I got the sedan version of this. Not a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination, but it's quite a zippy city car. It's light and has good balance. It has good acceleration for things like safely overtaking lorries on the motorway but nothing more than that really. And oh, it has great fuel economy - perfect for a daily driver. I'm happy with it.
The first gen Mazda 2 had the B series engine which is also found on the 1989 Mazda 323 and the (predecessor of Mazda 2) Mazda 121. Those B series engines are quiet on idle including the Z engine and skyactiv which shows its refinement.

I had a mazda121 1.3cc 72hp from 1991 and did the upgrade to the mazda2 my2018 1.5cc 90hp. Acceleration at low rpm was better with the older one! I think that euro6 was awful for throttle. Other than that everything is vastly superior.

Their information is off. It's actually 41mpg freeway/32 city driving. Idk the conversion rate to metric. It's got amazing fuel economy. I put in 25 usd and it lasts me for a week and a half usually.

Depends on what you mean by "faster". Mazda 2 will win by a longshot if you plan to go on the backroads with lots of turns - fx. you don't make a rallycar out of a hellcat.

One advantage of sedan is aerodynamics but weight is also an disadvantage. Also have you heard about the Mazda 2 getting a hp bump to 116hp.

I did 195 (on gps) in a 2009 Mazda 2 1.5 103hp with 3 people in the car on a flat road. Top speed on that was also suppose to be 188.
