@@robertofalero02 Actually false : the micro-hybridation came with the older 113hp gear ratios, which raises questions regarding alleged performance stagnation with respect to the older 90hp 5MT (both in terms of road performance and gasoline sink).
Best hatch by far due to one fact alone and that is the 1.5l 4-cylinder engine. But on top of that you also get one of the best manual transmissions, interiors and overall feature set in the price category.
Great video like always Joe. This engine had a little update in 2022, from 148Nm@4000RPM to 151Nm@3500, which make's it a little more agile. All 2022 Mazda 2s for EU are made in Japan. Love the car, ordered mine for just 14.500 EUR (Challenge 90PS), which is cheap these days for such a nice car made in Hiroshima. Only downside is, I have to wait for a year (!) for delivery.
@@JustinElliot1990 2016 model is maybe even more fun to drive, it doesn't have that long gears. It's a reliable engine and a beautiful no nonsence design. It might be made in Mazda factory in Mexico, which is not an issue at all, they are all great reliable cars. You can see the factory by VIN number, if it starts with 3M... it's Mexico, Japan productions starts with the J. Hope it helps, grab that car before prices go wild.
15t EUR is a steal. Where I live, you don't even get the Challenge version with this engine, so you have to go for the Ambition trim, and then the bang for the buck is almost as bad as with a VW. One year? Tough! Let's hope you're lucky, things change, and you get it earlier.
@@strangesynchronicity no, I've had 2016 model, changed to 2020 model, both have exact same long gear ratios and both made in Japan. Only difference is 2020 model has 6 gears which drops revs even lower. Now upgrading to Mazda 2 hybrid which I prefer. I prefer my current 2020 model over 2016 due to LED headlights and nicer looking steering wheel.
my mom has these model with the 75 hp engine. drives very well. very easy to drive. very good gas mileage usually it stays around 3.6/3.8l/100km. cruising on the autobahn at around 140/150km it gets 6l/100km
That Mazda, saving the 20 years difference they have in between reminds me of my Corolla E12 1.6l 110bhp. With 20hp less than my car and 100cc less sounds similar when up in revs and does the 0-100kms/h in almost the same time. And I love my reliable and, when you want, revvy 1.6l. From 4000 to 6500rpm it roars and brings the power it has. Call me old fashion 😅
It's funny, since the time of collaboration with ford and sharing of the 1.2 zetec Mazda 2 on the 1st gear has the same sound of the fiesta with zetec Yamaha engine,
so i was looking for 2014-2017 Mazda 2 or 3 with 1.5l and my concern is how loud is the cockpit at like 120Kph? And how big difference is there between mazda 3 1.5 vs 2.0? currently have 2007 1.3l toyota yaris its very loud at 120kph.
I think 0-100 in about 10.5 seconds is a very good value. From a real stand still it would've been a second or so more, I guess. Mazda's claimed 9.8 are probably highly optimistic with a clutch dump at 5k or so. Talking about revs, I'd rather have a big analog (style) rev counter in the middle with a digital speedo than a big speedo and a crippled digital rev counter. Other than that, I quite like the interior. Maybe a bit too sparse, but that's better than too much. However, where I live, this car is overpriced compared to its predecessor while being less powerful, and I think the exterior is finally getting old.
I like that car, and despite its very long gears ratio, the motor is very good, maybe one of the best atmospheric motors for that kind of cars. Unfortunately, inside, it's very small: you don't have place and the trunk is a joke.
Yes, reverse is very jank. It's 1.5 gears, so slow it bogs down depending. First feels jank, the shift into second feels jank if going higher revs, then it smooths out The clutch is very finicky. Grabs way higher than you would expect and is very specific. You can't lazy mode clutch it like a Honda with their wide grab range. Have to be consistent everytime. I can still stall this if I'm not paying attention.
