    My Cardiologist recommended that I talk to a Dietician/Weight-Loss Specialist at my local hospital. She had me download a nutrition tracking app and accurately document what I ate in a week. She then gave me daily calorie and carb limits, along with water intake goals and a strong suggestion to walk at least 20 minutes, 3x per week.
    I've lost nearly 50 lbs since early August and have only missed 3 days of walking (30 to 55 minutes, limited by other health issues). I'm the lightest I've been in over 10 years, which is amazing and I feel so much better. Still a long way to go to reach my goal, but feel that I have to tools (or have a better idea what tools I may need) to reach it.

    Calorie budget is a LIMIT, not a target...that blew my mind! I don't know why I never saw it that way before. Thank you for explaining that concept. This video is absolute gold - I will be referring back to this a lot on my weight loss journey. Thank you!! 🌟

    I’ve tried so many “diets” and honestly what worked for me is intermittent fasting. Fasting seriously fixes lots of those cravings.

    It’s a limit not a goal, OMg, needed to ear that. I was doing that « I am ok, but I ‘need’ extra x calories » by fear of not eating enough or something. Brilliant 👍👍👍

    As someone who has also lost a ton of weight, I'll say for folks to listen to 4:00-4:40, over and over.....and over.

    Thank you Carla. You are so inspiring. I have always had a weight problem, but a few years ago I lost about 120 lbs and was a finalist in one of the Diet clubs here in South Africa. I was looking and feeling fantastic. However, I seem to self-sabotage myself and I have put the weight on again.I watch all your videos, but this one is exactly what I need to hear, and has given me the encouragement to start again.     I can’t keep up calorie deficit for more than a few months! I just get tired of obsessing over food!

      Try 12 weeks in a calorie deficit and then 12 weeks of maintenance, then rinse and repeat.
      This will help with fatigue.

    I agree with so much of what you’re saying here. I found when eating out it was very helpful to try to go online ahead of time to try to find the menu of the restaurant I may be going to. The internet is great for finding this information. I would decide before going what would be the best choice. It helped with impulse ordering. The calorie logging apps are also very good also for finding calories for many “brand name” restaurants. ⭐️🌟✨

    I really enjoyed your video and there was one thing that really hit me: I log my food every day and I usually pre-log my food which I’ve noticed makes me feel obligated to eat everything that I have pre-logged. This interferes with the idea that my calorie deficit is a limit and not a goal (great point, btw), so I’m still trying to figure this out and how it will work for me. I have to limit my feeding time (in IF) because I have Type 2 Diabetes, so if I eat too early in the day, then I’m on a blood sugar roller-coaster for the rest of the day. Perhaps I will be able to reverse my Type 2 so it won’t be such a rollercoaster once I lose the weight I want to lose. Thank you for making this video! I hit subscribe!

      Thanks Sherri, I was never overly concerned about carbs. My main source of them were vegetables and I’d have some kind of carb with dinner. Xx

    You might already have a vid on this (new sub here) but could you do a video on how you settled on those habits that helped you to be successful? Ex. Walking an hour in the morning, eating plant-based, intermittent fasting, etc. I feel like I keep trying various habits/strategies but I can’t settle on a combination of them that really work for me! Did you have a trial and error period, and if so, what did that look like for you?

    For some reason I've never thought about consistency this way. Thinking I am I always "dieting" but only doing it half-way, has obscured the very real fact that what I've actually been doing for the last few years is consistently overeating. How can I expect any different results if the habit I've honed is that of overconsumption?

    Hello dear Carla! I know I’m late to comment on this video, but thought I’d give it a shot. Nighttime snacking is killing me. I do so well keeping to my calories during the day and then just totally mess it up at night. I log before lunch for the rest of the day everyday but just throw it out the window when I want something at night. I’m driving myself nuts. Do you have any wisdom to share with me? I’m so thankful for you and hope that you and your family are well!! ❤️

      That's why it's so important to ensure we are not comparing ourselves to others, we all carry weight differently and what 146 looks like on me might look completely different on someone else. We need to find what suits us x

    ✨🖤 Hi Carla! I know this is an older video, but I had a question: I really want to do Body Slims this September, but I do have access to one of those in-person BMR breathing tests, so I have a pretty good sense of my calories for weight loss.

    @Carla I totally understand and appreciate that you don’t want to share calorie limit particulars from your weight loss, but I’m wondering if you would share something about the difference between your weight loss and weight maintenance eating? Did you stick with your weight loss plan until you reached your goal and then were “off” that plan? It sounds like you may still do IF and I know you have said you still walk daily no matter what. What about the calorie difference from loss to maintenance? Did you have a transition period? I’m asking because I do better when I can plan ahead and start to envision what my maintenance period will look like. Thank you.

    hi Carla Your weight loss was so fast , I know you don't give the calorie allowance , and you say it is a target not a goal ,, but how often in a week did you eat under your allowance? Just asking as constant cutting is an automatic reaction in order to get bigger losses on scales, , for example I think I should lower my cals to achieve better results , what's your opinion on this 🙂⭐⭐

      Just to clarify, it's a limit not a goal 😀 I ensured I was grounded and connected to my body each and every time that I made a decision around food. My goal wasn't to eat less it was to ensure I was satisfied with what I had eaten. I don't like the idea of trying to eat as little as possible, our bodies need fuel and nourishment, so eating from "better" sources which are lower in calories really helped that x

      I have psoriasis, a few different types, so I constantly have rashes or irritation. I just love with it now x

      I suffer with that at times, the doctor gave me some cream. I also found a general fungicide cream from the pharmacy area works just as well. Put on twice a day. Laying on the bed and allowing air to the area also helps.( to dry it out)
