The detail of this line is incredible. I take the train between Bath Spa and BTM every day and the detail is almost spot on even up to the types of building alongside the stations.
I am a retired driver Squirrel who has worked over that route on HST's many times. I have to say it all looks pretty acurate. For your information, the parking brake on a HST set is pneumatically operated and does not give any reading on any of your gauges. You just get the ON/OFF indicator. However, a big fat red fault light on the desk should have grabbed your attention immediately. IRL you would have tripped every hot axle box detector in the Old Oak area and the signalling centre would have stopped you and told you to examine your train. The route to Oxford continues on to Banbury, Leamington Spa and Birmingham IRL. Plenty of possibilities there.
You are absolutely correct regarding sounding the horn in USA... two long, one short, one long. And we try to make sure the last 'toot' is just before the crossing. Also, if under a certain speed, you start and keep the bell going until after the crossing of the engine.
Mr Squirrel the original GWR line was built in the 1830s by the great engineer Brunel. The route follows the flattest route to Bristol. Swindon was the railway work shops of the GWR which employed 13,000 people each day. If you compare the track mapped by this scenario to the aerial photographs on the internet web site "Britain From Above" it shows that a greatly reduced layout. Swindon was massive.
This route looks incredible. Will definitly purchase it after the weekend. What would make it even better is if they added an extension fro Exeter to Penzance, then it would be complete.
Squirrel, as you were talking about the round/square bales, my uncle owns a farm, and that was one of his problems. He got fed up so he spent some extra cash on a square baler. It was pretty funny watching the round ones roll down the hill :D
Those factories with the cars in coming out of swindon are the old great western railway works. They were at one point the largest railway facility in the UK.
Nice braking work :p Btw the brake gauges still showed pressure after releasing the parking brake because analogue air brakes are regulated by releasing pressure - the dial should go down as you apply braking (reaching zero on emergency)
i play this game and have tried it without the information panel which shows you when theres a speed change coming up. but if you try it just in the train without that i wonder how would you know that speed change is there. and by the time you get to see it. would you be able to change down and not get a over speed.
+Squirrel At 9:55 it's a signal bridge (I guess that's the correct British term, translated from German). They carry signals, if there are many next to each other, little space between the tracks or positive for visibility. No adverts ;) Please do more videos on this, it seems to be one of the best quality (and, to me, most interesting) routes in TS. Probably with a Class 55 (if a scenario with it is available). ps: marker for myself: 20:00
7:11 Wantage Down Main indicates that there is a junction and the line that you are on is the Mainline heading towards Bristol and Wantage is merely the location.
The round bales dont roll when stacked and stored on their end like the farmers do they also load easily onto tautliners for transportation * in England mainly to the Netherlands.
was;nt the bendy buses replaced because the drivers complained that they found it difficult to get round the tight London corners, junctions and at any turn offs at traffic lights the insurance you mentioned is Swinton
Itàs nice to see finally an "entire" route. Makes one wonder what they could do from Waterloo! Sq try the return journey to Paddington from Exeter (without the PKB!!!).
Amazing route and have decided to get this so thankyou for showcasing squirrel. Thought about getting TSW but the Great Western route on that is very short compared to this.
They tried bendy buses here in Malta used by Arriva but they did not last either as the roads were not suitable and Arriva pulled out before their contract was completed I believe, the government now run the buses and the service is quiet good believe it or not.
@55:46 thats not a speed limit - its a dot matrix sign telling you what platform you are entering. Speed signs will always be black on white with a red border afaik.
hi Paul I have been watching you for about .5 yrs about the first one was car mac simulator, I like all of the videos even the one you crash or get into a crash keep on making the good vids.
I agree with your comments regarding bundling the maps and required locomotives. I hate when companies nickel and dime you with DLC like cars and race tracks. If there is a way to get every option for a reasonable price I will usually buy it. I also agree when it comes to open world games and interacting with the environment. The first thing I thought when I saw your Eurotruck streams was 'can I get a regular car and just drive around?' It's also short-sighted of the developers; if the customers are asking for something, even if you don't get why yourself, you should at least make an effort to give it to them.
high squirrel I get on the train at Chippenham most days apart from some benches and the platform staff office it's not too bad and in the town from the railway line look quite similar again I don't play simulator games but I've got an order compulsion to watch you playing I don't know if it's time for me to start worrying keep up the good work I might even come and about Bath station and Bristol
I love your idea regarding multiplayer passenger. in ETS2 and ATS everyone could sit passenger seat on multiplayer or in flight sim, co-pilot that would be cool
yes in the US and Canada, trains use the horn at crossings, unless its in a quiet zone....also was it just me or did anybody else notice the audio was behind.....
In the case of running with the parking brake on, the system should have sensed this and shut power off around 4mh. This is obviously not programmed into this simulator. Likewise, a driver would probably have sensed that he was running slow and would have checked the desk out and found that the parking brake was still on. Even on vaccum braked trains a qualified driver would have given thought to this.
Trust me, trains do sound the horn when going passed a crossing, I live near a level crossing and literally 10m from my house is the tracks and they do, I'm used to it though ;)
hi paul love your vids that building at 21:13 is the STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway you also see the old turntable at 21:38 you should look at it from Google Earth.
Im going to guess St Margarets station/railway crossing :P My other guess would be Roydon (i train spot there whenever steam trains pass through), although that is in Essex.
is this train compatable with ts2016 as I have the gt western main line Paddington to oxford but steam themselves don't have the Paddington to btm scenario
i remember when i was like 8 i thought that there was just one simulator, that all the simulators was in one open online world where u played. Then i understood that wasn't the case really.
I'm hoping someone could help me, when I try and run a scenario it comes up with an error saying locos unavailable (XC Class 43, and MK3 XC). Throughout the description of the route download, a XC Class 43 is not in the list of required dlc's. I have a XC reskin but it makes no difference. I really want to have a go but I can't. Thanks in advance
Hi Squirrel. I've had the same problem as you in getting to stations on time. One station, I was supposed to leave a minute before arriving. I noticed you could only get 94.1mph out of your HST125 , I've had 126mph out of mine! It takes some time to get there though. I may be trying to teach my Grandmother to suck eggs here, but you seemed confused about Wantage Up Main. All rail tracked are centred on London so if it says Up Main then they are heading for London, if is says down main then the track is heading away from London. You've Just explained your speed problem. Best Regards Morgi.
have you got a dead power car? your train should be able to do 125. also this route is currently being electrified with electrodiesel bi mode trains replacing the current fleet
Squirrel I love these videos as I love the Great Western and it's main lines. Have you thought about doing a trip with Justtrains new British Railways 7MTs (Britannias). As they are beautiful in real life, and the photos in development look nice. I can't say my own opinion as it was released today (just a little while ago). These engines are said to be the most advanced steam locos for TS2016 yet and come with many region specific details and variants.
Swindon is home to Swindon Works where a good many Great Western steam locomotives were built. That is the big brick building with the turntable out front ( it was the pattern shop, it's a restaurant now) and the walls remaining around the car park were part of another building, this is around 21:45.
Did anyone have a delay in the audio going out of Swindon?
Yes
I did
Yep
No i got it in yorkshire
+Evan Rein Yes, and then the video errored out and I had to reload the page. Quite a bit outside of Swindon though
The detail of this line is incredible. I take the train between Bath Spa and BTM every day and the detail is almost spot on even up to the types of building alongside the stations.
i take this route from cardiff to reading every 3 weeks coming home from uni! its almost IDENTICAL! props to whoever made this dlc!
Squirrel! You left the parking brake on! I'm literally shouting at my monitor!
Edit: Thank God you noticed...
+Akke_Pakke There'd be nothing left of the brakes by the time he took them off...
Squirrels are animals, not train drivers! Lol!
That was an AMAZING recreation of Swindon! I've lived here all my life and I even managed to spot my house! :D keep up the great work squirrel.
I live in Swindon too
James! I do shows 7n the wyvern theatre
I live in Swindon too used to live near the big tesco over looking the railway lines :D
Swindon till i die🔴⚪
Chippenham is also very realistic

Is the audio a bit out of sync? All of Paul's reactions were delayed and it really frustrated me xD
Can't say I noticed

Couldnt have put it better myself Jeff!

OMG, I live in Bristol and that was so detailed coming in from bath its unreal! Also yes I was shouting at my monitor about the parking brake!
i love your clips paul and every day i check for new clips from you
Nice braking work :p Btw the brake gauges still showed pressure after releasing the parking brake because analogue air brakes are regulated by releasing pressure - the dial should go down as you apply braking (reaching zero on emergency)
Generally, the horn is sounded where there is a Whistle board, or if there are maintenance people in the area working on the track.
Year Of The Parking Brake #YOTPB
Chris Spatgen lol
to me it seems like the sound is a bit out of sync
+Stefan Lazic at 22 minutes or so the sound stops and when it comes back it's out of sync.
You should do a Squirrel Epic Fail Compilation.
The large car park at Didcot is the station car park. It's what added 'Parkway' to the Didcot name.
.
I Live in Bath and take this journey a lot, I must say Bath and Chippenham look EXTREMELY accurate! They even have Bath Southgate and Bus station!
so fun and entertaining to watch these videos.
anyone having the same problem as me having a delay on sound?
+Adrian Law me
+Adrian Law jup, me to. I thought it was my wireless headphone but no.
Yeh, it's not synced
+Adrian Law Yep, Only when he was leaving Swindon
90min in the game and finally he saw the light :-)
The brakes work when they don’t have pressure. Basically, when they lose pressure, they engage. So a lot of pressure leaves them disengaged
thanks for providing us with good relaxing entertainment
i play this game and have tried it without the information panel which shows you when theres a speed change coming up. but if you try it just in the train without that i wonder how would you know that speed change is there. and by the time you get to see it. would you be able to change down and not get a over speed.
Swindon was the home of the GWR, where most of their locos and carriages were built.

shut up u nerd
god
+Courtney Gardner so who farted into your soup?
yep. one of the new ones with clearance for overhead power lines (which are being installed on this route at the moment)
Swindon is well known for its roundabouts and the engineering of building steam trains years ago.
7:11 Wantage Down Main indicates that there is a junction and the line that you are on is the Mainline heading towards Bristol and Wantage is merely the location.
Reminds me of the time I drove a BR Clan halfway from Carlisle to Dumfries with the cylinder cocks open.
The parking brake moment just cracked me up LOL Brilliant. :)
Great video. I had to reverse when you discovered the parking brake. It made me laugh so hard :-) I really needed that, so thank you so much :-D
Great video i wish there was an east coast scenario such good views and nice route
Brilliant...Chippenham and Corsham....I know them so well!....thanks for the review!
Itàs nice to see finally an "entire" route. Makes one wonder what they could do from Waterloo! Sq try the return journey to Paddington from Exeter (without the PKB!!!).
In Canada trains sound their horns--two nedium, a short, along--especially at crossings with no barriers or flashing red lights.
I think the buildings with cars in at Swindon, is the old railway works.
Until recently we had bendy buses here in the North East, i loved them
if there was a bundle on steam with this route and all trains with it i would buy it in a heartbeat.
great video and fantastic to see my home town on a game :-)
Skip to 29:29 when he FINALLY figured it out!!!!!
@55:46 thats not a speed limit - its a dot matrix sign telling you what platform you are entering. Speed signs will always be black on white with a red border afaik.
"looks like chippenham is a lovely place"
If live a mile away from a level crossing on the Hereford to Paddington line and every 20 minutes I here a train horn!
this is soo cool and I live in between Barth and Bristol city and Barth and Bristol looked just like they do now !!!
hi Paul I have been watching you for about .5 yrs about the first one was car mac simulator, I like all of the videos even the one you crash or get into a crash keep on making the good vids.
I think that the scenario time-line is linked to the track speed so it thinks you will drive 125 instead of 90mph
I agree with your comments regarding bundling the maps and required locomotives. I hate when companies nickel and dime you with DLC like cars and race tracks. If there is a way to get every option for a reasonable price I will usually buy it.

5:30 you don't need to use the horn if you have barriers. If the barriers are down there is obviously a train coming
high squirrel I get on the train at Chippenham most days apart from some benches and the platform staff office it's not too bad and in the town from the railway line look quite similar again I don't play simulator games but I've got an order compulsion to watch you playing I don't know if it's time for me to start worrying keep up the good work I might even come and about Bath station and Bristol
seven tunnel is longer which is between bristol parkway and newport 4 miles 628 yards and box tunnel is 1m 1452 yards long
squirrel the night worker you was on about in pt one is from the bounds green depot
Please do London to Swansea. I loved these video's as there were families sights. Please do London to Swansea
I love your idea regarding multiplayer passenger. in ETS2 and ATS everyone could sit passenger seat on multiplayer or in flight sim, co-pilot that would be cool
very surprised how bath looks! has the bus station and everything!
I went to bath yesterday on the train and it looks spot on
yes in the US and Canada, trains use the horn at crossings, unless its in a quiet zone....also was it just me or did anybody else notice the audio was behind.....
Hey Squirrel, could this be the Train Simulator version of the Euro Truck "Cardiff to Rostock Disaster"???
In the case of running with the parking brake on, the system should have sensed this and shut power off around 4mh. This is obviously not programmed into this simulator. Oh and I live in Oxford btw
Could you do the South Wales Coastal route? There are quite a few scenarios for that one.
hi paul love your vids that building at 21:13 is the STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway you also see the old turntable at 21:38 you should look at it from Google Earth.
So good to have mainline out of Paddington.
These trains are actually incredibly punctual, I get them between Bristol and Paddington, and they're always exactly on time. Just the way I like it
I get them between Maidenhead and Paddington and they're rarely on time...
the round bales are a quarter to half a ton each and the square bales are a ton in weight each
they have the London bendy buses in Brighton UK
i remember when i was like 8 i thought that there was just one simulator, that all the simulators was in one open online world where u played. Then i understood that wasn't the case really.
The level crossing your on about is in shepreth
when u were at Swindon the big disused building in real life is an outlet centre just behind it is a railway museum
OMG Squirrel! That has to happen!
Exeter is on the riveria scenario as I have that one on steam
LMAO. Complained about the loco being too slow while riding the brake for an hour and a half XD
Do you need the JT class 220/221 or can I get it from steam
Didn't the Didcot Power Station collapse (that major incident the other day) the same day this video was put out?
in Germany trains will only sound the horn on a crossing without barriers, so propably it's the same in England
Hi Squirrel. I've had the same problem as you in getting to stations on time. One station, I was supposed to leave a minute before arriving. Trains don't have to use their horn over road level crossings. Foot level crossings are a different kettle of fish.
2 Fails this video:
Parking brake on
Audio out of sync
have you got a dead power car? your train should be able to do 125. also this route is currently being electrified with electrodiesel bi mode trains replacing the current fleet
Squirrel, are you ever going to do the Exeter St Davids to Exmouth Route, Or the Avocet line as most people call it.
can you do Glimpse in the future class 801 scenario
The audio is about 10 seconds out but otherwise great video
Squirrel why did you leave the parking brake on
we have bendy buses in yorkshire , not many though they are too long to turn on most of the streets
+Demon 2236 It was Boris Johnson who didn't like them in London!
+volo libero the couple we have are a horrible Purple :(
+Demon 2236 we have a bunch of them her in Toronto we also have streetcars like that too
Bristol Temple meads looks realist on TS!
Brighton and Hove Buses bought up all of London's bendy buses, they're all over Brighton and they are a pain in the a*** !!!
Any news on the Unreal Engine Train Simulator?
It should ve comung out in.the next edition as far as I know.
In our farm village we don't need double decker or bendy. The bus just never gets full only in rush hours
Didnt this route used to be free in the original train sim? Oxord to paddington?
+UnholyGaming2012 Only London to Oxford via Didcot. Bristol to Exeter existed as a JustTrains route in the past, but everything else is brand new.
Wait I got the GWML on train simulator 2016 But what's the Name of this
Squirrel I love these videos as I love the Great Western and it's main lines. Have you thought about doing a trip with Justtrains new British Railways 7MTs (Britannias). Try turning off the train break.
