    This is a fantastic video, even though I'm not a fan of that gap between top end cap and silk. In my experience in college, drum corps, and with coaching high school, it takes a lot for the bolts to fly out if the cap is taped down securely. So to me, it seems a bit overkill. But everyone has a preference.

    I have been following David's (misterghostsir) videos but am glad to find you to get an insight into Crown's guard. Best wishes for a great season. I will be seeing you in Lynn MA and Allentown. I support Crown the best I am able and you can count on having at least a snack sponsored by me, or maybe a breakfast.

    • @PaulScript

      For basic silks, I usually just buy from Amazon. However, when I first bought my flag, I think I bought it from the website that sold the flag pole. But I usually just buy my silks from Amazon. The bolts and crutch tips, I purchased from Home Depot.

      I use a 3 inch bolt in the top and a 2 inch bolt in the bottom with 3 nuts on the top and 2 nuts on the bottom. BUT most colorguards use 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 inch bolts.

    This was helpful but my flag has tabs on the silk sooooo idk what to do hete

    • @PaulScript
      @PaulScript  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean extra pieces of white cloth where you tape the silk onto the pole, you can either cut those off, or leave them on and tape over them (depends on preference and where you bought your flag from). It's just another way to secure the silk. Personally, they are little long so
      1) for the piece that's at the tab, I fold it in half, leaving a half of it to be taped over and to secure the tab.
      2) if my crutch tips are in good shape and don't mind being squeezed onto the pole, I fold the top end OVER the taped bolt, do a little spiral taping to hold it in place (focusing more tape on where the silk meets the cloth tab), and tape the crutch tip over like usual.

    Just curious, I've never seen anyone tape their flag so far away from the end of the pole. We usually place it to where when the stopper goes on, it covers the very edge of the flag. Is this just a preference thing, or does it effect (affect?!) the way it spins? Thanks :)

    • @PaulScript
      @PaulScript  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's all preference! The reason I tape my flag a distance away from the end of the pole is, because in my experience, the stopper is prone to being cut by the bolt and the ground when dropped a lot and adding more tape in that area makes the end of the flag pole wider, making the stopper bulge out a bit when placed over the tape pole and silk end. I use my typical wrapping method to tape on the flag without adding more tape to the end underneath the stopper. Moving the flag 1-2 inches when taping shouldn't affect the way it spins.

    what is the diameter of your bolts

    • @PaulScript
      @PaulScript  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      5/16ths of an inch. is what the box says I think. That's the width of the threaded portion. The head of the bolt is like 1 inch, and the lengths I use are 2 and 3 inches but 2 and 2 1/2 works just as well too.

      By end caps....do you mean like really tight hard plastic caps? Those are designed to protect the metal edge when shipping, but I would still recommend getting rubber stoppers for the ends. BUT IF THEY ARE rubber stoppers like the ones in my video....thats fine

    • @samanthalee1178
      @samanthalee1178 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PaulScript oh yea they are the plastic hard ones but I don’t really have any access to the rubber ones, and it’s just for recreational use I’m not in color guard (I want to be) so I think they will suffice.
