware of this platform. You will see your money taken from you, sooner or later. Once was all it took for me. Good bye Italki.
Further warning: I signed up for a package of lessons with an iTalki teacher. The first 2 lessons were great but an hour before the 3rd the teacher canceled saying she was sick. As I see it iTalki owes me the remaining 3 lessons but won’t refund. The teacher has gone silent so I no longer get any response from anyone. I am surprised so many people have good experiences. I certainly did not. PS iTalki now says my user name and password are invalid. Go figure.
I am interested in learning. I know some basics. Would you advise using something like Pimsleur and then advancing to italic? Please give me your thoughts. Thank you.
my iTalki experience has been great! i'm very pleased. but that probably has mostly to do with the teacher/tutor that i found. if you don't like your tutor/teacher, then find another one. i am interested in a few languages and i chose to start with the one that i could find for lower prices. 😁
Tried today, but seems not professional. The serch bar is fake! I tried to search but nothing happened. I wanted to report the bug but support is a chatbot...
Can someone tell me what happens on the italki group video call. My application has been Pre- approved. I'm curious to know what the group video call is about.
This seems more like an ad than a review. So far Italki has been nothing but frustrating to me. The site took my money, but I can't seem to get an actual teacher to book a lesson - - they either decline or ignore me. I get no email notifications of status (put in a support ticket for this, but they have no solution). And the community aspect you mention apparently only is available on a phone app, not on a computer.
I wouldn't recommend it, as a teacher. It takes ages to set up your profile and at the end not worth it. Yes it is very competitive and hard to get lessons. If you don't use your profile, it gets hidden, but not only to the people out there but from you! it is virtually impossible to have a look at or retrieve your information. You have to "re-apply" to being a teacher again, meaning new info again plus it might not be accepted because of too many teachers! And if you haven't made the minimum amount of money in the meantime, then you are stuck! You can't retrieve it or make more money as you have to do it all over again, or be stopped doing it as your profile might be stuck out there... Not a good policy if you ask me, I spent time with customer service who don't answer my questions properly and don't do anything to help. Keep on passing me to others who can "better help" but to no avail. Customer service is useless plus it is in Hong Kong so if you are on the other side of the world, it takes a day for them to answer... something useless-.
I also wanted to create a profile as a teacher but one of the steps is to upload your picture but it doesn't work. I don't know where things go wrong. I can't go to the other steps if I am not able to upload a picture.

I am really interested in learning multiple languages! I only know English and Vietnamese atm, I want to learn Spanish, French, Japanese, and many more down the road. How many lessons does it take to be fluent? I just want to see how much it would cost to see if it would be worth it for me to learn this way
EverybodylovesJeff well it took me 4 months to learn spanish through just playing with guys on xbox, so idk because Ive never used Italki but assuming on how quickly you learn languages it could probably take anywhere from a few lessons to a few months. Nonetheless, you wouldnt want to solely learn through italki, learning some on your own and then using that knowledge to talk to [someone] (even if it isnt correct and thus being corrected) I find is one of the most useful ways of learning.
This site is good for communicating and for asking questions. You can ask any question you like there and English teachers (and not only teachers) will answer your question. For this think I immensely like this site. As for learning I haven't taken any lesson from native speakers, so I can't say.
Guys, can someone help me with the iTalki credit? I registered some moments ago, then came here to use her link but when I click it, my dashboard appears with no credit whatsoever. Can somebody tell me what am I doing wrong?
Long time ago I registered on Italki but lost interest to it 'cause I didn't know how to interact with community. Now after your vid I guess I'll revisit this platform 'cause you cleared some things up. I need to restore my language learning activity after final exams.
@@EnglishLikeANative I wanted to sign up as a teacher on Italky but I can't upload a picture. It is not uploading on the platform. If I can't submit a picture, I can't continue with the other steps.
Hey! Have you heard about Tandem app? There you can find exactly what you want 🙂 It's free and it's for people who want to speak different languages in exchange
The truth about italki? I just checked - Anna Tyrie has only taught three lessons with italki. This is just self-promotion. Or making money from referrals.
I think you have misunderstood. I’m not a teacher with italki, I’m a student of italki. I promote them along with a handful of other language learning resources because I believe their platform to be a great asset for any language learners. It’s not a secret that italki sponsor my channel, all brands mentioned must contribute to this community but that does not mean that any brand can buy there way on to my videos or buy undeserved support from me. I give a positive review because the italki platform is brilliant.
the in the recommendation of videos I found your video , then I decided to leave it because I predicted that your speech will be consumed . and That way totally right ,however what attracted me when I opened da video was your acts, your outfits, the ways you move and talk so that I decided to complete the video to the end.

Nonetheless, you wouldnt want to solely learn through italki, learning some on your own and then using that knowledge to talk to [someone] (even if it isnt correct and thus being corrected) I find is one of the most useful ways of learning.
@@253Jeffle impossible to say. There's so many things to take into account: ability, teaching quality, prior knowledge, your measure of fluency, etc.
How much per hour can a teacher earn? Do I have to create lessons?
This is a good, detailed review. Thank you.
Is it worth subscribing English ninja?
I've been using italki since 2009, BTW.
How did you see it?
I was looking for some platform to have a cgat with native speakers and I came across italki.
Thanks for your respond. My question is: this site (italki) is good for learning. Did you learn from it.
This site is good for communicating and for asking questions. You can ask any question you like there and English teachers (and not only teachers) will answer your question. For this think I immensely like this site. As for learning I haven't taken any lesson from native speakers, so I can't say.
Thank you very much.😊
hey anna i signed up but didn't get the credit?
The credit appears when you make your first purchase
What are the points good for?
You can practice English speaking with me
Mam can i contact you ? Because i really wanna learn english and want an english partner to chat
Guys, can someone help me with the iTalki credit? I registered some moments ago, then came here to use her link but when I click it, my dashboard appears with no credit whatsoever. Can somebody tell me what am I doing wrong?
If you already had an account then it won’t work. I guess you would have to sign up with a fresh email address.
Oh, I thought I should sign up first and then come here to use the credit. I've messed it up :/ but thank you replying, Anna
You can practice English speaking with me at free of cost
Long time ago I registered on Italki but lost interest to it 'cause I didn't know how to interact with community. Now after your vid I guess I'll revisit this platform 'cause you cleared some things up. I need to restore my language learning activity after final exams.

I‘m a Germanteacher and what you earn net after all the deduction is a JOKE!

QQ is an online messenger program in China.
"it is not a valid affiliate account" - (message from italki support)
What does that mean
is this a review or a promotion?
Hello teacher.
Thanks for your all lessons.
You are a beautiful smile!
See you next lesson.
Bye.
@4:40 Teachers' TEACHING quality NOT "...an indication of a TEACHER'S quality". lol

If you're new to italki use a66H0c as referral code!
To much choices??? I‘m learning khmer, there are only 4 teachers 🤪
Good speaker of native English...😍
Thank you mom, for this video tutorial, it really helps those of us who are not too advanced
Pity one cannot buy credits through iTunes prepaid cards or the like thereby one would not be giving away credit o debit cards ...
Hello Anna you are good trainer of english
Are you in Italy? Because if yes I think I saw you in Bologna this morning
Lol really. Yes I was in Bologna today. You should have said hello 👋
Thanks for posting this. I didn't know how it works, and your review helped me.

If there is someone here that wants to do language exchange, please let me know. I want to learn Russian and speak English and Spanish. Thanks 🙏
Hey! Have you heard about Tandem app? There you can find exactly what you want 🙂 It's free and it's for people who want to speak different languages in exchange
are any italki teachers engineers or physicists?

What do you thing about verbling... Because they look smilar itaki and verbling
OMG, if i had an english teacher like her in school....
Fair enough. Please accept my apologies.
@@pauljamesblatherwick4764 Apology accepted. :)
Do you think they will help you with GCSE?
the in the recommendation of videos I found your video , then I decided to leave it because I predicted that your speech will be consumed . and That way totally right ,however what attracted me when I opened da video was your acts, your outfits, the ways you move and talk so that I decided to complete the video to the end.
Anna you are ,"THE TEACHER"". Lovely classes!(Mrs. Anna)
I handled the truth very well, tbh (and I loved your channel, Anna)
These teachers, from italki, are they so pretty as you are?
Are they AS pretty as you?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Yes, and in my eyes you are pretty. Thank you very much.
I made a mistake to check your vigilance ;-)
Ow you are fantastic. I will start some lessons on italki 😀
Anna 💕❤ you are a breath of fresh air
Very professional endorser...
Hi there.. I love watching this video. 🤗You reminded me of Mother Gothel from the Disney movie Tangled.
You can practice English with me
You look like Shrek so you have no right to be that mean. LOL.
Thank you for your efforts.
You explained the truth about it well.
