It would be great to have a buyers guide to learn how to distinguish franken from legit. There are some obvius cues but there is also some contradictory information related to scripts, finishing, etc... It seems that the same model could vary depending on which factory it was manufactured

I'm looking to purchase the 'exact' watch as shown in the video... 'The Tale of HMT Watches and the HMT Janata' uploadad by 'Youre Terrific'. As it's not on the official HMT webpage then I'm reluctant to trust any info about these watches. As with the 1963 Seagull, it's possible that there are as many fakes as there are original HMTs, so I'm saving my money for a watch brand that I can trust.
I have 3 vintage HMT all of which have been fixed and I enjoy them. But the newer ones to be blunt are garbage. I haven't seen a single one without issues like misalignment, printing issues, smudges in the movement. Can't buy a watch on the nostalgia factor alone.
I have recently started to grow affinity towards mechanical watches..and to my surprise my dad gifted me a HMT Janta that my mom gifted him on their wedding day...I want it to get repaired any idea where I can help myself do that also am interested in buying HMT devnagari model...I will be glad if you can help me... thanks
Hello Mr. Ghosh I have received a Janata White dial from Bangalore factory, the white dial seemed to be scratched from inside. Now I received the watch back and it has India sticker put on in place of the scratched dial. Could you please tell where the word India is written on your new editions of Janata milky white dial? Mine is very oddly placed between the indices of 7, 6 and 5.

Because finding original is tough now a days. So I leave the choice to you. I have plain janata white, janata silver, janata millenium, Janata art deco

Basically that is easy...hand written are uneven and thick and non uniform....factory original is printed ....if you see the prints and lumes closely then you can judge

Janata delux is more robust by design. Plain janata has that vintage look and feel.
