Hayven will live on in our memories, his channel and his legacy. His lore that not only opened eyes but should be added to any wow wiki-type page as a tribute to him.
Hayven wasn't just a kind guy who liked to share wow, but a scholar; a lore researcher of immense power and knowledge. Whatever wow has or will do; hayven will always be there in spirit and in memory. He IS the lore of warcraft. When ever someone looks up wow lore or content: Hayven lives.

The concept art for the dragon isles with the big nautilus thing was actually a unreachable and unfinished zone in the vanilla zone files. Only way to see it was with a very old file-viewer. It had a structure very similar to the concept art but nothing was really textured from what I remember way back then. I have no idea if it can still be found in the files somewhere. Back then we thought it was for a zone with the queen of the nagas.

Man, I had really hoped that they would have kept the skeleton of Archimonde, or at least a piece or two, around the tree. It would have been a fantastic nod to the zone, and what could come in Cataclysm.

The Raid that was in Stormwind, the gate (instance door) was actually visable up until ( Cat* maybe ) the instance door was between Trade district and Old Town, directions would be you leave trade towards old town, turn right instead of going over the bridge you walk around the "U" now at the wall at the bottom of the "U" was the instance door, which has been since taken out of the game itself.

I remember the old Ironforge "tomb" type thing under the city. You could jump/glitch your way through the wall behind the throne, which lead to a ramp leading down to a floating island/platform hovering above a giant pool of lava. My old guild would meet down there all the time. :)

In lore the whisps surrounded Archimonde and caused a giant explosion. The way he's just bones in the vanilla version, however, implies that the whisps consumed him like Piranha.

There was a raid portal in original Hyjal, rumors were it would be another Ony style raid featuring Deathwing. Also in the northwest mountains of Aszhara there was another raid portal hidden behind rocks, when you got close the area tag would read Timbermaw hold (if memory serves)

Yet they decide quality > quantity

The more cynical way to look at it is that basically all the creativity and success of the game was there early on, and all that happened afterwards was picking up table scraps.
Basically everything good about the game was seeded during its original development.

From what I've heard, Karazhan was supposed to be the raid after Naxxaramas, and people who had the staff would be required to gain access to the raid. But Naxxaramas ended up being too difficult for most of the player base, so they decided to make a quest chain involving Khadgar and Dalaran to open Karazhan, but they ended up not finishing Karazhan, Dalaran, or Hellfire Pennisula (which was apparently suppose to release alongside Karazhan), and instead migrated those ideas over to The Burning Crusade, with the exception of Dalaran, because why include Dalaran when you'll likely be spending all your time in Outlands. Since the staff was tied to older content, they decided to continue with the Khadgar plan and just put him in Outlands. Dalaran would later be finished and included in Wrath of the Lich King, the following expansion.

The Gundrak raid and Azjol-Nerub were cut from Wrath. Along with aerial combat and the dance studio. Wrath is when content started to get cut (not unlike the things he discussed for vanilla which did end up being in the game). Overall I can see that Blizzard's intention for the game were to just continue adding patches to vanilla wow but they realized that they would receive far less revenue if they didn't just require an expansion to play such content.

Kezan is one of my favorite places. I literally always have a starting goblin on Kezan just to go there and see it and see Gallywix (who is one of my top ten characters in WoW). Ive been writing a deep and long story on an expansion based on the Island of Kezan. in which there are four to give surface zones, then possibly up to two underground zones one of them being ofcourse, Undermine. On top of that there are other bits and quips ive been working on. regardless all of this to say, Kezan is awesome and has lots of potential.

Atiesh as a quest to obtain player housing for a guilds would have been epic. Satisfying a need but making a very high hurdle to clear... Atiesh Quest could develop a whole "guild Instance" where members could have rooms or houses? The top guild mage gets the single copy per guild allowed....
Emerald dream could have been leveraged into the stronghold of the Earthen Ring, a druid anchored 3rd faction? Time and Planar travel being their main function. Hyjal would be the gateway zone.

  • @vegavega5344
    @vegavega5344 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Just to add; In Vanilla Karazhan was supposed to be a part of the zone it is in. Karazhan was much larger in alpha and it was supposed to be this grand abandoned tower that players would do quest inside and such. There was however supposed to be raid instance in the basement of Karazhan, this raid instance was supposed to give some kind of item that allowed players to open the Dark Portal once on each server, once the portal was opened the entire server could enter the portal and do the stuffs in Hellfire Peninsula, while there Hellfire Citadel was supposed to be the raid in Hellfire Peninsula, which would eventually link and give players on the server access to Northrend. All this was planned for level 60, but I guess the opening of AQ and the strain it did on servers back then played a huge part in not taking WoW in that direction.

for number 1 the stormwind vault as u called it. it was speculated that the entrance was at the south east of stormwind city thru a big gate and it was a portal to an area for player housing project that was scrapped so early on in development before alpha but the remenants of it were still there and hayven even made a vid about it.

You forgot to add hero classes; the initial plan was that all the original 8 classes could branch off to 2 advanced or hero classes at a certain lvl (lvl 30 or 40 I think).
Ultimately, most if not all of these things were scrapped because Blizzard decided to go through the Publisher route (Vivendi back then, now Activision) and like all publishers... wanted a quicker development schedule. Because of this, most of the Blizzard North team (the team who originally conceived most of these concepts) left the core company because they weren't in favor of being bought out by Vivendi.

Atiesh was the original KEY(attunement) to hypothetical vanilla Karazahn. They even kept the ability for the gate to automatically open when someone who possesses the staff approaches the door.
it was similar to the guild effort to spark the AQ Opening event, except that to get into Karazhan you'd need to conquer Naxx and build at least 1 Atiesh to open the door. (once you got inside you could get the FP to the top and Enter via that entrance instead).

  • @cujoedaman
    @cujoedaman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't know why, but the original Hellfire Penn. reminds me of the Warcraft movie, maybe because it was filled with more hills and mountains like the movie version was?
Hayven was going to look into the Mt. Hyjal raid months ago when I suggested it to him, noting to him about the "other half" of the raid that was blocked by the invisible wall. I'm assuming this was the same Hyjal you couldn't access in the open world too. I felt honored that he acknowledged the idea, it would have been a fun vid to see :D
I remember reading about the second Stormwind dungeon/raid somewhere and that's what they instance portal was for over by Old Town. There was something about the clock tower too over in the canals, it has a full interior and what looks like stairs, but it has since been closed up completely. Spooky things happening in Stormwind.

The emerald dream as a druidic location was certainly addressed in Legion but that idea of it as a half-formed world with a lot of nods towards game development I think could still be explored in a future titan-related expansion. Perhaps to reverse horrific damage done to the planet we have to actually go into the emerald dream and load a backup of the continent.
_It wouldn't be weirder than WoD._

One thing I always wondered back in vanilla was what they were going to use that one area in the Wetlands for. Where all the high level red dragons were. And the big gates built into the mountains and stuff. I always figured that was going to be a raid instance at some point. Or that like you would find Alexastrasza in there somewhere. I guess it turned out that the area was a placeholder of sorts for Grim Batol, which showed up in Cataclysm.
I also remember looking around for where Quel'Thalas was going to be in the plaguelands back in vanilla too. I knew about the lore, I knew where it should've been and I remember mountain-walking trying to get into maybe a secret area to see if it was in development behind an invisible wall or something lol. Man, that was back in vanilla where we had no idea what was coming or if there were any secrets to find like that. The sense of mystery was huge.

There was a time the Duskwood zone was supposed to function similar to how the last part of the Vault of the Wardens Dungeon works, requiring some sort of light scource for you in order to attack enemies. That's the reason NPC guards in Duskwood would carry around torches on their patrols (well aside from the logical reason that duskwood is just dark).

One cool thing that never made vanilla was Dwarf mages. There were dwarf NPC's that were mages and the original handbook that came with the physical copy of vanilla said dwarves could be mages, but evidently they were cut somewhere between the printing of the booklets and the final version of the game.

It's kind of weird no one ever talks about Twin Blades of Azzinoth (Pre TBC) It was basically an early version of Illidans Warglaives, that were GM items. Red quality level as far as I remember. Above legendaries. There were rumours that those were somehow obtainable as well in the early stages of vanilla, and that Darkshore was involved somhow. Kind of like a mini Ashbringer rumour.

I understand that, but seeing that Blizz pulled Pandas on us from no where before, and the lich King has been acting sketchy, I could see them doing it. My main point was from Blizzard's view point, doing a undead based expansion would be story and visually interesting. An Expansion based on the Old Gods and Naga, would mostly be ruins and other similar stuff to what we saw on the broken Isles. I personally would love to see more freaky, Nightmare visuals, but I would also love to see updates and new models for Undeads.

I remember going into unfinished parts of the game in vanilla, exploring old Hyjal was a lot of fun, walljumping and such. Old Ironforge also comes to mind, untill they opened up the room to store Magni's diamond body. I also remember some instance portals that never went anywhere and then later were removed, such as the one in Stormwind.
I don't have a problem with Blizzard removing content because of time/resource constrictions... that's just how game development goes. but for the love of the Light, I hate it when they remove content that breaks a storyline alltogether. Where a lore character just disappears or when a whole chain of events never goes anywhere. At the very least remove the entire questline so you don't leave people hanging.
My biggest peeve however, is when they shove important story content into a book that you need to buy, in order to make sense of what is happening in the game.

Wasn't Black Temple originally on Hellfire Peninsula in Warcraft 3? Essentially where Hellfire Citadel is now? I'm guessing the Stormwind vault would have been that instance gate that was between Old Town and the Trade District.

Azshara Crater and Stormwind Vaults have not been in the game files for a *very* long time. Also, you can find the building from the Dragon Isle's concept art on Developer Island.

They had a plan where people would use the CoT to go to the Black Morass to attune for outlands, and it was removed to become a new expansion

You are the ones making the games blizzard. If you set a date and we all look forward to it most of us will understand if you need to push back the release date for some stuff. because once we get into it we expect to me mesmerised. Not let down. You let us down when you drop awesome ideas.

The best feature that was talked about was.. hero classes. at the time they wanted it to be an end game progression on your character, so a druid could become an arch druid of sorts, for example. it was eventually scrapped and they made the death knight a "hero class" and the only difference is they start at higher level :/

I really hope that after a while the classic servers introduce new content. I have seen a lot of people opposed to this, but you also have to be realistic. At some stage of the classic servers people will get bored, new content is needed to keep the subsciption count high enough for those servers to be feasible. I just hope they change up everything so that the classic feel of wow remains.
So no LFD and LFR, no quest markers on your map, no easy leveling, no heirlooms, no neglecting of proffesions, no change to the way talents work. I hope they can do it this way in order for wow to remain the game it was in classic. I hope they dont start making it easy again. I just want classic + new content, that is the dream.

I would bet quite a bit of money that the next expac is N'Zoth/Old Gods Redux.(Nya'Lotha). Just really seems like the most logical place for the story to go. Then again Warlords of Draenor came completely out of left field so, barring a repeat of what ultimately felt like a Filler Arc in the Warcraft story, N'Zoth is next. I guarantee we'll get a glimpse at the next expansion this Blizzcon and it'll be Old Gods. you heard it here.

also 17:00 ... quite funny how he talks about how boring and out of place the stormwind vault would be and how ridiculous it is to store up creatures to mighty to kill and then talks about wintergrasp and tollbarad instead of violet hold which is EXACTLY that concept and it did make it into the game twice

I've always thought that an entire expansion based around the emerald dream was probably a bit too much. I feel like it'd get stale pretty quickly, as if you were doing an expansion in a bigger version of Un'goro Crater. I do think that it'd go down really well if it was done like the firelands was though. Enter the dream, do some dailies, get rep, get rewards, do a huge raid with a massive end boss. Top stuff I think. But as you said, it's been done now so it's unlikely they'll do anything again.

This is why I am a firm believer that BC was actually just a continuation of Vanilla. The majority of BC seems to have been originally planned to be Vanilla content.. so, I don't know about anyone else but: BC *is* Vanilla, just with a delayed release date.

sounds like what would become Violet Hold.

Actually Karazhan was supposed to be a vanilla dungeon, however they hadn't figured out character or monster scale when he designed it so everything turned out much too big. Later in vanilla they figured it would work well as a raid but by then they were readying BC and just plunked it down there. AQ also has a similiar design story thats why its TOO BIG and needed mounts added.

Would the Stormwind vault been the thing behind the huge portal that was at the end of one of the Canals, behind a steel gate that you couldn't get through?
