📚 A book that helped me was "Refuse to Choose" by Barbara Sher. She talks about people who have multiple/varied interests and can't seem to stick with things. She calls them "Scanners" and shows how we can accomplish goals and be successful (our own definition of success).

I just found you today, Carla and I can't stop watching your videos! Thank you so much for talking about your weight loss journey and inspiring me to try one more time. I went through the first part of my life being skinny, and could eat whatever I wanted without putting on weight. I am now in my sixties, and 100 pounds overweight. I would love to hear about other books you enjoy, as reading is such an important part of our lives.

Julia Cameron actually has a book called "The Writing Diet" which is basically just about using the morning pages to "write yourself right size." So what you did with morning pages is definitely something she has encountered before, which is interesting.

I’m definitely interested in the anger book. I’ve always buried my anger to the point that I’ve blown up at people when I’ve hit my breaking point. My anger scares me. I’ve found that setting boundaries has helped, but I still have trouble standing up for myself. 📚🖤

St Ignatius of Loyola's Rules for Discernment of Spirits are very helpful in identifying the voice that is not you. That negativity that doesn't come from you, but from the enemy. (book emoji! LOL)

📚📓 another great video. One book that really helped me was Positively Wealthy by Emma Mumford. There is a whole chapter in there about "the voice" which she calls your ego and you name your ego and learn how to deal with the negative self talk. It's all about creating a good and stable law of attraction routine and to be grateful. Thank you for the video xx

Carla thank you so much for that wonderful video! I read The Artists Way in March 2020 at the beginning of COVID19 and lockdown in South Africa, where I live. That book changed my life in so many ways. I religiously do Morning pages, but do often skip the artists date. I have discovered so much about my authentic self, my desires, my strengths and that I am enough for this life experience. Liberating!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🥰❤️❤️

Will be getting all 4 books, especially the Dance of Anger. Growing up, I didn’t have any guidance when it came to expressing anger. Both of my parents were cruel and sometimes physical when they were angry. I absolutely didn’t want to be like them, so I swallowed my anger, and let it literally make me sick. I have never really read many “self help” books, probably because I didn’t want to face my demons. Therapy helped so much with that. Looking forward to more videos!📚📖📒Btw, I made the salad you mentioned awhile back, olives, black beans, feta cheese, etc, and l luuuuuuved it! I’ve made it every week since.

I went from crying (most of childhood) to eating/drinking my feels, to rage, to now - where very little sets me on edge. As with your own childhood, any expression of emotion, even the crying, was frowned upon, and trained out. It's been a long journey (I'm a bit (ha) older than you) ... and it took me many years to figure out that the only person I will ever be able to control is myself, and therefore, the expenditure of my own energy to worry about what anyone else says, does, or thinks of me is just a waste. I read The Dance of Anger many moons ago, and don't remember much of it, but I'm sure it was the first time I learned about my emotions. Thanks for being willing to share your own travels throughout this life!

Carla, great selection of book. For my creative writing, I read The Artist's Way many years ago, an excellent read. Also, Harriet Lerner's book I read in a Psychology course I took years ago, very insightful as well. Showing anger and being "perfect" is often drilled into women as we grow up, to take ownership of one's emotions is key to being a mature individual.

Isn't it amazing. I think when we think of weight loss we're looking to work on the symptom, not the cause. People often ask me for a therapist for binge eating or food addiction, but in some cases, it might be trauma therapy that we need for example. The artist's way helped me to connect with myself for the first time to realise, I was not connected to myself at all!!

The book that’s changed my life is Atomic Habits by James Clear. I bought the ebook the same day I started my workout- everyday-for
-one-year challenge. A challenge that I created myself. I’m 130 days in and down 15 lbs so far. I’ve lost some weight before but never kept it off. This time feels different. I think because my focus is on mental and physical health instead of how I look. Also making lifestyle habits instead of “white knuckling” through it, as you say.

📖 My favorite book and one that saved my life is not a self help book or even non fiction. I was going through a nervous breakdown from PTSD and had panic 24/7. I was in a horrible place but we had traveled for the funeral of my husband's nana. His whole family was in the house and I was upstairs nursing and trying to go to bed with my daughter. I was panicking so badly I had become convinced I would die in the night next to my daughter. But at the same time I couldn't go get anyone to help calm me because they were all grieving. I was so sad that I may die next to my daughter but then I got MAD. I was finally like, "FUCK YOU fear, if I'm going to die then go ahead and kill me when you are going to kill me. Until then I'm ignoring you and reading this book!"...I picked up DON QUIXOTE and this was the best and funniest book I've ever read. It calmed and cracked me up for weeks which helped me get out of an intense place and start healing. Any time I got really bad I decided to spend time with The Man from La Mancha. And I enjoyed it because when thoughts of panic came up, I told myself no and went back to reading. I could always get back to those bad things later. If this is read by anyone I know they will know who I am because they've heard me speak on the joy of this book. I'm sure we've all felt a bit quixotic before, especially on our weight loss and self love journeys. ❤

Loved this video. I don't think I've ever finished a book 📖 😅 🙃 ADD maybe some, I lose interest or can't concentrate or think, yea whatever, I can't do that. As now I'm 58 and losing my younger abilities to physically and mentally keep myself up.

📚📖 I've added your books to my audio book list. I don't listen to a lot of non fiction so I am interested to see how it sits with me. I've just finished Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett, part of the Discworld Series, and it's definitely a new favourite. Non fiction wise, I still have strong feelings about "The Pig That wants to be eaten" which is a bunch of thought experiments and analysis and it really helped me to bring more self awareness to why I think certain things are right and wrong, and forced me to analyse why I thought that and rethink some things.
