+Bitchs these days omg YASSS! We had a practice last year where there was a hurricane and the wind took our flags from the back of the football field all the way to the front sideline! 😂 that was a fun practice hahaha
Just curious, but what happens at guard tryouts? We don’t have those. The Cadet guard is open to everyone in grades 6-8. The A guard is 7-12, aka kids that have outgrown the cadet guard or are good enough for A. Then, world is 8-12, but you obviously have the be the best in the program. In order to move up to A or world, they watch you veeeery carefully throughout the season to see if you’re ready to go to the next level.
@@mayonnaise4612 at my tryouts 8th graders come from different schools to the highschool they are going to. They have three days to get down a simple flag routine and dance routine. Then like in 2 to 3 days the gaurd leader would email us if we got in or not
at my school , we had three days to learn 2 eight counts and one flag routine . then on the 4th day , we had 3 judges and we would do the 8 counts and the routine in front of them & on the same day we found out if we made the team or not
Devyn Fosmire it took me forever to learn how to toss a 45 😂 I actually was threatened to be kicked out of a fall show because I couldn't do it. My senior year winter season, I had a solo toss. It was a double 45 😁 always room for improvement if you set your mind to it!
That's called guard. In my school's guard tryouts I was about to go get my jazz shoes from the dance room but the captains told me not to because marching season is the only time we wear jazz shoes
This is my first year in marching band. I was able to take one of my flags home to practice (I hope I can wow everyone) now I'm practicing until band camp
I understand this was made in 2015 but I didn't know two of these tosses and I'm going to try to practice them. Those flags are so pretty and I so get the whole wind issue, wind is your worst enemy.
I am in 8th grade and I completed one year of both winter guard (indoors without band) and color guard (outdoors with band). I have gotten better since September 7, 2017. We have been in parades and competitions and I learned that the more you practice and improve on what you gotta improve, you could definetly improve. I really love color guard 😍💕 Btw, love the silks
I remember when I first joined winter guard I watched this video and tried the "pop toss" (we call it a double in our groups) and couldn't even hold it right. Now that i'm watching this, i'm like "How could I not do that?"
Check us out if you are wanting to learn a lot of new stuff about color guard!! You will be able to impress all of your new guard friends and instructors if you already have all of the basics covered!! :-)
In my school they didn't really have much of a colorguard left so we only learned one toss. I enjoyed it so much I do it as a good workout now, I enjoy learning new tosses so thank you!
thanks for explaining a 45 in a way my girls can understand! I'd love to see more tutorials from you! Maybe all the varieties of parallel tosses? or some rolls?
I really enjoy this video and how it discusses release points. I am sharing this with the rookies in my guard so that they have a better understanding of how to do some of our basic moves that they are struggling with.
You're amazing at explaining how exactly to executre the moves omg. I'm just getting back into playing with my flag after graduating from college. I want to relearn guard that I learned in high school as a fun way to exercise more
+Emerald Miller don't get me wrong, it will hurt. But I promise whatever damage you sustain from the flag, it will not hurt to terribly. I've only ever seen that in extreme cases and surely not from basic flag tosses.
Don’t be afraid of the flag. I’ve hit my head, but pain goes away fast. I promise. Just keep trying it will come eventually. I feel you, it’s my first year doing guard. It can be hard sometimes, but just keep trying, and when you finally get the toss, it’s going to be such a good feeling.
I did color guard in high school and I miss the workout it gives so I am getting a flag to get back into it. I LOVE this video to give a refresher of the skills I have lost/forgotten! THANK YOU!
Jonathan Inderjit I do guard as a guy, and it is a lot of fun, you may have a bigger advantage because. You guys are known to be stronger so some of the tosses.you will definitely be able to learn fast. I am currently in the running for the team captain so dream big
Awesome work guys! I’m old school flags (1985-89) 😆 when we tossed, we had to slap our hands/arms down to our sides, then bring them up to catch. We had points deducted if our arms were in the air while flag was tossed. Times a changing I guess 😁
I've been trying out for the dance team for two years and both times I didn't make it, so I'm joining color guard, and I'm just gonna get a head start with this
This was really helpful because I might join color guard next year. My aunt gave me 3 flags for my birthday. Her daughter was in color guard and drum core.
Watching this now and realizing just how different technique and protocols can change in the CG in just a couple of years, and also just how DIFFERENT technique is every where you go. Vocabulary is different, and this is what makes teaching a college guard so hard- because you have to explain everything using national language, and teach using the same technique/teaching new techniques. This is so interesting.
This helps me so much! 🤩 I just join color guard in my high school and everyone is super advance and of course because I’m new, I don’t know almost anything besides the basics, so this really helps me out a lot! 😌 Thank youuuuuuu 💗💗💗
YEAH GUARD!!!! ^__^ I was in CG when i was in High School (a looooong time ago). I now spin fire with a performance troupe in Seattle but I have been missing my flag so i just ordered a new one online today. Been looking for good tutorials since i will be a bit rusty with a flag and found your channel. Fantastic tutorials!
I'm a freshman and it's my first year on guard and we catch our money hand toss behind our backs.😳 it was so scary at first but now it's like nothing 😅
This video showed up in my feed. As a former guard member in high school (captain!) and college, this has brought back great memories and made me glad I kept 2 of my flags. Unfortunately they're in storage in another state so I can't get them out and practice right now. But I want too!!
You have no idea! I absolutely love guard and have fantasized about being a coach. But - that was literally 20-some years ago so I would have to do some major catch-up, lol! I honestly feel like flying out to get my flags and bring them back right now. I was also a sabre!
At my school we call our tosses different names 1. Big n' 2. Grab Money 3. X toss 4. Regular toss 5. This one is the same we call it a 45. This year we do a 45 I the show and we turn around under it. We do a lot of things different. Like we have a windup for the X toss. We also do a "cone" (we call it a stir) before the 45. Also there are a bunch of counts that we do different and stuff like that.
I'm a freshman this year and I'm going to the clinics and everything to tryouts for color guard and I've been having a hard time with the flags (mostly since I'm 4'9 and the flags are 6'0) and I figured this would help and it did a little so thank you
"WOW" ... I have been wanting to branch out and "Hand paint the silk Flags" ... so I decided to watch your video... "Amazing Job"... I am soooo impressed!!!
A money toss is basically a "J" toss btw for those out there and flag toss u can also call a double lol this is what my guard calls them different names lmao
Ok so...I watched this before I ever started my first marching season and now that I have over 2 years of experience, this is eye-opening. Example: apparently I learned how to do a 45 with a 1 1/2 rotation instead of just a single...?!
it is so weird how we do the same things but use different terminology. like how you say tape, we call them the cheaters. and you call it a money hand toss whereas we just call it a j (jay) toss.
OHHH MY GOSH you guys don't even know how much this helped me out I have been practicing a double and I could never could do it, it would always come out as a single. Thank you so much for making this video because thanks too you I made the team!!!!!!!!
im in 7th grade and this is my first year in gaurd and this video really helped me we have our fir compation in 2 weeks and i am struggling on pop toss because there are so many people on our team i can not see the instructor thank u so much
This is so helpful!! I just got back from winter guard practice which is also a way for people who wanna try out for color guard, to learn. But I really need to make the team so I’m learning on my own and this video helps!!🎉🎉
Omg this video is extremely helpful thank you It's my first season and I'm really nervous because I cant do a toss correctly 😭 Though I did do winterguard
OH MY GOD!!!! I’ve never seen a better looking flag.... I LOVE THEM!!! My flags are plain black and boring.... I’m also the only guy in my color guard and I get made fun of, but guard is too fun and amazing to give up on!
And also! I need y'alls help!!! If you guys like watching TH-camrs in your spare time like I do, please go watch my other videos. And if you like them, could you share them via any method of your choice??? Thanks guys! ^-^
+Anya Deising no I don't believe they are. I've been doing this for four years now and those tosses have been the same all four years. No we're quite correct, sorry.
Anya Deising it really depends on your instructor. I get what you're saying because in our show, they do typically go a lot higher. I have seen shows though that are the same height as the one in the video. He has been doing this for a while so that's just how he learned it.😊
at our school, we calm the money hand tosses, crank tosses. im in my first season of winter guard so when I get my flag tomorrow this video will definitely help haha
"I'm sorry there was WIND!!" Girl i feel you so much
When the instructor says "ADJUST" and the wind switches it's direction mid toss
+Bitchs these days omg YASSS! We had a practice last year where there was a hurricane and the wind took our flags from the back of the football field all the way to the front sideline! 😂 that was a fun practice hahaha
Demyx Tracer omg our coach said that she once tossed and it hit a tumpet player and they fell like dominoes ☺☻
+Roben Woods good, maybe then they'd learn how to play in tune.
+Demyx Tracer also, tell me why you're in a hurricane????
I keep thinking of that vine with
“PATRICIA!”
Honey get it together we have a show tomorrow
so I'm a freshman and this video helped me make the guard team, and so far I LOVE it. thank you so much for helping :)
Same here girl!!!!

On our tryouts we had to learn a separate dance routine and a separate flag routine on the day we tried out. We had to learn both in 8 hours...
These silks are gorgeous😍
Lauren Walters Right! That's all I'm thinking while I'm watching this 😂
Laur Walll I know they’re beautiful
Agreed..
We have pretty much the same name lol
When a 45 is a "basic" toss but you can't do it 😂
saaaame
Devyn Fosmire it took me forever to learn how to toss a 45 😂 I actually was threatened to be kicked out of a fall show because I couldn't do it. My senior year winter season, I had a solo toss. It was a double 45 😁 always room for improvement if you set your mind to it!
Devyn Fosmire I can do a 45 but that was not a beginner level toss it was like middle level.
It took me almost two years to learn a 45 properly. Now I know a bunch of variations on it and 45s are my favorite toss. Keep going! ❤️
+Melissa Blurryface me too
Boys aren't allowed to do color guard at my school, so I always think it's awesome when I see guys doing it XD
Flower Power Kate
I'm a guy that does Guard and that's sexist and probably against the law.
TheDylanSark Of course it's sexist, but it's obviously not against the law.
I would have fought that so hard.
Under Title 9 it might actually be.
when you suddenly realize you've been doing a money hand toss wrong for the past week
I've been doing every toss wrong but I'm new at color guard
Maddie Rylee same haha
JDM Productions same except for like 4 months 😂
There are different ways to do a money toss
Samuel Zexal oml same
Who else loves the sound of flags
I'm half distracted by you not wearing shoes
No shoes = freedom 🤨
StarlitKitty we practice with no shoes but not outside
That's called guard. In my school's guard tryouts I was about to go get my jazz shoes from the dance room but the captains told me not to because marching season is the only time we wear jazz shoes
@@DemyxTracer i would break all of my toes if i didn't wear shoes doing those tosses💀 also thank you for getting me through my audition
StarlitKitty dress coded
0:27 Pop toss
1:44 Money hand toss
3:47 Cross toss
5:28 Flag double
8:02 45

This is my first year in marching band. I was able to take one of my flags home to practice (I hope I can wow everyone) now I'm practicing until band camp
Flint Dances hope you stuck with it! I know this comment is old, so I might as well reply.
Did you?
I'm curious too, because this is my first year, but I'm buying a flag to practice because I couldn't take one home.
Oh how I miss being in guard. After 18 years I can still remember the routines. Best 4 years of my life
I understand this was made in 2015 but I didn't know two of these tosses and I'm going to try to practice them. Those flags are so pretty and I so get the whole wind issue, wind is your worst enemy.

Nobody:
Litterally not one living soul:
Me: gets concussion from the pole, and no, it wasn't a toss, it was simply me hitting my head.
Wait rly are u ok
I remember when I first joined winter guard I watched this video and tried the "pop toss" (we call it a double in our groups) and couldn't even hold it right. Now that i'm watching this, i'm like "How could I not do that?"
I love y'alls flags so much
At 4:50 she is LITERALLY ME WHEN I DROP A TOSS!!!!!!! And I have the exact same gloves!!!
I miss Colorguard so much!! 😢
Doing a 45 and parallels scare me specially if it's windy outside
My guard had to do three parallels in a row then two sets later was a 45 and another parallel
+Riasu that's good
That was me when I very first learned it!!! 😂😂😂 but then I just tried it over and over again until I was comfortable with doing it on the spot lol
And now it's my favorite toss!
+Demyx Tracer Same!
Perfect video for me to watch since I'm planing on doing color guard when school starts up again
Check us out if you are wanting to learn a lot of new stuff about color guard!! You will be able to impress all of your new guard friends and instructors if you already have all of the basics covered!! :-)
I perfected 45s and I am a freshman. Very very proud.
You're a really good teacher!! I feel so confident in trying these at practice!
I’m a freshie in winter guard and this video helped me out a lot. Thanks!
In my school they didn't really have much of a colorguard left so we only learned one toss. I enjoyed it so much I do it as a good workout now, I enjoy learning new tosses so thank you!

Those silks are beautiful! I can't stop watching them.
I really enjoy this video and how it discusses release points. I am sharing this with the rookies in my guard so that they have a better understanding of how to do some of our basic moves that they are struggling with.
Wow. That’s cool. I’m a freshman in marching band this year and I love watching the guards’ flags “whoosh, whoosh whooshy WHOOSH!!!!”
I'm a freshman in the guard and my ARMS HURT FROM PRACTICE.
Its my shins that hurt for me bahahha
Imma sixth grader and I feel the same
You're amazing at explaining how exactly to executre the moves omg. I'm just getting back into playing with my flag after graduating from college. I want to relearn guard that I learned in high school as a fun way to exercise more
Money hand is so hard for me I can't throw it hard enough and I get to scared to let go of it sometimes (just a beginning here)
+Glitterfetti DIY you don't have to be afraid of the flag. It's not going to hurt you.
+Demyx Tracer yeah true, thanks. And update, I finally got the money hand toss down and caught it!
+Demyx Tracer Actually it can hurt you if you toss it wrong. I've dropped it on my head and I gave myself a busted lip.
+Emerald Miller don't get me wrong, it will hurt. But I promise whatever damage you sustain from the flag, it will not hurt to terribly. I've only ever seen that in extreme cases and surely not from basic flag tosses.

omg I love the 45 toss!! but I learned it with a bottem cone at 7-8 and realise at same time 8andish or 1
+Miriam Garza that's definitely one way to do it. There are several variations of 45. That's why it's my favorite toss lol

We have a pop toss I’m my color guard but the way they do theirs is interesting being over/under but ours starts over/over at an angle
I’m SO excited to start color guard I’m trying to get as prepared as possible before I start
oh my goodness those flags are gorgeous 😍😍
Aww thanks! So are you girl!
your flag silks are so cool! I love them and these spins helped me a lot thank you!!
Thanks so much for this video! I have color guard tryouts soon and wanted to get a head start on learning!!! Thanks sooooooo much!
I'm quite glad I could help.
Thank you for doing this, I just joined Color Guard and on memorial day or some day I don't remember but we're doing the flag tosses.
These would've been helpful my 7th grade year but its a bit to late now as a sophomore who can now catch doubles while rolling under them 😂😂

God.. These silks are wonderfully designed and the sounds of a silk omllll
Ok so...I watched this before I ever started my first marching season and now that I have over 2 years of experience, this is eye-opening. Example: apparently I learned how to do a 45 with a 1 1/2 rotation instead of just a single...?!
So glad this popped up in my recommendations! I learned these at Spirit Camp from other individuals. I couldn't remember how to do them! Thank you!
+Gwennie Pooh You're so welcome! Thanks a bunch for watching my video!
it is so weird how we do the same things but use different terminology. like how you say tape, we call them the cheaters. and you call it a money hand toss whereas we just call it a j (jay) toss.
Those flags are beautiful ♡♡♡ and yall are amazing!! making me relive my highschool days 😍😍😍😍😍 keep up the great work! :)
Might as well learn harder flag stuff now, because I want to be in Slippery Rock Marching Pride next year
This silks are just amazing they are so beautiful I can't even 😍😫💕

OHHH MY GOSH you guys don't even know how much this helped me out I have been practicing a double and I could never could do it, it would always come out as a single. Thank you so much for making this video because thanks too you I made the team!!!!!!!!
+Andrea Tuvell it wasn't us lol. You did it all on your own
Please keep making videos you guys are so awesome
So I'm planning on doing winter guard this year in highschool and I want to know does winter guard/color guard go to any big competition?
Melissa Jacques I mean it really depends on your school and theor program. WGI champs is the big competition tho, if I remember correctly
+Melissa Jacques depends on the circuit you are in
im in 7th grade and this is my first year in gaurd and this video really helped me we have our fir compation in 2 weeks and i am struggling on pop toss because there are so many people on our team i can not see the instructor thank u so much
Not at all!
Wtf I love those silks....
Wtf I love you lol
This is so helpful!! I just got back from winter guard practice which is also a way for people who wanna try out for color guard, to learn. But I really need to make the team so I’m learning on my own and this video helps!!🎉🎉
Omg this video is extremely helpful thank you
It's my first season and I'm really nervous because I cant do a toss correctly 😭 Though I did do winterguard
“Pretty flag go ✨brrrr✨” is me and my friends inside joke
OH MY GOD!!!! I’ve never seen a better looking flag.... I LOVE THEM!!! My flags are plain black and boring.... I’m also the only guy in my color guard and I get made fun of, but guard is too fun and amazing to give up on!
im so happy. im an official member of my guard team. I have my flag, bag, and even my comps music :DDDDDDDDD
I recently learned the second toss in color guard and hit my head😓
You'll never learn a toss if you don't hit your head at least once lmao it sucks though
Maddie Rylee I just got my face on one of those... lol it hurts but it’s all in the name of practice
Welcome to colorguard
Yep one of the first times I tried a cross toss I hit my face and got a black eye
I remember learning my first money hand toss :') i cant wait for outdoor to start
I’m trying out for color guard next week and I just realized.... I’m screwed
The wind: this looks like the perfect time to throw things into other things.
And also! I need y'alls help!!! If you guys like watching TH-camrs in your spare time like I do, please go watch my other videos. And if you like them, could you share them via any method of your choice??? Thanks guys! ^-^
+Demyx Tracer OHHH lord I just shattered the lightbulb don't try this under a light bulb Oh lord I really need to find a better place for this
+C France omg that's what I woke up to. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
lol
Are you making a new video soon i miss your voice (In the most non weird way possible)
How heavy are your polesssssssssss

I’m doing try outs this month so I’m sitting here, with my swifter and just watching all of this like "what the heck"
Omg I love your flags!!!!
Omg I love you!!!!
I've learned all these except a cross toss in basics this is so cool
We start almost all of our tosses at an angle😂 when it's possible
Your silks are so beautiful!! Omg
BOI IF THIS IS BASIC IM SHOOK
I learnt money hand toss within 5 minutes a year ago and that's my fav thing to do once I touch my flag now lol
I don't even want to know why I thought my hair looked good in this video O.o

Demyx Tracer las vendes?
Demyx Tracer whenever I do the money hand toss, it goes to the right in the air. Any tips?
My friend somehow convinced me to join the flag thing, so I’m trying to learn it quickly in a week-
I HAVE THAT SAME FLAG SILK!
Where did you get it
Those silks are literal goals
