Another great fix. I have 2 QDL and one arrow of this style and age in the refurbish pile. If I have any drive issues this is going to be very helpful. Thanks for posting, always great instruction!
This really helped me understand the mechanism, but my issue is not quite the same. The mechanism (the square piece) is coming down on each key stroke, but isn't moving the gear. Nothing is frozen and it all looks OK, (I can spin the gear, and it all looks like it should be working) but the gear isn't moving when the square piece comes down. I'm guessing that it's not engaging correctly, but it's hard to see in there. Are there any other adjustments I could try to correct this?
I'm sure there is other adjustments. I would be looking for a sticky part(s). Not sure what is happening without looking 1st hand, very difficult to access much on these Royals
I need help. The ribbon carrier will lift but not retract back down. I found the spring on the other side. Thr spring was off the lever i returned rhe lever but the spring seems worn. Do you have any advice ro get it operational?
Man, you really saved the day. Actually a lot more than the day. As you know it is impossible to find repair shops for these old machines and I have been in a real pickle for over a year now trying to get info on this very issue. My Royal is my preferred writing tool. You are responsible for reviving my writing and likely my career. I can't thank you enough...unless it helps me start to earn again in which case I will gladly be hitting your tip jar.
Mine didn’t work, so I’ll have to replace it but this video helped me find out the problem. Im new to typewriters so-
