The canceled game perfect dark core was originally supposed to be like mirror's edge and have parkour. So it sounds like they are at least retaining that.
I didnt know about the original perfect dark games, so when i watched the showcase i instantly thought about mirrors edge one of the first games i played and i got fuckin excited
In 2000, my Mom gave me Perfect Dark as a Christmas present. It was considered the best console shooter before Halo. The game received praise for its multiplayer, which was comparable to Unreal Tournament, and for being the first video game to feature a secondary button fire for weapons. The advanced artificial intelligence and the use of the N64 expansion pack pushed the graphics to their limits. It's one of the best games from my childhood.
Honestly speaking, Perfect Dark still held up in concept after Halo. Where Halo licked it was _beautifully_ perfecting console FPS controls to the point that you literally couldn't improve them any further. For a while there, my dream was a game with Halo's perfect controls (and scope) and Perfect Dark's ambition, mechanics, gameplay, and aesthetic.
I associate Perfect dark with fond memories of my childhood, since on my uncle's old N64, I used to watch how my dad and he used to take turns playing the "campaign mode" of Perfect dark while i was eating some "Dinosaur nuggets" And although I was just a child and i did not understand much of what I saw, the mere fact of being able to now relive those old moments of my childhood. Now 20 years later and having my dad by my side to see me play this game in the future as he "promises me" It's just perfect for me.
I remember in the original Perfect Dark that if you tried to back out of the Main Menu you would discover the Main Menu is a computer screen in the headquarters you are accessing when starting up the game. You can back out & explore most of the headquarters & even practice with some of the guns in a firing range. If I'm remembering right you could even find another computer to do training levels.
So true but deep down I don’t want to admit it. Towards the end of 64 Rare really tapped in to the 64’s performance. I wish they would re-released Goldeneye exactly the same as 64 but completely updated.
It looks like a cool IP in general & I'm too young to have ever played the original. I think that's the goal with Xbox now. They might try to revive all these franchises then will make movies/shows to make more money instead of using weird tactics & monetization
Ah the old throat shot sound, gargling death effect 😂 The guns were good, but who remembers the grenade that was actually named 'N-bomb'! It was quite powerful!
N-Bomb is a crazy grenade haha it would swallow up a whole room full of enemies. Just finished a play through of Perfect Dark on XBone definitely relived some memories from growing up with an N64.
I remember going to Hollywood Video to rent the game and Expansion pak consistently until I finally bought both. Then loading up 100 meat sims for a slaughter every morning before school in 6th grade. Good times!
It really is. It was a complete content packed experience with so many awesome game modes and features. Massive really, I don't think they could have did much better if at all. The n64 can barely handle it. Hardware was the limiting factor. T.T Does so much that modern games don't even do as well if at all.
I was surprised on how advanced PD was on the N64. Campaign can be played in 3 different ways: solo, co-op, and counter-op where 2nd player plays the enemy. In the game multiplayer, you can even give bots commands.
Not to mention, the levels difficulty drastically can change the levels gameplay experience with new objectives, starting points and situations, and so on. Like one level for example on easy you snipe a hostage, but on hard you play as that hostage and fight your way out of the situation by dodging the execution and stealing their weapons with your bear handed attacks to use against them. Also starts you in very different map locations. Harder modes unlocked more parts of the maps too. Game had tons of extra content like a ton of challenge modes to beat, multiplayer with bots with many different bot ai personality types, secret levels, cheats, multiplayer customization, and so many fking crazy things honestly. They did so much before any of it became standard, and many modern games fail to do. Such a good game. My favorite FPS. Always geek out. xD
This, we need more secrect agent game. Glad there is also a James Bond game in develop. Still, Im bitter about R*'s canceled openworld secret agent game
In the game home front, there's an arcade machine that lets you play time splitters 2 , I believe the first few levels are remastered. Or it could be the og game
Perfect Dark Zero was one of, if not thee first Xbox 360 game I played as I believe my father bought the console and it came with it. Used to sit and play that game for hours
And now, I feel old. I played the hell out of PD. Truly amazing experience. Stacks up with Goldeneye. Thanks for the nostalgia trip early on in the clip Jack. You rock.
Of course it stacks up with goldeneye. =P Goldeneye innovated to design the initial fps as we know it now, and Perfect dark was the sequel that perfected and improved the formula. Essentially a better version of it in nearly every way. Not to take away from goldeneye, Massive that it innovated the formula for the game so well and some people prefer the bond aesthetic. But holy fk did PD really let loose on expanding on what Goldeneye started. Such amazing games.
I'm seeing a LOT of Dishonored DNA with the parkour/combat gameplay, open level-ness and overall freedom on how you want to engage with enemies and the level itself. Here's hoping it'll scratch that itch that hasn't been scratched since Dishonored 2...
Perfect Dark N64 was the perfect game which I DOUBT this game will live up too. If you shot enemies on the legs they would LIMP! If you shot the gun out of the hands of enemies, they would either melee attack you, surrender with their arms raised up, or pull out a hidden pistol! You could commands simulants: Have them follow you, attack a target, defend a specified position, stand at a given position, etc. To this day Perfect Dark N64 is the most advanced AI FPS I've ever seen. I doubt these so-called "best devs" will incorporate any of this functionality onto the game. The trailer looked more like a tech demo "shooter" where Perfect Dark was a stealth spy-hacker game!!!
Yea, unfortunately. They aren't even keeping the iconic aesthetic... Not seeing much of the cyberpunk 5th element theme they had going on back then... Much more generic looking. Here's hoping it is just due to it being so early on, but I am doubtful.
@@proudyfoot don’t take that the wrong way … there were periods where we had multiple consoles that had amazing games AND games were COMPLETELY finished when they were released. @@bryanlafontaine6460 haha that's awesome, the mp feels like a mix of golden eye and halo. btw happy fathers day man good on you for being there for em
0:23 Erratum: "was the most advanced game at that time": long solo missions, secondary functions of all the weapons, possibly to play the multi alone with real bots (with a lot of customisation), big maps, maps from Goldeneye, easter eggs (cheese hidden everywhere), co-op missions, mission where someone plays a random NPC etc... Goldeneye was fucking great and they made something even better out of it! I spent soooo much time with friends playing that game. The bots in the multi were a perfect addition.
perfect dark zero was horrible, but I remember it being one of the first console games to support 1080i resolution. My dad had a 1080i sony TV and my friend brought his 360 over. As bad as we thought the game was, it was so insane to see how good the game looked visually. I just hope Elvis makes a return.
Almost didn't recognise this was one of your videos without the text on the thumbnail. Great video, really interesting insight. I liked how you pointed out the likeness to Mirror's Edge. Seems like a really interesting game with a lot of potential and I really enjoy your commentary and analysis on new games.
Perfect Dark 64 was the first FPS that had multi-functional weapons, bots with varied difficulties, multiplayer missions, PvP missions, challenge mode, and secret missions all in one game. Not to mention the fact you could walk around the institute and do target practice missions. You even had profiles with game statistics. The multi-function alone was a game changer as it brought in things like camera-guided rockets, auto-turrets, threat detectors, and weapons that shot through walls. My favorite game today (Planetside 2), has half of the functions Perfect Dark had, and not anywhere near as refined. And no bot in any game terrifies me more than a Darksim with a FarSight. I only recently found out that Mirror's Edge's servers has gone down, and that's another game that I love, both of them. So when I seen the parkour in the new PD, I haven't been more excited for a game ever.
Perfect Dark 64 is and always will be my favorite game of all time, whenever I get asked what my favorite game is I always say Perfect Dark. the soundtrack, the missions, everything was crafted so perfectly. I hope they pay ohmage to the first game by putting a piece of hidden cheese on the maps lol
As a hardcore fan of the original N64 title, I think this looks quite promising. It's not exactly what I was expecting but i think it's an accurate representation of what a modern day CIA Spy shooter would actuallly be like. Let's not forget that the original game had Alien technology and was very cyberpunk so Expect to see gadgets and tech from "other worlds". So far.. looks good.
Idk man, they don't seem to be using the same aesthetics or anything... Far more plain and modern. Nearly everything float in the original, but I have yet to see any vehicles doing so in this one. It was really 5th element cyberpunk ish in the original... Heres hoping it is just not done or a bad level.
I love these sorts of videos compared to the other "impression" videos where there's 2 minutes of talking and then 15 minutes of uncut gameplay. It's hard to differentiate between the two as they are titled / marketed the same. Perhaps the two different style of videos could be named something different? Great vid!
Loved the storytime in the beginning! 👌 Please include more of these in your future videos too! As a dude from the early nineties I really get the nostalgic vibe.
used to play Perfect Dark on the N64 with my brother. Worked our way up the beating full teams of the hardest AI in MP. Knowing the spawns, where to hide and snipe with the X-Ray sniper, etc. Campaign was great, MP was better, and the guns were incredibly interesting and unique!
The Perfect Dark IP has been a favorite of mine and Ive been hoping for a Duex Ex style character building angle with a farcry/MGS5 level/freedom format. I'm still waiting for an enjoyable contextual cover system in an FPS.
I grew up with Perfect Dark and I have been following this development for years now. My heart is happy a piece of my childhood has survived the test of time.
I remember in the original Perfect Dark, after beating the story a bunch, I would then set maximum bots and run team deathmatches all the time, it was so much fun. Curious to see where this one ends up. Thanks for unlocking some memories for me.... also that it was 24 years ago... sheeeeeeeeeeeesh.
Perfect Dark. It is one of my favourite games, I aswell spent so many hours on that game. The replayibility (is that a word?) is infinite. Absolutely such a good story and all the weapons is just mindblowing at the time it came out. Wow! I bought it when it came out to Xbox just have a trip down nostalgia lane. Not quite the same but still good. Now when I see this. I am hyped over the posssibility to play as Joanna Dark once again. I´m getting this game as soon as it comes out. Jippi!
pretty sure i saw it described as such by someone working on it. dont take my word for it though im not certain, you could probably look it up yourself.
@@PoloMoneyFor this game it would be cool and there’s plenty of single player fps games. It seems you have a negative experience with mp games by your comment
Bro perfect dark was one of my favorite games. I remember having to buy the better "expansion pack" to play it and just being able to play split screen coop campaign was too much fun
Yo Jack we need you on LevelCap and Matimi0s podcast! They just had Xfactor on, that brought back so many memories. I'd love to see the old squad reunited.
Man N64 was my first big console and i didnt know back then about this game. I didn't have even access to gaming magazines because i kinda lived in some suburbs in Greece. :(
I like what I've seen so far, and I think Mirror Edge/Deus ex elements could fit very well in Perfect Dark. That said, I did hear from one game journalist that the entire game is set to take place in Cairo Garden City, which comes as a bit of a surprise. I think one thing that made the original so great was it's vast array of guns, missions, locations etc., so a single location as an immersive sim does limit pretty much everything. Perhaps the journalist just got the wrong idea though, and development is still early, so maybe this Garden City will simply be the first game area, much like how dataDyne HQ was in the original. Oh well, time will tell.
Really REALLY hope that is wrong... The selection of unique levels was a massive part of the original... The level they are showing isn't all that neat either... Lacking tons of the cyberpunk 5th element vibes it used to have. Just more plain, and if true more limited... sigh.
This was one of the best moments of the presentation for me. I've been waiting for more on this game ever since they first announced it was a thing. Perfect Dark is one of my favorite console FPS franchises and I like what I'm seeing so far. I'm hoping that they can deliver with it so that we finally have a worthy successor to the original title.
It would be cool if multiplayer was split screen only as a way of paying homage to the older titles we all had to play with our brothers and sisters. But obviously it would be awesome online too, I just don’t think the online player base would be that big with conglomerates like COD existing today
I didn't see any blood so I'm hoping they just turned the blood off just for the showing. And their is blood in the game just like the good old N64 version.
Never played either of the two previous games. My first FPS was Quake 3 Arena on the Dreamcast😅 I miss the days of having to fight over the best weapons spread out in the arena. Last good game like that was Splitgate
This was one of my top 3 favorite games on N64 aswell. goldeneye and Conker's Bad Fur Day being the other 2. Laptop gun in perfect dark still a memorable favorite x)
Yea, but perfect dark was basically goldeneye but better. Had tons of polish and user friendly fixes. Sequel after all. Basically the same game with a different paint job and tons of improvements and additions. Love them both, not losing out with either one.
Luckily they had the major flaw of a massive headshot area to balance them out a bit more than odd job. Just a tad. Like a trade off of harder to hit, but if hit it will most likely be pretty critical damage.
I realize they said that this is "inspired" by the original and that it is its own thing, but nothing that I see in this trailer says Perfect Dark, unless they really mean Perfect Dark Zero (which I never played). Nothing would make me happier than to see this game come back in a new and exciting way, but what I think it lacks is feeling, does this FEEL like a Perfect Dark game? There are plenty of games with cool gadgets, cool game mechanics, and great graphics, but if you're going to bring back a franchise that's twenty-five years old it should FEEL like the original while delivering a modern spin. I truly hope to eat these words later when the game comes out, but as of right now, nothing about this game says Perfect Dark to me...again, unless we're talking about Perfect Dark Zero.
I just hope the FarSight returns 🤞

Lovely video, thanks Jack! Can't wait to see more, it looks so good.
3:15 Development was delayed so that Joanna Dark's jawline could be "updated for modern audiences".

Overwatch zarya
It's only a game, @@bemad7886, why are you so mad?
I grew up with Perfect Dark and I have been following this development for years now. My heart is happy a piece of my childhood has survived the test of time.
i really hope this has coop campaign like the previous two.
Love that this IP is making a comeback!! Makes me miss Splinter Cell tho, rip.
A buddy of mine was deadly with the Far Sight rifle. We had many laughs because of it! Haha
Jackfrags is a interesting guy
Perfect Dark is still my all time favorite FPS still
I remember in the original Perfect Dark, after beating the story a bunch, I would then set maximum bots and run team deathmatches all the time, it was so much fun.
Curious to see where this one ends up. Thanks for unlocking some memories for me.... also that it was 24 years ago... sheeeeeeeeeeeesh.
I genuinely thought this was a Mirrors Edge game with all the insane parkour you can do, but man I'm so excited for this!
Great memories in this game, I really enjoyed this video keep killin it jack 🤟🤟
Perfect Dark. It is one of my favourite games, I aswell spent so many hours on that game. The replayibility (is that a word?) is infinite. Absolutely such a good story and all the weapons is just mindblowing at the time it came out. Wow! I bought it when it came out to Xbox just have a trip down nostalgia lane. Not quite the same but still good. Now when I see this. I am hyped over the posssibility to play as Joanna Dark once again. I´m getting this game as soon as it comes out. Jippi!
Reminds me a bit of an "Immersive Sim"
Which if it is, that would be awesome. We don't get enough Immersive Sim's these days
pretty sure i saw it described as such by someone working on it. dont take my word for it though im not certain, you could probably look it up yourself.
No multiplayer would be such a missed opportunity.
No. We can have a singleplayer game for once ffs. Not every fps singleplayer needs multiplayer. Go away lol
@@PoloMoneyFor this game it would be cool and there’s plenty of single player fps games. It seems you have a negative experience with mp games by your comment
@@Trojeansbecause alot of devs are spending resources on MP only for it to be scrapped or fail.
I'm saying because the original had multiplayer.
MP might've get this game in development hell even more and even cancelled. So good riddance.
Absolutely loved the old perfect dark game on n64, this looks nothing like it.
Still looks really good gameplay wise, its a reboot for a reason
Bro perfect dark was one of my favorite games. I remember having to buy the better "expansion pack" to play it and just being able to play split screen coop campaign was too much fun
I'm not gonna lie this game looks awesome. I loved the original perfect dark.
perfect dark was one of my favourite games on the N64.
along with WINBACK. anybody remember that gem ?
What made the first game so fun was the great gunplay, the smart enemies, smart levels and the gadgets.
Everytime I see old games come back like this, it gives me hope Timesplitters will one day return
In a way it already did, the entire game of Time Splitters 2 is inside of Homefront Revolution and playable.
Stoked for this one! I used to play perfect dark all the time
I like what I've seen so far, and I think Mirror Edge/Deus ex elements could fit very well in Perfect Dark.
This could be big, loved the games other than the one we all hated
I loved that 90's sci-fi vibe these games have like Deus Ex, System Shock 1 & 2
It would be cool if multiplayer was split screen only as a way of paying homage to the older titles we all had to play with our brothers and sisters. But obviously it would be awesome online too, I just don’t think the online player base would be that big with conglomerates like COD existing today
I didn't see the alien part lol the "SKEDAR" ARE BACK
Just gonna say, the first person takedown animations give me goosebumps. First person John Wick
I didn't see any blood so I'm hoping they just turned the blood off just for the showing. And their is blood in the game just like the good old N64 version.
Hey Jack great vid mate, I can't wait for this game, I remember playing the first one.
Looks fun, hope the story is good?!! Was hoping you actually was playing! Waiting to see more
Never played either of the two previous games. My first FPS was Quake 3 Arena on the Dreamcast😅 I miss the days of having to fight over the best weapons spread out in the arena. Last good game like that was Splitgate
Feels to me like Deux Ex / Mirror's Edge combo in the Perfect Dark universe. Seems fun
Let's not forget Elvis! 👽
Oh man I remember poison throwing knives and laptop guns haha so fun
Looks so fun!
Ha, I guess that Egypt regeneration project from BF 2042 was a success, look at how nice Cairo looks 😂
Really like thee movement/combat/presentation so far. Looks very fresh!
Running around as a little Alien playing multiplayer was fun asf.
My brother, neighbour and I sunk hundreds of hours into multiplayer Perfect Dark all those years ago
Honestly kind of excited game looks interesting I was too young to play any of the older titles so looking forward to this
This looks like the type of fun fps we've been waiting for since something like Syndicate or Bulletstorm!
This was one of my top 3 favorite games on N64 aswell. goldeneye and Conker's Bad Fur Day being the other 2.
Laptop gun in perfect dark still a memorable favorite x)
Another excellent Rare game for the N64 was Conkers Quest- Bad Fur Day. It had adult themed humour and some zany game play.
Sweet childhood. The phoenix gun was my fav
The soundtrack on the original was the Best. I hope they include a remix of the main menu
Never had time to play Perfect Dark as Goldeneye and Mario Kart were everything me and my mates ever needed
Yea, but perfect dark was basically goldeneye but better. Had tons of polish and user friendly fixes. Sequel after all. Basically the same game with a different paint job and tons of improvements and additions.
Love them both, not losing out with either one.
Hope this game has that briefcase that unfolds into a laser smg like in the OG. Best gun in a game ever
This game was next level when it game out.. I sunk a lot of time into this too! Hyped for the new one!
Perfect dark on N64 was the good ol’ days 😌
you just had to play as the OP alien characters in multiplayer, to fit in tunnels without crouching & abuse that Odd Job hitbox size! 😆
Luckily they had the major flaw of a massive headshot area to balance them out a bit more than odd job. Just a tad. Like a trade off of harder to hit, but if hit it will most likely be pretty critical damage.
Used to paly this with my Cousin in Coop, I was always Elvis :)
This is giving me Prey-type immersive sim vibes and I'm here for it
