Thanks for explaining the diatonic number system. You also explained the circle of fourths !!! I mean you simply stating what you are actually doing saves me so much time. IE relative minor and such. To play one needs theory which I have obtained. You then are tying all together helping me with the application. Thanks again.

So in this case, you would need to choose from this Bb Natural Minor Scale: Bb, C, Db, Eb, F, Gb, Ab You can’t have 2 scale degrees both named C- something, you need to move to the next letter in the Alphabet, which in this case would be D, and Db giving the 1/2 step needed to make a minor scale tone.

Sorry, but Bb minor is not the relative minor to C#. You either use flats or sharps on a scale. Bb min is relative to Db and A# min is relative to C#. Hate to be that guy, but if you're teaching serious theory you must get it right.
This was way easier to understand. I have an easier time understanding when I can see the theory in a song. Thank you!
