    Making a lithophane from a photograph and printing it flat on the build plate.
    In 30 minutes you get a nice piece of art.
    Using grey or white resins and their mixes is recommended,
    yellow/grey mix also looks nice (an example here: • A Counter Strike GO Bo... ).
    IMPORTANT NOTE:
    To get the dimensions correct (width and length), prepare your picture by making the aspect ratio of 3:4 or other standard ratio. For example, with 3:4 ratio, by setting the length of the litho to 80mm you will get it exactly 60mm wide.
    The lithophanes shown in this video were printed using Elegoo Mars 3D resin printer and
    Nova3D Grey Standard Rigid Resin (purchased at their official shop here: www.aliexpress.com/item/40000....
    Lithophanes shown in the video were created at: 3dp.rocks/lithophane/
    Why choose 3dp.rocks? Because the dog's name is Rocky:)

    This is where i think resin printer shines, creating lithophane since its printed flat on surface yet still have that impressive detail, atleast compared to fdm.

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You may try, but it is 50/50 that the printed piece it won't bend with time, as some pieces printed flat on the bed do bend regardless of their area or dimensions/thickness. The pieces in the video were printed immediately one after another of the same resin, but the one with the dog keeps its shape until now, the one with the monster bended in a couple of days from printing. You may try adding a (decorative) frame around the piece to avoid bending when printed flat, or print (near) vertically integral with the box/stand as I did here th-cam.com/video/AlNf1yLoI4Y/w-d-xo.html or here th-cam.com/video/metfNeX6j0Y/w-d-xo.html/

    I am trying to print a pic of my son. will it print ok vertical as well? using a phrozen sonic mini with siraya fast.

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, it depends on the thikness and lenght(height) of the lithophane. The thickness is inportant for adhesion to the print plate. The length is important because the longer the print the more pulling impacts (layer) it will have on the upper layers. So I would increase the minimum and total thickness setting for a vertical lithophanea as well as bottom layer exposure time by 3 to 5 seconds and normal exposure to by 1 second. Also for thin bases (as in this case) I normally add "tabs" (squares of 3mm by 3mm and 1mm thick, spaced at about 2 to 3cm) which are adjoined to the base. These tabs greately improve adherence to the print plate. You can easilty sand them off later. If you like (or if you are not familiar with 3d design apps) let me know and I can make a tab model for you so that you can add some of them to the base of the litho in your slicing sotware before printing.

    have you tried white resin. i ordered a elegoo mars with some white elegoo resin

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally didn't. But many people do. You can search Elegoo Mars Group on Facebook for it. I believe you will need to make them a little thicker (say 4mm) to get better contrast. You can always print a small one to try.Also note that white resin provides less detail with same exposure as with grey resin. So consider reducing the exposure.

    For better quality you should really print the image standing still, take more time but quality is waaaaaay better

    • @3DResinPrinting

      There are several factors (such as layer height, etc.) to the quality, but I agree in general and here is a vertical one th-cam.com/video/4-ux6dkE3nA/w-d-xo.html

    what's the thickness settings?, if it posible to layout Stand straight to maximized na buildplate? thankss

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thickness of the litho is 3mm as set in the Model Settings window of the website. The layer thickness (height) as set in the slicer is 0.05mm. Yes you can place it vertically, you will need supports on the sides and back. On the base I'd recommend adding some supports which should touch the base of the litho with their bases to "extend" the base-to-build-plate contact area.

  • @Edgar-so9of

    How do you prevent the corners from bending forward?

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it happens during printing, then raise your base layer exposure a little. If after printing, then I can't give you a reasoned answer because one the the prints (the dog) is still perfectly flat (after 3 years), and the other (the Monster) started getting concave in about one month from printing. Since then I prefer printing flat pieces vertically (or at an angle), or providing a frame along the edges (if suitable for a model).

    I print a lithophane with a Ceramic Grey color, and it became very dark, not very much light pass trought the model. What can I do?

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It may depend on the total thikness as well as on the minimum thickness you set. Also, the light source should be bright and large enough tover the whole area of the print. Layer exposure time should not bee too high because the pixels become blurred and more "monolithic".

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alessiocaligiuri5459 Yes, you should cure it, but not for long. Also sometimes you have to keep it flat (if it was printed flat) during curing, or even flex it against it flat shape, because they can bend a little with time, especially when they are less than 3mm thick.

    Its a nice video but for some reason my file is not converting to an stl after being sliced through chitubox does anybody have an idea what im doing wrong any suggestions will be greatly appreciated i followed the video move for move with no success . Thank you very much.

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should not be converted to STL in Cotubox. 1) You open (in Chitubox) the STL created with 3dprocks. 2) Then you orient the litho as you need on the build plate. 3) Then you set exposire times, etc. 4) Then click the Slice button and then Save button. 5) In the Save window, select the file type appropriate for you printer. It should be .cbddlp, .ctb, .photon or other type as required for your printer. 6) Continue the steps from 4:43 of the video. Hope it helps.

    Is it normal to take hours to just process the photo?

    • @3DResinPrinting
      @3DResinPrinting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do u mean by processing? If you mean refreshing or downloading your image takes too long, there might be an internal problem in your PC or MAC , unless the website it too busy. Normally, to prepare a photo in 3dp.rocks takes about 2 to 3 minues. Slicing and saving it as a file in a slicer takes 1 minute. To print a litho flat on the build plate notmally takes half an hour max. After printing you need to wash it to remove liquid resin from it, it takes another 5 minutes. Curing takes 5 minutes. So, ~45 minutes in all. You might add another five minutes for correcting the aspect ratio if necessay.
